Adam-Queen London #3 Concert | Recaps Here is a link to the Atop Party at LaLa Brasserie on 10 July 2012. I am new to photobucket and some pictures are duplicates because while loading the first time, I inadvertently logged off their site and when I re-uploaded, some pictures were duplicated. Could not figure how to delete so please ignore the duplicates.
I am also not a very good photographer (DH is better but he did not feel like sneaking up and taking pics of peeps).
Anyway, I hope you get a sense of the great time we had. Again, special thanks to all who put a lot of work (and personal funds) to make this party happen.
Atop ROCKS!!!!
s1154.photobucket.com/albums/p532/mayumi257/ Well, I'm finally back home after the adventure of a lifetime. It will take me a long time to process everything... right now I feel like I'm still walking around in a daze that's only partly attributable to jet lag
I want to thank all the wonderful, beautiful people from Atop who are part of the fabulous memories from London. So many lovely people, and as always, there is never enough time as you'd like just to hang out and chat.
I tried to put my thoughts into words during my 10+ hour flight yesterday and I did no justice to the feelings I have about these concerts. But I'm just going to post anyway (and sorry in advance for being so long-winded)
I have no idea how successfully I can recap these concerts without resorting to keysmashing, but I'll give it a try. What I have is mostly a swirl of images and emotions. A jaw-dropping light show, not to mention fireworks, fog, and actual flames that were anything BUT subtle flickers. The joyful light in Adam's eyes as he watched the crowds transition from curious anticipation to engagement to flailing elation. Watching the solemn-faced Queen fan next to me on Night 2 go from quiet watchfulness to surprised pleasure. I'll never forget his awestruck "wow" at a glory note in Who Wants To Live Forever and how he leapt to his feet for a standing ovation even before I did. The palpable love between Adam and Roger and Brian, and how much respect they showed each other and how much fun they had together. The tears in Roger's eyes when he looked over his shoulder at Freddie's image. The hush in the crowd at the end of Who Wants To Live Forever as Adam walks slowly away and Brian's last note fades. Adam twirling like a top, and showing us the rip in his pants, and telling us to "sing this shit" and "shake our asses" and smiling smiling smiling his happines. So many beautiful moments!
For the first show I was in GA, about 5-6 rows back on the left/center—an excellent spot. I remember feeling both wildly excited and also terribly nervous. The latter because I'd been reading tweets about the press that would be there, and also, having stood in line for hours and in the pit for a while longer, I had realized that I wasn't in Kansas anymore and many of those around me were not glamberts but rather long-time Queen fans. I was nervous for how they'd receive Adam and nervous on his behalf and just generally freaking out. Turns out I needn't have worried. Adam managed to do the impossible—he pleased just about everyone who was there by singing the hell out of Queen's amazing songs and just being his own fabulous self. He was the dragon, attacking and breathing life and fire into lyrics that are at their best when heard live, surrounded by people singing along.
I was surprised at how much I loved the non-Adam parts as well. I cried like a damn fool during Days Of Our Lives. I cried at Love Of My Life. Hell, I even cried watching Roger and Rufus beat out their drum duet/duel. The media critics can fuck off when they diss Roger and Brian. These guys are amazing musicians and maybe their voices aren't what they were decades ago but they sang their hearts out and it was obvious how much they loved sharing their music again.
The 2nd night I was in the balcony, front row a bit off-center. What I lost in immediacy and intensity I gained in big-picture perspective. I saw the light show in all its over-the-top glory, and watched the GA crowd clap and fist-pump in joyful unison, and the seated passive balcony audience ultimately come to their feet and sing and flail in true glambert style.
It was immediately obvious that the energy was on a totally different level on Thursday. Adam was looser, lighter, wilder. Who knows—maybe he'd been a bit nervous the first night as well, and then he'd seen the crowd's acceptance and the press's praise and a weight came off. The pants almost came off as well, but hey, what's a little wardrobe malfunction when you're having fun? And that for me was the essence of Thursday—fun!!!
