My 2 cents on the font issue. I have bifocals and have already been having trouble with my eyes getting tired reading so much on the computer. The last two days of constantly varying font types and colors have been giving me headaches. Even though I can read most of them the constant changing back and forth on the page between different fonts is making my eyes very tired. I can also imagine that for our international members who are already struggling with reading in English adding the font type changes is probably adding to the difficulty. Of course everyone is free to do as they wish but I for one will be doing a lot more scrolling to avoid eyestrain. May I also add that when I see a post with 2 or 3 quotes with different fonts from every user it's very hard to read. I am sorry to say that I scrolled a lot today , I don't even know what's been discussed. Of course everyone is free to do as they wish like rihannsupf already said, I'm just going to scroll a lot.

While I'm post-whoring I decided to look up all the ALBUM reviews which so far mention NCOE and what they say about it. This is all of them. The only one who outright disses it is Popdust (and they think Shady sounds like Maroon 5, so whatev ::) ).

4) Never Close Our Eyes: Adams vocals really shine here. He sings this in an almost Savage Garden Darrin Hayes way, weaving flawlessly between the raspy low end of the verses into the sustained higher notes on the choruses. Great tune with another huge dance style beat.

What can I say about Never Close Our Eyes that hasn’t already said? Most people have heard this song already because it was announced as the second single, and rightfully so. It has a wonderful dance beat, great lyrics and Adam’s vocals really shine through on this track. This one is definitely one of my top favorites.

Never Close Our Eyes – Funny story about this track. Well…not really. Anyway, when we heard some tracks back in January, we heard this one but we weren’t allowed to talk about it because it wasn’t finished yet. I can’t express to you how difficult this was for me, as this is one of my favorite songs on the album. To me, this is a perfect dance pop song: it’s got great lyrics, great structure, an amazing chorus and Adam’s vocals really, really shine on it. There seems to be a theme of unapologetic love on this album, and it really continues with this track and it fits quite nicely.

Highlights are "Trespassing," an infectious, no-brainer that does cheerleading pop much better than "Give Me All Your Lovin'" by Maddy, funky-silly "Cuckoo," current single "Never Close Your Eyes," and the Prince-like "Shady."

The second (and current) single “Never Close Our Eyes” is up next. This track throbs with energy and emotion. It’s by some accounts a beautiful love song but otherwise applicable to simply living life to the fullest. Penned by Bruno Mars, Adam’s voice is tender and/or powerful when and where it needs to be. Having heard the other songs on the album, I do question this now as the second single choice but it does seem to be getting great buzz thus far and hopefully will be a hit and put this album on the map. Those harmonies and that soaring note on the chorus, though. Goosebumps!

12. “Never Close Our Eyes”
“Never Close Our Eyes” has been out for a while; it’s the second Trespassing single. It’s also one of two tracks on Trespassing Adam had no credited involvement in. The other track is the other single, “Better Than I Know Myself,” and you’ve got to wonder why; when Lambert’s name slips off the credits, the quality slips as well.
Here’s who is involved in “Never Close Our Eyes.” The track was originally Bruno Mars demo, which makes a lot of sense–every other pop song’s got a carpe diem (and/or noctem) message, but who else in pop would be so literally morbid about it and write “there’s plenty of time to sleep when we die” or “none of us are promised to see tomorrow?”? (Lana Del Rey doesn’t count. Neither do the writers of “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.”) You almost wonder whether Bruno originally meant this as a slower, statelier ballad, something like “It Will Rain,” which would make a lot of sense. But that’s a moot question, because Dr. Luke and Cirkut got hold of it, and neither seems to know what to do. The prechorus, in particular, sounds like nobody could decide whether it called for a dubstep breakdown, spot of synth claps or Travie McCoy interjecting with his acoustic guitar. Adam does his best with what he’s given, growling and stressing and gospel-belting his way through lines too cliched for him. The problem’s not him, it’s the material–which is particularly baffling, considering there are at least five better singles on this thing. One of them is [the track] right after this.
popledge
Never Close Our Eyes – don’t get me wrong, this is still a good track but to me the record label have got all the single releases from Trespassing wrong. There are more exciting and progressive tracks on the album then this. However, I like the structure of this song, the way it builds up to the chorus is a testament to the skilled production on this album.
softpedia
Strangely though, “Never Close Our Eyes” makes a discordant note with the rest of the album, prompting many to say it would have been a better fit on “FYE.”
underthegun
“Never Close Our Eyes” comes from a more thoughtful place, but dresses itself in such stylised, gaudy disco beats that you’d hardly notice. Bruno Mars was involved in putting this together, and such is evident in the soulful, considered vocal line, which adds an earthy gravitas to the biting rhythms of the chorus.
yahoo
The house-music epic "Never Close Our Eyes" (co-written by two other Midas-Touched hitmakers, Bruno Mars and Dr. Luke) probably has David Guetta cancelling all future recording sessions with the proposed guest allstars for his next album, and deciding to hire Adam to sing on every track instead.
btw there were also blog reviews just about NCOE when it first came out as a single, but they aren't helpfully indexed somewhere so I didn't go hunting for them, lol. But if I remember correctly, they tended to be very positive.

The novelty of the font choices is wearing off. It is the same thing we had I ATOP 1, and it was a bit wild for a day or two. Then the fonts will just used for special posts.
ETA: Rabbit, love that post about NCOE. Thanks for compiling. Copying it to page 1 of the new thread.

