[slogs down secret staircase carrying oil lantern and carpetbag] [grimaces at damp, slimy floor] [pulls out a camp chair and footstool] [plops into chair, places carpetbag safely on dry stool] [winces as water drips on head] [glares at ceiling, pulls a rainhat out of carpetbag, defiantly places on head] [wraps tarp around self] Whaat?! Something must have happened. The last time I was here it was delightful and comfy - must be a broken water line. I shall fix this w/my Adam-given powers, because Adam would agree the weird kids deserve a nice place too! [Waves wand that sparkles darkly. All is dry, clean and mold-free.] [taps chin thoughtfully... Ahh, a Moroccan theme-ish? Yesss] [Out of the dark swirl and gold/silver sparks pops thick tribal carpets from our peeps in Central Asia and Syria; antique egyptian lamps hang from the ceiling casting beautiful light patterns; scented candles give a spicy subtle scent from the low wooden tables, finaalllly, long low sofas of dark, dark red swirl and then plop down in a companionable pattern, along with many floor pillows of excessive size. Ah, voila~] [Oops, quick add of ~provocative wall art featuring someone familiar and a few hookahs behind the bar.] (Of course there's a bar! But also dark coffee blends and dark hot chocolate) There you go, my loves. Whenever someone wanders (or takes refuge) here, you'll be comfy to exchange any 'doubting' views or just share or debate. If necessary, I'm sure we could create a dueling corner - no virtual blood on the carpet please

Adam Lambert quoting Dr. Martin Luther King: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that."
Thoughts that are truly negative are in danger of being left here to fester, feed on each other, and grow; thoughts that are "deep" are in danger of eventually being extinguished and suffocated here in the buried dungeon of the board.
anjalee asked, how does one find this thread? I suspect it's hidden to sweep it under the carpet, and so it won't be part of the public face of the board, where (on a semi-regular basis going forward) we must put on our happy, shiny, glittery persona and speak only positively or not post (how is that not the definition of censorship and being required to fall in line and act in lockstep?).
From what I can see, Adam works to consciously choose the light side, while looking head on at the dark. It seems to me that he doesn't stuff it down or hide it away or refuse to "process" the dark, or deny its existence in the world or that it's also part of his makeup, but he has made the choice to not dwell on it or give it greater power. And he has also suggested that there is beauty in the dark side. I don't think separate but equal works, but if there must be separate threads I wish they were equally accessible, without one being exiled to the ghetto. How many people will want to come here to this section of the board to "work through" their questions or fears or doubts if they're made to feel like their "underneath" is something shameful or bad or undesirable or that they've somehow failed as the right kind of fan? And how many people will want to come here for analytical discussion when given the message that this kind of thinking is not valued on this board and is relegated to the basement that "no one is going to waste a lot of time reading."
What is the point of having this hidden thread at all if the next day people are "allowed" to have the same discussions on the main thread?
I want to be happy; Adam makes me happy. I don't want to drown in negativity. I think if given a chance a community can, for the most part, regulate itself and find its own balance by--when confronted with the dark--offering counterpoints and new perspectives, acknowledgement, a different focus, sometimes silence and space, humor, compassion, and light.

hoppers...I completely agree and it is actually nice to have a thread where one can come and have a discussion...and that doesn't get switched out every day. I like not having to scroll through pages and pages of repetitive birthday cakes [imo should be int he social thread but whatever....don't really care], rows and rows of smilies, cats wishing gelly a good sleep....etc... What I do not like is that the thread is hidden. I do not find this thread that negative, for the most part....other than participant frustration at being shunted off. I will shut up now as nothing is going to change so it is an utter waste of time....sigh...this is my break from moving. Moved in to my new apt yesterday and now have to go back and clean the old one.....do not need my blood pressure to raise any more than it naturally is! BBL Congrats on new apartment! And thanks for the Yeats love~ That's probably the only downside to the Dark Room of Love and Doom - my tendency to burst into poetry and randomness but every cool club has its annoying fixtures, oui? (And girl, I'm a fan of those lyrics from Strut - open your mouth, open it wide :D) Even if it was inadvertent, I was, as you can see, excited about the creation of a Dark Satellite of Love and hurried myself over. Yeah, that's me right there ETA: I deleted part of my original reply because it's kind of a moot issue. Meh.

Wow, mika, I LUV the new decor! The m&g room in Houston was actually decorated this way. Adam was really cute about it and said, "oooh, this is so decadent." [In deference to mszue, simply imagine a steaming cup of hot chocolate elixir here, flavored with raw brown sugar, cinnamon, nuts, and roses, served to you by your barista, Dark Adam.] Anybody remember this? April 26, 2011 - First appearance of the word #realness When in reality- I'm human and just trying to do my best. Day by day. Just like you love you Glamily. 26 Apr Adam Lambert adamlambert Adam Lambert Haha but it's sorta a damned if you, damned if you don't thing-- now some folks will think I'm an arrogant diva. Lol 26 Apr Adam Lambert adamlambert Adam Lambert @ @whimsicalspirit totally but I find myself biting my tongue in order to not rock the boat all too often. 26 Apr Adam Lambert adamlambert Adam Lambert My new mission is to keep it as real as possible at all times. Thanks for redecorating, Mika!! I think I'm going to claim one of those floor pillows as my own and rest here for a bit. For some reason, it's very calming here to me.

