To be honest, I don't think Shoshanna even knows the extent of it. FWIW, and this is just conjecture (I haven't followed her closely at all), but I get the impression that Shoshanna has barely a clue what the gifting movement has actually involved. I think this explains her pushing the other, lower-ranked itunes version of the single. As far as she's concerned (again, just guessing here) I think she thinks she's been pushing as many glambrits as she can to buy as many versions of the single as they can. I don't think she understands that this is now a global effort, and that people are being gifted and deleting the higher-ranked single over and over again. If you can buy the higher-ranked single over and over again, no reason to focus on the lower one. But if you think there's a one-and-done limit to single-purchasing, it makes a lot of sense to push the lower one too. I get the impression that Shoshanna thinks the effort is limited to two (or three, including amazon) purchases per glambert. Little does she know... All of which is just to say, if even Shoshanna, who follows Adam-fans pretty closely on twitter, doesn't know what the gifting movement entails, I wouldn't worry too much about its tainting Adam's public credibility. That having been said: I think you're all nuts, and the whole gift-and-delete thing is amazing and OTT and nuts, and major respect for doing it, don't get me wrong, but Adam is a lucky biyatch to have inspired such devotion! ;D ;D ;D  ps--HOW EXCITED AM I FOR HAMMERSMITH SURPRISES?!? So, did we decide that you had to delete previous gifts of NCOE to redeem more? I've tried to delete and although I see the delete option it is shadowed out as not an option.

The way I view the gifting campaign is as a strategy to achieve a goal. As we've seen here in the US, if the public cannot hear it, then they cannot like, buy and request it. The strategy in the UK is apparently to get the song high enough on the charts that the station(s) will play it and thereby catch the attention of the public. Hopefully, the public will then hear, like, request and buy it and it will take on a life of its own. The strategy may work or it may not, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I liken it to in my business, I get offers from many venues/artists to come to free concerts/shows, spend free weekends at hotels, get free spa treatments (Paraffin wax hand treatments are the BEST, btw). The goal of these promotions -- free to me, but not to them -- is to get me to sample their services, like them, and then send business their way either by booking with them myself or by telling others about them. I've been at hotels where most of the guests on a weekend were industry people getting free sleeping rooms and meals or at concerts that were strictly for booking agents, etc. No one views the venue/artist negatively for promoting themselves -- it's a fact of business life because we all know that promotion is essential. And truthfullly, I've ended up doing a lot of bookings with venues/artists as a result of those promotions because the freebie enticed me to sample something I would not have ordinarily noticed. It's good strategy.
In both cases, I view it as a promotional cost. Someone has to pay for it. In the case of an artist's street teams, the cost is willingly borne by the fans. And the street teams are common in fandoms for all sorts of artists. (I know... I deal with them often.) If someone in the industry says they look down on Adam for having a street team willing to bear the cost of this sort of promotion, they're using that as an excuse to be negative about him.

I tried to buy from HMVdigital and they said I could not since I was outside the country but I am here in The UK. Any ideas?