I really like every track on Trespassing but there is so much variety on the album that no one track can represent it. And I have no problem at all with NCOE as the lead single.
Other great albums that transcended genre classification could not be representatives by one track either. For example, what track represents "Dark Side of the Moon"? The lead single was "Money".
What makes Trespassing different from other genre crushing albums is that it is packed with great tracks that are perfect for radio --- but they are all quite different.
And just to defend "Naked Love", it is pure pop but a really delightful song. I think it fits in just fine.
Finally, Tigerlily you make a really good point about WWFM -- as I recall it was not really a fan favorite except on AO.com where it had a lot of support before it was picked. But when it was picked a lot of non-fans liked it immediately. I hope that NCOE can do as well as WWFM.
ETA: Setting aside the single discussion, this album is amazing and I think the sum is greater than the parts. Quite unusually in 2012.

Not gonna lie, i wanna see Shady as the next single. It kicks ass. turn it up LOUD and it is just so good. Runnin is great, but not good single material, and Q3 is right about Broken English. good as it is and as much as I love middle eastern wailing Adam, the bridge would have to undergo some reconstruction before it hit radio play. I hope all the mamas here are having a great mother's day! I kid you not..watch this gif when you listen to Shady..sorry, posted it once before but I can't help myself... Get down, Charlie Brown... ;D
Hahaha.. it works!!

You did it. Great! And thanks! I was scratching my head at the "all the reviewers don't like NCOE as a single/ it's inferior" memes....
Just didn't jive with what I was reading.

I am a rock fan but I do not want Adam to end up having to move to Nashville with all the failed rock artists -- scrambling to shift to Country crossover.
The world needs to dance. And I hope RCA gives him a chance to release a dance track as a single. I think Shady or Cuckoo or Naked Love are all candidates.
ETA: I love Nashville and have tons of musician friends there, I just can't to this album and "Naked Love" is >>>> NCOE. No dis to NCOE w
I'm waaayyy behind (obviously), buy a BIG N-O to AL moving to Nashville! (unless he moves into our carriage house that is )

Reporting back from a very light Atop diet that consisted mostly of page 1 reading and a few luxury pages whenever time allowed. Let me thank the folks on this forum for putting all this wonderful information together and especially thank those who contribute to/make page 1 (Q3, rabbitrabbit and others). I read the summary daily and use the radio info posted there and enjoy the cakes and other visual delights along the way. Really appreciated, especially in such meager times, when it is not possible to spend more time on stanning. Jumping into the immediately ongoing discussion because I cannot speak to any of the others yet. Not sure how I will ever catch up...(did reading every 10th page ever work for anyone???) Here is my opinion on how I read American radio and Adam's issues with it: Any radio station's has as key customers unfortunately not its listeners. Its customer are the advertisers. And advertisers want Radio to play whatever retains/expands the core target audience, but preferably without offending anybody else in the process. The name Bruno Mars happens to be significantly less divisive than the name Adam Lambert and PDs know that, obviously. Nobody is going to protest when a BM song gets played. Who knows how many silly protests these guys are getting when they 'OMG dare' to play AL on heavy rotation. I think the radio business is not anti-Adam per se, but it's a business, they are serving their own market interests. Radio does not care about the integrity of the album and which song most sounds like Adam. They think, will my audience love it and how can I place this into the market without creating any adverse commotion. And I think they gave RCA the advice to use a BM song like this one to present Adam back into the listener's frame of reference with the idea that after he had one song on the charts he would find less resistance with a next song that comes along with only his name alone. If RCA is saying that they are still breaking Adam into the market then this is very telling, imo. They must have received much feedback of that kind, because most other ex-idols find themselves being phased out of the market after 3 years (David Cook just recently). With Adam they say they are still introducing him to the market and I think they are totally right, tbh. The amount of folks who have Adam pegged totally differently than makes sense always astounds me and I think that the media and their sensationalist and gay focused journalism is largely to blame, because Adam himself conducts and presents himself about as conservative as I or anyone could possibly expect a rock or pop star to be. And I am looking forward to the day when Adam can be freer again than he is now. It is all in the heads of people, the fear, the misconceptions, the resistance, but I think it exists. There is still a lot of work to be done and this album needs to do some talking for Adam and for that it needs to get a chance. So, NCOE will get my support and vote. Like many have mentioned, it is not a bad song, it just does not scream Adam and yes, there are better songs on the album. But they had less assurance of finding acceptance without causing controversy. The extreme conservatism here sucks, but I do think it is real and should not be underestimated. The reviews look at the whole album and each song's contribution to that album and from that standpoint, yeap the two singles do not make sense. But from a radio station perspective, at least the second single does make sense. Let's get NCOE up there in the charts and then single 3 and 4 will follow. And it also does not hurt to let people know that there are lots of great and greater songs on the album and to go buy the album. I hope that Trespassing manages to take that top album spot for week 1. I would so wish this for Adam. And with this, I'll go back to more reading and catching up....have white background, those recent font discussions don't bother me too much, as long as it does not get too wild. But for respect for others, I myself will probably use the tools sparingly. Nite all.
Thank you. I enjoyed reading your thoughts. I think the word "decency" should come up more when describing Adam. If people would just broaden their perception.
