Who is handing out the libations here...I need a rusty nail!! :-)....I have been pontificating away on the dark thread and I need to chill out in this beautiful moon garden.
Lynn....I love your comparison to analyzing a book..you have a great way of explaining things. ..that is not so utterly different from my feeble attempt to differentiate between being critical and doing critical thinking/analysis. I think you should go back there and clean up my mess before I get banned to Bedlam....
Mszue, based on my own experience trying to get across pts about critical analysis (esp re:substituting opinion in the absence of sufficient and/or key data) - well, girl, let's just say I think you're a braveheart, but have a couple or three drinks and put your feet up.
Aw, jeez, poor old "Re: 5.22.2012." I can't bear to watch anymore.
Alex, I loved your post about wanting to know everything about Adam. I was reading just now and came across a description of a man and it reminded me so much of Adam: "The edges of his emotions were as sensitive as the antennae of an insect."
Were you the one who was wondering the other day what books Adam really reads? I do too. I was listening to Nirvana: watch the mystic and cryptic unfold
and thought ... with all due respect to The Hunger Games, this guy isn't ingesting a steady diet of adventure stories for 13-year-olds.
mirages, thank you for bringing over the video of Tony Bennett and kd lang. I love both of them so much and together they are magical. Years ago Bennett recorded a song called The Right to Love about interracial marriage. I don't know how to embed it but you can listen to it here:
The lyrics would also apply to gay marriage. I would love it so much if Adam could sing this song with Bennett; imagine the statement that would make. Or sing it with kd, that would be so touching.
Here is my offering for now. Someone sent me this enthrallling video earlier today. It really brought perspective into my life at work or when I was checking in with this place ... at 11 minutes, it looks long, but keep it open and watch it a minute or two at a time when you need a break from other stuff ... I think it might be even better that way.
Oh mika, junie...et al....I literally feel my bp drop a little when I enter this thread....whew. Thanks...I needed that.. I am going to put this vid you posted on, my feet up and let the rhythm wash over me...I am making assumptions that there is rhythm to wash over me now....hmmm :-)
ps I would so love to hear Rufus and kd sing some Cohen. That could be bliss....not that Rufus is much of a singer but he has intellect and soul and audacity. gotta love that....
eta again....just watched kd do birds on a wire....if I could be gay I would have such a massive crush on kd....phenomenal....I have tears
The Moon Garden...awwww...thanks, Junie, for the invite! Lookie who all are posting here! YAY! I'm a bit confused, tho. If the Moon Garden is for all posts about Adam, is there a need for the 'Dark Side'? My honest observation is that altho I am reading some posts in lurkdom, the more threads we create, the more fracturing of Atop as a whole occurs.
Nobody knows where to go anymore it seems..(you could interpret that in a number of ways, of course ;D).
Maybe it because I am reading 'The Hunger Games' trilogy right now..is this District 13? The Dark Side..the Capitol? Is Atop the Arena?
This vibe of a Moon Garden with the lull yet potency of the moon attracts me very much. Please help enlighten me because I am not complaining. I am very much confused about the intent of this thread if the 'Dark Side' also continues on.
Thanks Jamie and Junie!! Hi to everyone! Been a long time since posting last. Appreciate anyone illuminating this poor wanderer..
ETA: obviously not reading everything thoroughly. Dark side: criticism? Moon Garden: critical analysis? So, one's a bitchfest and the other a place for contemplative idea exchange? Am I getting closer? If so, might I suggest making this clear on the welcoming mat? If the two threads are desired, they should have clear and separate intents JMO..
LOVE this thread.

The light needs the night to rejuvenate, to evaluate, to process the fast paced inundation of information of the day. One needs the other to define itself. Part of me thinks it is ironic that we stan a man who believes that everyone should dance together, but for some reason the contemplative are deemed too dark to integrate with the light.
My life has been way too busy lately. (My son had a destination wedding on June 9th and my gift was sewing a quilt for the first time which I finished on June 4th! My other son just moved into his first apartment.)