Saturday I was back in GA, in an excellent spot Gelly had discovered—about 1/3 of the way back at a rail. Great views due to the floor being more sloped and close enough to see all the details while still getting a sense of the whole stage. Thanks, Gelly! It was hard not to feel just a tiny bit of anticipatory sadness, knowing this was the last show. I wanted to remember every moment and every detail. And it all seemed to come together that night. Adam, Brian, and Roger were in sync and as comfortable together as though they'd been a group for years. Adam seemed to know that he was going to win over the audience just as he had the first two nights, and Roger and Brian knew that their fans in the crowd would love what they had to offer. There was a relaxed feeling from all of them, kind of a sense of accomplishment, and even before Adam said "for now" I knew, watching them, that they were not going to let it end after this performance. Of course, Adam had to set himself a new challenge, so he sent his voice out to orbit around notes in his distant home galaxy. It took a while for people to start moving after it was over, as if reluctant to leave the scene of such magic.
Before the Queen concerts, Adam talked about the balance he'd have to find in doing this-- not doing an imitation of Freddie but making the songs his own while still honoring and keeping them true. It speaks to the brilliance of the songs that they sound so relevant today, and I think B&R and Adam did a fantastic job choosing a setlist that was well-paced and that included so many songs that seemed to suit Adam perfectly in terms of style, vocals, and attitude. Adam accomplished that balance and then some, to a degree I think no one expected. His interpretations were so authentic to himself, while at the same time honoring the integrity of the original. Absolutely amazing...
Anyway, I'm so happy that Roger and Brian decided to try this little "experiment" that allowed so many of us to have some of the best concert experiences ever. They took a big chance in putting these shows together, knowing that many would criticize their choice in frontman. Knowing a bit of their history, seems to me that Brian and Roger have been making up their own rules for quite some time. With Adam, I think they found a perfect companion for some new adventures in trespassing
Dear NoAngel, our resident elf who is just as pretty and elvish in real life even without the green hair.
It was so awesome to fianlly meet you in person, and it was even more awesome to share the epicness and total FUN that was London Hammersmith. Both jellus and estatic that you got to see all three shows, and happy that you're safely back to recap everything in your typical awesome manner.
I have been wanting to write about the London experience but a bit like Gelly I seem to be more in a daze about the whole experience. And the writings...such as yours noangel and others who have taken the time to sort through the wonderfulness of the experience....encompasses my thoughts. So... I just pause and reflect.
Connecting with Atopers did not go as planned. I missed so many I wished to meet. I was searching for those that had made me feel apart of the board by responding to some of my musings on the thread, and was sorry that when I inquired a few had left earlier than me. I appreciated those who took the initiaive to approach and talk to me. The length of conversations had no rhyme or reason...just flowed. With some it was just a few quick words to express my appreciation for their work on the board...as per noangel, Q3, and with others, we had a grand time chatting. Also I missed meeting so many of you.. maybe due to a bit of shyness to intrude on already bustling conversations, and of course the lateness of the night for many.
Hopefully as my future with Adam progresses I will find opportunites to travel again, and experience "the fandom". And of course the music!
A highlight, was having a wonderful/interesting conversation with Lyndsey Parker at Harrod's over tea. She was by herself, and sat next to me on the green velvet circular seat. ileanne and I gave her every opportunity to enjoy her tea in peace, but she was very chatty. Also having the Lambert/ Sauli contingent and Bob Geldorf group right behind us, has given me many solid pictures for my memory bank.
Oh the treasures in my mind!
Angelina asked me to post this letter on ATop. She is such a sweetie, and it cracks me up that, like several of you have mentioned, she is suffering from post partum (lack of Adam after such a feast).
Dear Adamtopians,
I cannot believe an entire week has gone by since I met you guys in London! And what a week, right?
Thank you all most sincerely for inviting me to your fab party, for your warm welcome, for your generosity, for a wonderful evening - great food, perfect music, and excellent company. Thank you also for the gorgeous flowers - they're in vases all over my living room and each time I see them I'm reminded of a splendid night and an unforgettable week.
It was great to meet so many of you face-to-face, and it felt as though I've known you all my life. I'm just blown away by the idea that if it wasn't for a certain Mr Lambert, I would never have met any of you - the Glamily, indeed! And how wonderful to be able to put faces to online/twitter names and to meet the people behind the amazing support for Adam.
The Queen + Adam shows were made even more special for me when each night I'd bump into some of you at the venue, and I'm so grateful that I was able to share these magical, once-in-a-lifetime shows with such wonderful people.
I was extremely fortunate to stand right by the stage on the 11th and again on the 14th and to be that close to Adam was almost like a religious experience - his power so tremendous, his physical beauty so breathtaking, his voice so exquisite. I wanted to climb inside his skin to experience just once what it must feel like for him to do what he does! :-)
Now it's back to reality and it's disconcerting indeed to feel the big empty space left by Adam - London seems greyer and somehow lacklustre without his presence here, but the memory of these shows continue to sparkle and inspire. Can't wait for his return!
