They already have a "deep bench" filled with legends from over 40 years ago to very relevant and popular newcomers right now. I never thought AL would be singing with Queen at the Olympics. Even if he had exploded worldwide, had a number one album worldwide, was embraced by UK as a compatriot, had global buzz, it wasn't going to happen--ever. Even if someone as huge as Gaga (who is taking a respite to avoid overexposure, thank god, but I really like her), or Katy Perry were announced to sing with Queen, there would be great derision. Seriously, there is the third British Invasion for music going on right now. There is no reason to put an American in there, much less one not well known and from an American tv show. This is not to take anything away from AL. He is doing great, gaining cred and respect, making great strides with social progressiveness and acceptance, doing his own thing. Baby steps, ppl. :D |