But....when I started to spend more time at ATOP again, I found the news thread too....newsy! I missed the differing opinions and the thoughtfulness. It didn't feel balanced anymore. So, I ninja'd Mika. I hadn't read any posts of his for a while and I missed him. So I followed him back and started reading his last 5 posts which led me to 5/22 - the thread that forbodingly and forbiddenly asked me if I really wanted to be in the dark! I spent all day yesterday reveling in the thoughtfulness and introspection. You shared part of yourselves when you responded and I loved the relaxed pace and acceptance.
Ironically, I got excited about a thread that was moving, but I found you and I hope you don't mind if I hang out on the pillows and enjoy the garden from time to time.
Thanks to all who are here for making this a great place to be.
Alison invited me here, and I see some of my fave peeps already here, YAY!!!!!
I told Alison, I am getting ready to leave for a 1 week vacay, then will have company when I get back for another week, but I definitely want to chime in here. Will have to go back to the dark side to see how this evolved, but I like Viv's idea of "critical analysis" Adam makes me wonder about all kinds of things, so this will be a great place to explore. Thanks again, and could somebody shout out to anjalee? Think she would love it here. I will be back when I can...........
Gonna take you to the top, to the brink of what you believe
Welcome mmmgoodcracker. Your screen name makes me so happy. My dad had a red sweatshirt that said MMM MMM Good that he wore until it was just a disgraceful rag because he loved it so much. Good memories. :D
Great idea, mahailia,, I will shout out to anjalee tomorrow! And I will be seeing you soon ... yay!
Also, it has been suggested by a couple of peeps in pm's to add a little more definition to the welcome mat statement, so I will work on that a little more tomorrow and see what y'all think.

The place is indeed lovely by day, too (though still not nearly enough tassels), but I'm still stuck on the moon ...
Leaving this video to thank those of you who brought k.d. Lang back to my attention recently. Sublime voice, Adam calibre. I have her first album on cassette, A Truly Western Experience ... She hails from close to where I live now and had the courage to be a very vocal vegetarian in the heart of cattle country early in her career. Lately her activism has been about Tibet and tied to her own Buddhism ... Thanks to you, I started checking out her recent interviews and there's a lovely one in Australia recently where she talks about the reality of darkness, of suffering, but then says that that is really just the surface ... That below that is something else at the heart of reality, something very good.
This is my own experience, too, though I can get distracted by the very real angst-inducing stuff ... But if you can make yourself sit still and be quiet with it, you sort of fall through it into something that feels like love, and the heart responds with joy and wonder.
I am glad we have this moon garden to fall into. I hope anyone who wants to, comes ... I was sad to see people posting on our previous thread about not feeling deep enough because that was never the point, there was no depth test for admission and if there were I'd be dog paddling home myself. I think we all just come bearing whatever gifts are in our hands and hearts. Mine tend to be pretty geeky, and I appreciate finding a place to put them because they always kind of clunked in the main thread, and for good reason, probably.
Anyway ... Change is always unsettling, so I hope the Moonglow is soothing while we wait for the dust to settle. All the goodness is still here, all over this forum and in that force of nature named Adam who called us together out of the world and sends us back into it, too, better. Let's abide a bit and have patience with one another.
Thanks Mirages for bringing over this sublime rendition of Moonglow with Tony Bennet and kd lang (two of my all-time favorites).
In relating to Adam, Tony Bennett has had an up and down career nearly losing out during the heady days of the rock n roll era when he was not considered cool any more. But he has come back on his own terms, and in my mind there is no one more cool than Tony Bennett - love his recent collaborations. Now there's a guy who has shown longivity and perservance by staying true to himself in spite of the odds in the fickle world of public taste and the music industry.
And kd lange - She and Adam are with the same management company. I do so hope that at some time there will be a collaboration with these two major talents. Both have such clear singing voices, and I think they could blend well.
Final note of the day in this Moon Journal - my avi - I picked a luna moth as my avi because I am a nature lover and wanted some kind of tie-in with Adam, and I remember seeing a video and pictures of Adam at the Ste Agathe concert in Quebec last summer (July 2010) when this exquisite ephemeral little creature floated up to Adam's shoulder for a brief second.
The problem with you guys is that there are so many posts I want to play around with and add my 2 cents to that I end up responding to nothing LOL, even at this slow pace it's too fast for me.