Do we need a grey thread as well? Seriously, not everything fits into compartments. Although mika has made this room so enticing I just want to stay.

I needed that juniemoon....ahhh good! I just swept up the old place and brought back my forgotten cat's favourite scratching rug! yikes... now I have a meeting to go to and thank goodness for that as it is a great excuse to SIT and get off my poor tired flat feet!! :-)
As I was driving back from the other apt and thinking on this banishment and the sense of difference between a 'dark' thread and a 'deep' thread and I was reminded of Kenneth Burke's definition of MAN [& woman :-(] "Man is the symbol-using (symbol-making, symbol-misusing) animal, inventor of the negative (or moralized by the negative), separated from his natural condition by instruments of his own making, goaded by the spirit of hierarchy (or moved by the sense of order), and rotten with perfection" [sic]
gotta go....bbl

Got brave and ventured over here. Must say that I'm glad there is a light thread today. I needed that. Sometimes I think negativity feeds on negativity and it gets to be too much and sours the day. I think the persistant posted negativity did that yesterday. JMHO. Interesting. Yesterday I saw NO persistent negativity at all.

I think if given a chance a community can, for the most part, regulate itself and find its own balance by--when confronted with the dark--offering counterpoints and new perspectives, acknowledgement, a different focus, sometimes silence and space, humor, compassion, and light. Misha, I speak only for me (clearly but want to emphasize) but I kinda like being 'hidden'. However, to be fair, the link both times was posted on page 1 (as you can see, and I say this with a bit of embarrassment, I pounced immediately and started playing thinking few would visit and it would likely be deleted.) As one can see, I don't equate 'dark' with bad so that informs my view. I don't know how this room could be used but maybe people w/differing views could 'get their words out' without upsetting the larger group or being labeled. It doesn't bother me at all to have the foreboding 'Go there if you WANT to be Negative and Doubting' -- but I've always been a trespasser by nature . I'm such a dork - ban it and I'll read it immediately. Reminds me of the Lemony Snicket book blurbs - 'Don't read this - nothing good happens to anyone.' And to be tactlessly blunt - being off 'Main Street' leads me to hope that even if people visit infrequently, maybe this little corner will not be as subject to steady high-squee level of main thread. (sorry - it's a personal taste issue and I'm expressing it only here in the darkness 'kay?) I don't foresee anything truly negative or festering happening. Maybe having a safe place to worry or express a concern without fear of a pile-on could be a good thing? What started out as a joke (or chastisement) may provide a haven to say something w/out worry of being labeled an angst provocateur. As for who would want to come here for analytical discussion if the perception exists among some that such discussion is not valued by the board? Well, respectfully, I would say people who really enjoy such discussions probably don't care so much about such approval, but are grateful that a space (even a cupboard under the stairs - maybe esp that) has been provided for it. Giving it a higher (more equal) profile might risk turning it into a wank post and I can't believe anyone wants that here at atop. (Now that would lead to festering IMHO.) On a purely personal note, I've felt there was less and less room at atop for someone like me and am often silent for fear of kicking off an unintended 'storm', but I regularly lurk, skim, enjoy the pics. I'd be excited about a place to mull without fear of rocking the happy boat - even if no one visits often. (great - now I'll probably be modded out of the Dark Thread of Random Whimsy <sigh> Ah, well, it's my dharma.)

Aww, Glittergma, you are our dark and glowing rose down here where beautiful things also bloom. (I haven't had a real home as an adult (nomad), but I've always wanted a Moon Garden... I wonder if we can work on an expansion plan...)Hoppers - We've added a nice massage chair too~ breaks from cat herding as needed. (oh, evil (actual evil) overlords call from above...)

I hope we get to keep the thread, mika, no matter what they call it. Mszue tried to start a realness thread a while back but maybe it was too narrowly focused. Similarly, the Adam Musings thread doesn't really work ... I posted there a few times but no one came.
This is a little broader, like stopping by your neighborhood ... hookah joint ... talking with your weird friends, and maybe playing "One for the Road" or "Underneath" on the jukebox a time or ten.
I for one get a knot in my stomach almost every time I hit "Post Reply" in the main news thread, and I would welcome a place off the main news thread and perhaps not so subject to monitoring by the thought / mood police.
ETA: A moon garden is a must.
ETA again: I like the "Dark Satellite of Love" name.

Awwwwww, Mika, that's the nicest thing anyone's said to me in such a long time. Thank you, bb! Ohhhhhh a moon garden! I'm going to do some research right now. And, LOL @ cat herding! I'm an expert at that in rl, having 5 of my own furries. (I know that wasn't meant literally, but...) I do have to say it's much mellower here than the numbers thread. Yikes!! Stuck my head in for 1 second and turned & ran right back here. It's actually shut down for clean up right now. [skips off to check out moon gardens]

My humble suggestion would be those other threads could still serve as anchor (?) points for more essay-type posts and then ref w/link as part of discussions. (Can you tell I'm avoiding overlords? As a child, I looked forward to growing up because there would be no bullies in that faraway land. Argh. )

When I was a child I thought that when I grew up I would 1) look like Mary Tyler Moore and 2) go to IIHY-style parties all the time, with amazing fun cool friends and people dancing with giant puppet heads. "argh."