Until we meet again...! :-) Angelina xx
PS LOVED your recap, NoAngel!

AAAMusic Queen + Adam Lambert @ Hammersmith Apollo By aaamusic on Jul 18, 2012 in Live www.aaamusic.co.uk/2012/07/18/queen-adam-lambert-hammersmith-apollo/
London, Wednesday 11th, Thursday 12th, Saturday 14th London is burned to the ground in a Flash by the royal family Queen with their American Buddy! Queen have a new guest vocalist in Adam Lambert after the disastrous few years with Paul Rogers, a singer who is great with his blues stuff, in bands like Free and Bad Company but just doesn’t fit the vocal range and style of the Majesties of rock Queen. Adam Lambert is a much younger singer who made his name from coming second in American Idol a number of years ago. Adam has gone a long way from his reality TV show days with his new album reaching number one on the American chart. ‘Trespassing’ which is full of pop gems and really shows of the talent of this young man who can hit many a fantastic note.
The show starts off with the Queen coat of arms on a massive banner at the front of the stage and the flash intro playing to start of this rock extravaganza. The first song ‘Seven seas of Rhye’ hits you like a punch in the face and you realise that this band have got their impact back. Queen are performing three times in the same week and each day see’s the same set with a few songs altered here and there like on the first two nights swapping round ‘The show must go on’ and ‘Somebody to Love’ and on the Saturday playing both. It’s a shame that the first night don’t get to here Adam sing ‘The show must go On’ which is one of the best numbers he sings with Queen, he really has made it his own and like the amazing ‘Who wants to live Forever’ it really fits his operatic vocals. It is nice to see the chemistry between Queen and Adam Lambert they really show that they have real respect for each other and that there is a bond between them that they have let him into the ranks to not replace Freddie but to sing his songs in the way he would have wanted them sung. So when it comes to a duet between Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert you feel the strong connection.
Roger Taylor later sings a couple of songs on his own ‘A kind of Magic’ and ‘These are the days of our Lives’ which is really nice to see cause Roger sang at least one of the songs on each album. This leads on to a heartfelt acoustic segment with Brian May where he plays a different song each night and then does the most amazing version of ‘Love of my Life’ I have ever heard where he is joined by Freddie at the end who is projected on the big screen behind it is like he is actually in the room and is a really moving moment especially when you can see a tear in Brian May’s eye and see how much the guitarist still misses his friend. Brian is joined by Roger on stage and they play a version of ‘39’ acoustic before they are joined back on stage by Adam who seems to have murdered Elmo backstage and turned him into a coat. They burst into ‘Dragon Attack’ which is one of the best songs to suit Adam’s voice and he jiggers around doing erotic dance moves which looks fantastic. On the Thursday night during the next song ‘I want to break Free’ Adam really breaks free splitting his trousers in a place you would not want to split them, but in true Queen fashion the show must go on and they continue for the next few songs which include a version of ‘Radio Ga, Ga’ which must have looked amazing from the balcony cause everyone claps their hands in time. This is a true rock show in every sense and probably the best show in town and when they hit into one of the best songs ever written ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ which virtual Freddie sings as well, and consists flames and amazing visuals you realise Queen with Adam will probably be the closest you get to seeing a full Queen show again. It’s an explosive climax with ‘We will rock You’ and ‘We are the Champions’ and you realise this is one of the best gigs of your life. As a lifelong Queen fan I know they certainly did rock me.

Hi-de-hi, LTRFTW and all that.
So I was at the Thursday gig. Lambert converted me and I was one of the many unconvinced Queen nerds out there. So anyway on Saturday I was with a friend of mine near Hyde Park when...LO AND BEHOLD! Adam walks on by with a group of other people.
I wandered over to talk to him, mentioned how he converted me and how he did a good job on Thursday yadayadayah. So I said "anyway if you decide to do an album just don't make it suck as bad as the Paul Rodgers one", to which he VERY quickly replied that there was no way he was gonna do an album. "Yeah it definitely not gonna happen". With that I said how that was a good idea (cos to be fair there was not even a smidge of anything good on the Cosmos Rocks album) and that he should focus on his own career. With that we parted ways. Nice fellow too.