From the start... Glittergma I love the story about your parents' song and your love of the moon. The only tattoo I ever considered was i little full blue moon but I chickened out. I always felt like it was the holder of secrets.
Then mirages always gets me thinking....kd lang her voice
And the list goes on. So good to see everyone!
I feel a little silly being thanked and asked what my intentions are for this thread. I'm sort of an accidental thread starter who didn't really think things through. I just wanted a place for the people who used to post on the dark thread until people actually started needing it for it's original intention. I was just testing it out and threw in a moon picture and Junie was on it LOL, thank you Junie for bringing all these beautiful people here . I think the concern about fracturing the community is valid and I really didn't expect it to be noticed on such a large scale or at all. If it doesn't feel right please don't feel bad if it ends up being not a good idea or fades away to a post every once in a blue moon.
I went back to the start of that thread to get an idea of how it became what it did and it was Mika who started if off as a sort of dark-side flipped on it's head but many of those first posts are gone now (including the one with Yeats and the Adam as shaman picture :-[) so it might not make sense now for those that didn't find it in the beginning. I do miss the illicit feeling of the somewhat forbidden, largely unnoticed vibe it had. Unlike Adam I was a kid who liked to literally trespass, sneak out and generally get away with doing things I shouldn't....but with a smile ;D So I'm not big on rules and if I'm supposed to set any guidelines or tone for the place, I'm going to make Mika angry and say that he's really the spiritual starter of this thread along with everyone else who jumped in and joins the fun/deep/not deep/sad/happy/safe/frustrated/cozy/laide-back thing it became and abdicate any of those unwritten responsibilities to him Sorry mika :-/ I'm a bad and lazy thread starter.
I'm mainly a lurker and as much as I love reading what you all write, my ability to respond is sporadic. But I'll be here in spirit as long as it's here and jump in when I can.
Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
What a beautiful place this is. Hello everyone. I blame mika, the shaman image inspired this response.
I was wondering if people here would be interested in looking at our reactions to Adam from the perspective of "energy", because we often talk about him in exactly those terms. I found this article in 2009, it is an auric reading. I'm not so much interested in a discussion of the merits or otherwise of that particular way of seeing someone, but of the content itself.
Aura Reading at the Throat Chakra: Singing Charisma Adam has a fascinating gift. He’s a boundary smasher and a transformer. He especially helps people to connect to sexuality in a particular way: overcoming shame about sex.
The overall message transmitted through his throat chakra could be summarized this way:
Maybe you approve of my sexuality, maybe you don’t. Maybe you need to judge me. I no longer need to judge myself. The way I am is something I accept now. I can give love, and value the love that I give. I can receive love, because I now feel that I am worthy. And don’t even think about taking away my power, due to your judgments, because I claim my personal power. Nobody is going to take it away. If you try, I’ll fight you, and I’ll win.
If anyone in the audience has conscious or subconscious issues about sex being bad, Adam brings healing power. In his own personal history (of which I know nothing, at this point), it appears that aspect of life has been a major theme for his personal learning.
Obviously, Adam has suffered from feeling “dirty” and sexually shamed. His aura also reveals how Adam has used courage and honesty to overcome this, along with other magnificent gifts that will show in the chakra readings to come.
Aura Reading at the Root Chakra: Stage Presence Performing is very, very personal for Adam. He’s projecting his personality loud and clear, through every note. He’s almost daring the audience:
Decide if you like me or not. If you don’t, f___ you!
Aura Reading at the Solar Plexus Chakra: Handling Conflict Adam is a contrarian, a disruptor, living on the Ray of Shiva like Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart. Probably Adam has been causing chaos his whole life, making people uncomfortable on purpose — just to see what will happen next. Conflict doesn’t scare him. In fact, it makes him feel more alive.
And since most people cringe at conflict, Adam’s fearlessness gives him a decided advantage. With his long history as a disruptor in this lifetime, Adam plays with how people react to him. Being popular doesn’t matter to him as much as being noticed.
Expect him to sing and act outrageously, doing everything he can to move your energy as a listener.
