Adam's unknown in the UK but he had A+ promo (or at least I thought he did) and 3 pretty high profile gigs with Queen. I just thought he would be able to debut higher than Carrie. But, it also shows just how important success in the US is to breaking things open in the UK. It helps---and was basically Carrie's ticket to doing as well as she did, since she is also not real well-known. Carrie's UK promo was nothing short of Adam's from print & radio interviews to TV exposure, especially she's got a leg up at airplay (despite limited spins by R2, her AI is way higher than Adam's); also, she sold out the Royal Albert Hall (5000 capacity) in less than 2hrs before her debut, and that just goes to show she does have a sizable fan base in the UK. The only thing that Carrie didn't have was a mini-tour with a local music royalty, and because of that, I think we (at least most of us) had a much higher expectation. Did the Queen concerts help Adam with his 2nd UK launch? I personally don't think the impact and significance of this past week's events can be measured by those short term sales numbers. Btw, Carrie debuted at #11 on the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, down to #38 the 2nd week, then off the chart; Usher charted at #39 this week, down from last week #28. This is not to compare artists but to show that it's very tough to stay on that chart. The regular residents on that chart are either "caught-on massively" (Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, etc.), or major players whose singles are played by R1 to death, then there're comfort staples (Adele, Lady Antebellum, etc.)

My thanks to all of you who have created this wonderful Queenbert experience.
I think my favourite moment is Adam singing the "I've fallen in love" verse from "I Want to Break Free" in Kiev. He has such a radiant smile when he sings those words and then when he shakes his head it's as if he can't get over his good fortune in finding a soulmate after all his years of chasing a loving relationship. He almost has a gleeful chuckle in his singing voice at the end of that verse. I'm sure he must shake his head a lot in disbelief of what has happened to him over the last three years. But I bet meeting Sauli while on a grueling tour, in a Finnish bar of all places, just as he was about to leave, must rank way up there. Oh well, I must admit I do love a good romance and I love the happiness that love can bring.

Thank you Tinafea for keeping all the home fires burning in Q3's absence.
I am so obsessed with I Want to Break Free and the one yesterday, IMO, was the best. Adam's joy is on display for all to see. Just love it. This might have been answered already but what is the Brian solo part he is playing just before the song starts? Is it part of another song? Adam is sitting on the stairs and looks enthralled.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for having this Queen fan around for the last few weeks It was quite an experience. Overall impressions: I was cautiously optimistic when I first heard of the tour having known and liked Adam's voice while not being sure if it would work. Kiev came and there were some hiccups but overall was pleased and again stayed cautiously optimistic that the shows would improve. In some ways I had perhaps some disappointment in the rockier numbers (WWRY fast, KYA, FBG) but in other ways he blew away my expectations (in the ballads like WWTLF, TSMGO (after Kiev:P), WATC) and yet in other ways my expectations were right on the money (the poppier & funkier side like AOBTD, Dragon Attack, Break Free) The shows did get better with time and by the end I find that it was a great experience overall. Adam did well, and more importantly to me - Brian and Roger not only did well but really appeared to have an absolute blast like i haven't seen them have in a long time. (the first couple of PR gigs were fun for them as well...but they really seemed to cut loose here). That fun was infectious. And despite some OTT fans on both sides, it was great to see two fandoms come together and enjoy the music I wish Adam the best of luck in the future and I'll stick around during the afterglow although probably not as large a presence.....and hopefully I'll get a chance to come back around more full time during the US tour I'll still try to come around and check the Queen thread or if people wanted to PM me...but I don't see myself getting caught up in the Adam news threads too often (...I probably will read them now and again though ) talon-Thanks so much for joining in this past week or so and freely and patiently sharing your vast knowledge of Queen and sharing your thoughts and impressions of Adam and his performances as well. Our Queen + Adam Lambert experience was so much fuller because of your presence here at Atop. I hope you do continue to at least check in periodically. Thank you again... 8-)

But, Carrie, I thought, spent about a week in the UK, and Adam has been doing promo on-and-off for the past month. Although you are right, she must be more well-known than I thought since she sold-out RAH.
So, how is Adam actually doing in the UK after the Queen gigs and all of promo? Where would he be without all the gifting? I guess the next couple weeks will tell the story. Shoshanna and Adam have worked so hard, I hope radio comes through.

Only a day since Queenbert and half the fandom already seem to be spiraling into negativity Glad I can escape from it here :D Well, I misread that, got on my Huffy bike, and cycled through the last six pages to see what had upset you. Then I reread your post. Whatever you're following that is clearly so nuts, quit going there, 'k ? JFC, if ever there was a time to sit back and bask in the Adam glow, this is it. He took an astonishing risk, kicked its ass from noon to breakfast, and came out a huge winner on this gig. Great music, great new friends/colleagues, great recognition from music royalty....sheee-it, what do they want from him? Now Nile has something up his sleeve, the Trespassing stuff is starting up again, and Adam has no doubt earned a very nice chunk of cash. He's doing everything he possibly can, he looks wonderful, and he has someone to love. It's ALL good, bb.