Oh, one more thing. I asked about more gigs and he said that's it for now.
Now you know.

MetalTalk MARK TAYLOR'S BIG CITY NIGHTS QUEEN WITH ADAM LAMBERT: HAMMERSMITH ODEON, LONDON 13.8.12 [13 August 2012] metaltalk.net/columns/20101797.php
It's been over 21 years since the king of rock passed away. It's also been 26 years since Freddie Mercury performed his last ever live show with Queen at Knebworth Park in 1986, a show that I was fortunate enough to attend and a fabulous performance that I still regard as the best festival show I've ever witnessed and can remember it just like it was just yesterday.
In the past two decades there has not been one singer who can come anywhere near the magic of Freddie Mercury. He was the greatest, who with Queen could sing at ease Heavy Metal, progressive pomp rock, funk, disco, pop and even classical. Mott The Hoople singer Ian Hunter summed up the genius of Mercury perfectly in the programme notes of the Freddie Mercury Tribute programme from 1992 in which he states: "It's taken all these singers here today to sing the songs of Queen, but it only took one Freddie Mercury."
The spirit of Freddie Mercury still looms large to those who knew him on a personal level or to the millions of fans who knew Freddie through the songs he wrote or by those written by his band mates which were interpreted to perfection where you really felt that Mercury was singing to you personally. I've only ever cried over the death of a rock star twice in my life. I cried my eyes out the day that Freddie died.
No one can blame Brian May and Roger Taylor for wanting to get on stage and play these magical songs again. Equally no one can blame bassist John Deacon for deciding to totally quit from the music business and spend a quiet life with his family. Both Taylor and May have both made solo albums and done tours to support them. May and Taylor decided to continue with the Queen name and surprised many when they joined forces with former Free/Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers to make the 'Cosmos Rocks' album in 2004 and although the resulting tour was very good, the soulful voice of Rodgers didn't really compliment the fun element of Queen.
As Freddie sang himself, the show must go on, and more names were dropped into the hat for more possible live dates for the future. Robbie Williams and Justin Hawkins of the Darkness were possibilities, but it was the TV programme American Idol that brought Adam Lambert to Queen's attention when they were invited over to the States to perform a couple of Queen classics with Lambert on live TV and that was when the wheels were set in motion.
So in 2012, to the surprise of many, Queen and Adam Lambert announced they were to perform three very special sold out shows at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon (which it will always be affectionately known as), the first time Queen have performed at this venue since 1975 when 'A Night At The Opera' was released.
Lambert has his critics from the rock circle, as Queen have always actually had throughout their entire career, but his high octave range and flamboyant presence is exactly what Queen needed. I even had reservations myself and the only true way to find out if the boy is up to the job is to live the live experience myself.
Admittedly it does take a few numbers for both Lambert to find his feet and for myself to really get use to the grasp of the American but it doesn't take long for him to be accepted and when he runs out on the platform into the crowd he is greeted with hysterical applause, dressed in black like an extra from a camp version of Mad Max.
With the opening bombast of 'Seven Seas Of Rhye', 'Keep Yourself Alive' and the 'Live Killers' version of 'We Will Rock You' the place is rocking. The atmosphere inside Hammersmith is electric and not only are the crowd all the way behind Lambert but this is also a celebration of the music of Queen with a killer Queen set list.
To complete the band the line up is joined by 'fifth' member Spike Edney on the keys, Neil Fairclough on bass and Roger Taylor's son Rufus is on percussion. Roger Taylor joins Lambert to share vocals on 'Under Pressure' and takes on the vocals alone for 'A Kind Of Magic' and the poignant 'These Are The Days'. Lambert won any doubters over with a stand or fall version of 'Who Wants To Live Forever' where his range silenced many.
Brian May sits on a stool for the acoustic 'Love Of My Life' where the last verse raises a massive cheer when a back screen video of Freddie Mercury appears in which he sings to the audience who lovingly sing back. As May looks behind him he wipes a tear away from his eye.
Lambert later returns to the stage dressed like a flourescent ostrich for the funky 'Dragon Attack' before a drum solo battle between the two Taylors.
The show can't go wrong with global hits like 'I Want To Break Free',' Another One Bites The Dust' and 'Radio Ga Ga' where the sight of four thousand pair of hands clapping in unison is a sight to behold.