Aura Reading at the Belly Chakra: Sex Appeal The boy has talent. When he sings, a huge blast of sexual energy pours through him, and Adam has learned to be pretty comfortable with letting this happen. It’s a wake-up call to be more alive, not only about sex at all.
Life on earth for us humans can be fueled by two different types of energy, spiritual oomph that comes in through the crown chakra and earthly, animal oomph, a.k.a. sexual energy. That enters through the root chakra.
Because of Adam’s fearlessness, this earth-based energy moves through him during a song, energy ample as an ocean wave, energy swelling to fill the auditorium, energy overflowing into the people watching at home through their screens.
PERFORMANCE POWER During Britney’s Spear’s greatest fame, I read a quote from the actor Jack Nicholson. The gist was that he was convinced that sex with Britney would be so powerful as to bring on a “life changing experience.”
Jack is famously enthusiastic about his pleasures, and this might well be true for him. As a simple Aura Reading observer of celebrities, I never felt that Britney’s energetic performance matched her provocative moves. With all respect to her drive and hard work, Britney reminded me more of a well-trained seal, a performer with the coordination and practice to make certain moves as required. These moves would set off certain responses in the viewer or listener.
With Britney, as with many performers, including the winning contestant, Kris Allen, success doesn’t involve energy at all. The performer succeeds with the technical part, doing every calculated bit of stage business, setting off viewer responses.
Sometimes a viewer will find this kind of performance extremely satisfying. The viewer is free to project any kind of energy experience or relationship with the performer. The viewer doesn’t have to change much, accept much. Instead, certain responses are being manipulated and the rest of the sequence is open.
Think of the High School Musical style of movie. It’s entertainment with a slick surface and not much within, leaving the viewer maximum power to project the desired emotional and energetic and sexual content. Or not.
Adam is a different kind of performer, more like James Brown or Elvis, where energy pours through him into the audience. Or, for that matter, the fascinating James Taylor. For such a singer, vocal technique (however marvellous) is quite secondary. Audience members will receive a strong experience, at a particular frequency. They WILL be changed.
If they resist, they will find the performer extremely annoying. Such a performer is not a blank screen for projecting a viewer’s unmet needs. In Adam’s case, the quality of sexual energy that he especially processes is pure — and totally unapologetic – ”bad boy.”
After Hearing Him Sing Sexual orientation isn’t something I like reading from auras, because male-female and gay-straight are continuums of energy, quite separate from a person’s self-aware sexual identity. So I’m not commenting here about either singer’s sexual orientation but about a difference of vibe.
Will Adam’s very guy-oriented, energetic flow through singing wake you up or make you squirm? It really depends on whether your aura is in the mood for a sexual-wakeup call from a bad boy.
annala -- I love your avi, I love your perspective about Tony Bennett, I love your birthday post, and I love YOU. Welcome!
jamie -- own it, girl. Adam refuses to apologize for his own existence, why should we? As with Trespassing, who knows whether this thread will succeed, or be allowed to succeed, but we deserve to try.
I am grateful that you started the thread. I was really at the end of my rope before I saw it. And this thread did not fracture the community; it merely reflects that fracturing, which is a problem running through our entire society, far beyond the scope or ability of anyone at Adamtopia to solve.
I suspect that many of the people drawn to this thread are loners ... not comfortable in being a leader, and even more repulsed at the idea of being a follower. I am drawn here because there are so many interesting people, people from different countries, different life situations, different viewpoints. It seems like more than just fan flailing, it can at its best seem like an awakening.
It doesn't seem like too much to ask to have a place for sharing ideas that does not suck away all our energy.
nikki, that aural reading you posted about Adam was fascinating. I personally believe that insight is insight ... whether you call it aura, psychology, soul, or some other term. That contents of that reading are incredible, even more so that it was done before Glam Nation where the qualities described were manifested even more clearly than on Idol.
This really jumped out at me:
Such a performer is not a blank screen for projecting a viewer’s unmet needs.
Is this a huge part of what we have been trying to put our finger on for days as we grapple with the resistance to Trespassing? That the Powers That Be of US entertainment are looking for performers who can be that blank slate (Britney, as the reading suggests, being a good example). That try as he might with a toned-down image and a blank slate single -- Adam cannot ever be that?
