... Thematically, Naked Love is also the triumphant turn from longing (IIHY) though introspection and misunderstanding to honesty and fulfillment. That’s a feel that continues through closing number Never Close Our Eyes (the “grasp our freedom” song) and encore Cuckoo (the “let your freak flag fly” song). Cuckoo is funk-disco with a colder feel than IIHY: the chorus drives so hard that it’ll fill the dance floor, but Lambert’s actually going “Cuckoo! Cuckoo!” is one of those schticks that either starts a dance craze or fails utterly.

Adam Lambert “Never Close Our Eyes”
“Never Close Our Eyes” was one of the most underrated crowning achievements of the year and the perfect melting pot of all the different shades of Adam Lambert’s music. It is not only a pulsing techno/club raver, but an intelligent ballad as well. Unlike other party tracks that travel into a seedy message of impending doom, this presents the point of view of an all-night partier who isn’t crying out for help, but just wants to enjoy every moment he has. There’s a subtle touch of romance in the lyrics as well, as it is not “my” eyes being referred to, but “our” eyes instead.

3. Never Close Our Eyes – Adam Lambert
Never Close Our Eyes is the second track from Adam Lambert’s second album, Trespassing. The single charted at number 17 in the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart, which is good, but not what it deserved. Things are getting better, but Adam is still hugely unappreciated in the UK and it breaks our hearts. It’s not that he doesn’t have the talent – he has one of the most uniquely talented voices you will ever hear – but for some reason his work just doesn’t reach the ears of the masses, and how can they love it if they haven’t heard it? Adam found fame as the runner-up on American Idol, and unlike the hordes of disposable X Factor stars we get in the UK, AI are known for putting real stars out there. Never Close Our Eyes is a catchy track with an awesome video, depicting a dystopian future that only Adam can fix – what is it they say about life imitating art?