Set closer 'Bohemian Rhapsody' sees the screen come alive once more with the younger Queen doing the 'Scaramouche' parts before Lambert explodes back onto the stage in a blaze of fireworks to rock the joint to it's finale.
Both Queen and Adam Lambert were the champions tonight in a historical and monumentous gig... THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

The Independent UK: Adam Lambert - Mercurial gift of an American Idol The Independent UK Adam Lambert - Mercurial gift of an American Idol Reality TV graduate Adam Lambert is slipping into Freddie Mercury's leotard again. The first openly gay US No 1 artist tells Luke Blackall about singing with Queen LUKE BLACKALL SATURDAY 14 JULY 2012 www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/adam-lambert--mercurial-gift-of-an-american-idol-7939328.html
It's hard to place Adam Lambert. A runner up on American Idol in 2009, his first album had a strong hint of glam rock, his latest stuff has a strong flavour of pop and emo, and he looks like a young (and slightly more handsome) Gary Numan. To top it all off, he's gay. While a gay pop star in 2012 might not sound so unusual in the UK, in the US it is.
And this year Lambert achieved a remarkable feat as his second album, Trespassing, was the first record by an openly gay male solo artist to top the US Billboard album chart. It may sound implausible, but the other homosexual stars, such as Elton John and George Michael, were not "out" when they hit the top of the charts.
But the stir caused in 2010 when Ricky Martin chose to reveal his sexuality or when, earlier this month, Frank Ocean, a member of hip hop outfit Odd Future, blogged about having had a relationship with a man, shows that the US is still some way behind much of the rest of the West when it comes to openness about homosexuality.
Lambert is not only surprised at being the first, he is also surprised at the fuss, having been out since his late teens. "I think for a long time the music industry has been scared of it, of out artists, it's been more of a niche thing," he says. "But music doesn't have an orientation, a good song is a good song, so if you're getting hung up on the artist's sexuality in your enjoyment of the song, then maybe you need to examine your own comfort level a little bit."
One of his new tracks is "Outlaws of Love", about being ostracised for falling in love with the "wrong" person, and comes, he says, at a time when change is coming to attitudes in America.
"We're in the midst of this big civil rights movement," he says. "It's beautiful to see how people are powering through and I think the timing of that and my notoriety is a privilege. I feel I do have a certain amount of responsibility – because I have a visibility that not a lot of people have in the gay community, especially in the music industry – to be comfortable, to be open." The other curiously straight creative industry in the US is Hollywood, with whose members Lambert, perhaps surprisingly, has more sympathy.
"I can understand that with actors, they want to get cast in different projects and so they have to be believable as this, that, or the other, in order to pull someone in emotionally," he says. "I get that. I get why certain actors want to stay in the closet. But with music, it's a little more autobiographical."
Is there not a suggestion that an actor coming out couldn't be good for the industry and the community?
"I've thought about it a lot and I can see why an actor coming out is a bold move, and it's very supportive of the community and visibility, and challenging stereotypes are big parts of our movement, but unfortunately they may be sacrificing certain work they can get. And what's more important? They are probably looking out for themselves first."
The 30-year-old seems to have a lot more (of value) to say than the average reality-show-anointed pop star. He also points out that his recording process is more comprehensive than many of his peers. He worked on Trespassing for a year and a half, recording more than 50 songs in the process. The ones that did make it onto the final record were played with until he felt satisfied.
"I'm my own worst critic. I nitpick details. And I know that I put every song through the wringer."
While he won't be drawn on comparisons to contemporary artists, he has a seemingly endless list of 1990s stars who influenced his latest work, from Missy Elliot to Gwen Stefani to 2 Unlimited. The album progresses from a positive first half to a darker second, and explores his life post-Idol, from the dark, exhausted days after a world-tour to the realisation that he is "a lucky motherfucker".
Despite this, he admits his relatively new arrival to fame wasn't quite the stream of parties, freebies and non-stop glamour that he had anticipated.
"I was wrong! I didn't get invited to any fabulous parties, not really," he says. "I thought it was going to be the free pass to some exclusive club. In actuality, it creates a lot more obstacles, socially.
His first major introduction to the appetite of the celebrity press came last year when he was involved in a fight with his Finnish boyfriend Sauli Koskinen in a bar in Finland. Today Lambert blames it on a combination of jet-lag, lack of sunlight and just too much to drink. And despite some reports, he says that he wasn't technically arrested, just taken to a police station "to sleep it off".
