I've never said any song Adam hasn't written on "Trespassing" or FYE is subpar, but going strictly by what resonates with me almost three years later from FYE (after traveling through thick, thin and hearing ever version known to man during GNT), the songs that I still love the best are "Down the Rabbit Hole," "Voodoo," "Soaked," "FYE," and "Broken Open." Of course, Soaked and FYE were not written by Adam and the others were. I have actually never really cared for "Pick You Up," (though others love it) despite it being written by Adam and Weezer (who I have tremendous respect for). I never really cared for "Aftermath" until it was performed live. I'm going purely from visceral reaction to the songs when I decide which I LOVE and what I only like on "Trespassing." I LOVE pretty much all the songs Adam wrote on AND "Underneath." I enjoy BTIKM and Naked Love, but don't feel that certain something – that je ne sais quoi – that I do get from Adam's songs. I did not think NCOE was a great song initially, but felt Adam could sing the shit out of it. He does. With the new production, I pretty much love it right now. This is not loyalty, but just expression exactly how the songs resonate with me . I like songs that are about something or that tell a story or evoke emotion or imagery. This is where I generally find NCOE not as strong as the others, but the energy and incredible vocal make up for it. I think most of us feel that way. The difference is we are talking about what is right for radio, not what song evokes strong emotions in the fans. That's where I think hard-core stans miss the purpose of a radio single. A single is not selected for the fans, it is selected for the masses. Actually I take issue with this. Most of us? Generalizations are helpful only up to a point. I like Never Close Our Eyes very much on its own merits. I'm not supporting it as some generic song for the radio-listening masses who don't know any better. Look, I absolutely expect/respect/encourage varying opinions on songs but I'm starting to be a little sensitive to the implication of some posts here that anyone who actually likes NCOE isn't as serious a fan and/or has pedestrian or unsophisticated taste in music. Really? And, to show people do react differently, for me NCOE is extremely evocative - not just a good beat. So a heartfelt thank you to everyone who is vigorously supporting NCOE for whatever reason (as I did BTIKM) but let's not assume it has no real supporters outside the Rebecca Black fan club, hmm?

Great post, mika! NCOE wasn't my choice as the next single but it's a great song and I think it will do really well! I do understand what others mean though when they say it doesn't have "the essence" of Adam. And I have only come to see & hear the "esssence of Adam" in this new album. We got a hint of it with Down the Rabbit Hole, Voo Doo, and Aftermath. But these new songs have Adam's words and ideas in a way that, for me is very identifiable as Adam. I am just floored at how "Adam" they are! I guess I just agreed with everyone, huh?! LOL! I think another thing we all agree on is that no matter what the song, Adam always makes it his own!

I am another fan who loves NCOE. I love the words as well as the beat. It reminds me of moments in my life that I just didn't want to end. This song also makes me focus on living in the present. It is easy for me to worry about what will happen tomorrow and forget to enjoy what is right in front of me. I hate to see the song get so much dissing!

The only thing I don't like about NCOE is it ends too abruptly. I love the song. It's like someone took the most optimistic part of my life, mixed it into fizzy pop and bottled it.

I love NCOE it has a flavour of Abandon, and Pleasure.
It brings visuals of dying suns, bleeding crimson and gold across the sky, and people with wind in their hair, shades on, and on motorbikes or something!

And I love the way it ends! NEVAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also love how fast it begins, no leadin instrumental. The voice immediately grabs you!