"The next day, we were like, 'what just happened?'" he says, still looking slightly embarrassed. "It was a very childish, silly, stupid thing." Today he and Koskinen are happy and have been dating for more than 18 months, even though he admits to having "arrested development when it comes to relationships".
The release of his latest work coincides with one of his biggest opportunities yet, touring with Queen. He performed with Roger Taylor and Brian May when they were guests on American Idol, and he then performed as frontman at this year's MTV European Music Awards and, this week was in Freddie Mercury's role again for three dates in London.
With their high ranges and power, Lambert and Mercury have some vocal similarities, even though their personalities (Lambert's openness and Mercury's shyness) and routes to fame seem quite different.
"I can't sing [the songs] as well as Freddie Mercury, of course I can't, he wrote them," he says. "I don't want to mimic him, that would be disrespectful to his memory. My goal is to be myself, but to make sure that I'm singing the songs as they were intended and [ask] 'what was the intention emotionally and musically here?'"
One thing that they do appear to have in common is that, just like Mercury helped break down boundaries in the UK in the 1980s and 1990s, Lambert's success could well help do the same thing on the other side of the Atlantic.
Adam Lambert's album 'Trespassing', and its first single, 'Never Close Our Eyes', are both out now

Culture Newspaper [Russia]: Brian May | Google Translation atop.proboards.com/post/276694/thread Culture [Russia] Brian May - "Culture": portal-kultura.ru/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=296
Dennis BOCHAROV Brian May - a figure in popular music is truly unprecedented. Clever and intelligent among the rockers and otvyaznoy professors, Mae - the only rock musician with a worldwide reputation, which is a Doctor of Science. Always polite, courteous, always with a charming smile, the man - the exclusive property of the ambiguous world of pop culture. They are hard not to admire, it is impossible not to respect. July 19 founder, guitarist, and the keeper of traditions of Queen marks 65 years of age. In anticipation of this significant date, "Culture" was able to talk to the principal gentleman of rock.
Culture: Brian, what do you think the main difference between rock and pop music?
Mae: Interesting question. I think there all a matter of sincerity with which the artists present their works. I think that pop music is primarily designed to please people, give them pleasure. While rock music is more honest, passionate, not only is it not so appealing to our pleasure centers, how many invites to reflection, empathy. Although in general the line delineated these concepts are very thin. You should not take these things one-sided and blinkered: they say, is rock and pop here. Over time, this is a good start to understand, since the age of perfectionism is giving way to judgment. When I was young, I also differentiated between items on a "cool" or "not cool". Then, because it was thought that love rock - cool, and pop - no. Queen clearly fell under the category of "rock", and, say, ABBA were pure pop. And for a young music fan is a fan of ABBA was the same as if not worthy, because there was an unspoken belief that they lack creativity "klevosti." But today, listening to the songs of Benny and Bjorn, I feel as much in their passion and sincerity. This is a brilliant pop. Or, say, Leonard Bernstein - I love his music, although this is not a rock. His stuff too full of passion, though very different properties. You know, by and large, it does not matter which direction to include a particular piece of music. There are just good music and bad.
Culture: What's the difference between the popular music of the past and present?
Mae: I can not say that is familiar with many of today's trends. However, it is obvious that the penetration of Internet in almost every house music has become, perhaps, more personal, personalized, which is probably a good idea. Today, you can put your product in a network to put video on YouTube, and it will become known to thousands of people around the world. Music - is communication, and in this sense similar to "access" - it is a healthy phenomenon.
Culture: You recently traveled to Russia with concerts, which acted as a frontman Adam Lambert. Do not plan to undertake this large-scale tour with his participation?
Mae: I do not exclude such a possibility. This guy is great. Adam is full of energy, he's a brilliant professional. He has an amazing voice, and with very few people can be compared to the contemporary scene. His enormous range is not only to take notes exorbitant - thanks to Adam express themselves beautifully. At rehearsals, I was sometimes overwhelmed with emotion. When I first heard him perform Who Wants To Live Forever, I was literally stunned just was not internally ready for such an amazing interpretation of the song. I get great pleasure from the co-operation with Adam.
Culture: And why do your co-operation began with Adam? How and why did you choose it?
Mae: I think some things in this world is predetermined, prescribed by fate itself. Once Adam came on the scene in the show American Idol, our drummer Roger Taylor began receiving calls and sms-messages along the lines of: "You should pay attention to this guy! He's great! He - like Freddie! He was the only person who can do his songs, 'and everything like that. Of course, we were intrigued. And then the show organizers called us and asked if we would want to play with the two finalists - we were pleased to do so.* During this mini-set, we found that Adam is really phenomenal. Then at the MTV Awards ceremony in Belfast, we, along with Adam played The Show Must Go On, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions - and he was again incomparable. Therefore, when shortly after the above ceremony, the Russian promoters reached out to us with a proposal to perform with Adam Lambert in your country, we did not think for too long.*
Culture: There are persistent rumors that you are going to collaborate with Lady Gaga ...
May: Actually, I have worked with her, played the song You And I with her latest album Born This Way. We also performed together at the MTV Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. I was very pleased with it. Dense concrete plans of cooperation we are not bears, but are in contact. I think it is a very talented actress, completely given to the business: it seems that she lives it 24 hours a day. Music for her - it is both work and pleasure and a hobby, just her whole life.
Culture: How are shooting a feature film about Freddie Mercury with Sacha Baron Cohen in the title role?
Mae: I know that everything was okay, as planned, so to speak. We have seen the script, and he, in general, is largely correct, that is, the more precise to say, not divorced from reality. And this is not easy to achieve when it comes to movies, biopic on the rock stars. Of course, in this case there are points of contention - some of the details, I'm sure will cause a heated controversy in the camp of fans of Queen, and in the press, but overall, once again, the script is very good. Remove truthful film in general is very difficult - you just can try to make a movie, which is relevant to real life painting, which has its own point of view. This film has attitude. It is not absolutely realistic, but it is a very honest attempt to tell about Freddie.
Culture: What are you more proud in my life - the fact that a famous musician or the fact that you respected scholar?
Mae: I suspect that the fact and the other in about equal measure. However, today I am most proud that this is actively engaged in this (pointing to his badge with the words Save Me. This name-based Bryan Foundation in charge of protecting animals from abuse and cruelty - "Culture"). I spent a lot of time and energy trying to change the alarming state of affairs in the world, namely, how people treat animals. I think that humanity is making a serious mistake, believing that the person - is master of the universe, and in general the only creature on this planet that deserves attention. In the cement-concrete world we have created, there is no room for others - a charming and defenseless - creatures. I try to change it. People today are for the most part so far removed from the animals, which sometimes panicky fear them: see, used to fly in horror throw up one's hands and immediately rush to kill her. Thus, without noticing, we kill everything. This is a big mistake. This is bad for animals and for ourselves.
Culture: What would you say is the biggest failure, a major setback in your life?
Mae: We need to think ... Failures of the last, perhaps, that's what. We have, as you know, there's the musical We Will Rock You, which is delivered in many countries around the world. In London, he still continues to accompany a great success. For ten years the theater Dominion, in which he shows every evening gathers notices. But here in Las Vegas this musical, they say, "not rolled." In general, bringing We Will Rock You in every country, we come to the matter very carefully and meticulously - from production to the selection of musicians and actors. In Vegas, we have also had a great cast, and generally find fault with, from our point of view, it was not for nothing, but there is a musical suffered a complete fiasco. This is hardly possible to name the biggest failure in your career and life, but it was definitely a big disappointment.
Culture: What music do you listen to while driving?
May: Yes, what you want, depending on your mood, from Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff to the Foo Fighters and the new album of the same Adam Lambert - I absolutely omnivorous.
Culture: You are a recognized astronomer. But astrology, you are not interested in an hour? Do you believe horoscopes?
May: At the instinctive level, probably not. I do not follow this logic, it seems to me a kind of a funny game. But sometimes, sitting in any Chinese restaurant, for the sake of curiosity, with a smile lurking horoscope: they say, well, well, something I prepared for the fate of this week? Yeah, I will be meeting with someone important to me to avoid this or that, well, everything like that. Sometimes some of this is true, why not?
Culture: What is the period of creative activity Queen is most interesting to you?
May: Oh, really, I do not know ... (For a long time thinks). Perhaps the earliest years. After all, it was a novelty then, everything was so exciting, vibrant and intriguing ... We were, in fact, ordinary boys, we had no vision and a clear understanding of what to do and how to get it right. We moved the touch, experimenting, risk. And we just did was unreal, insane belief in themselves.
In general, each period in the history of our group was amazing. And the present also. We had a wonderful life - beyond the most daring and desperate dreams. And I do not get tired every day thankful.
