I hope, in the next couple weeks we will see the single get some new airplay from someone other than Capital (and that they keep spinning, too) and the song and album just don't disappear from the chart completely. NCOE is nearing the end of its life cycle in the UK. This is the peak week for single sales. Radio 1 is really the only one that can drive a song further up the charts after its released and they will only really add songs 4 - 8 weeks before a single release date. They position themselves in the market as being ahead of the curve. It takes really stand-out songs usually performing exceptionally well elsewhere in the world for them to do any differently. NCOE, god love it, is not in this scenario. The goal for sales of NCOE this week was to show that Adam can have an impact in this country so Shoshanna and RCA in the UK can go back to Radio 1 with Cuckoo ( ) and get them to add it. Artists in the UK sometimes start promoting the next single the week after the first one is released. Bring on Cuckoo! :D

C'mon, RCA, It's time to "release the hounds"!!

Does anyone know what it is that actually dictates what Radio 1 add? All the new single entires this week including the two below Adam made the A-list, Adam didn't even make the C-list. I don't get it :dunno:

So after week #1 it's downhill all the way in the UK unless it's already high on the radio play chart before the release date? Is that right?
And the songs on this chart that were not huge hits in the rest of the world are considered "stand out songs"? www.ukairplaychart.com/uk/rolling_week/
Ok - the position of NCOE is meaningful then ONLY in relation to how receptive R1 might be to single #2, right?
Trying to understand.........

[/IMG]
It's done by the playlist committee. Radio 1 needs to be convinced to buy into Adam as an entity. If you want to see how much Adam is up against getting a Radio 1 add - look at their lineup for their 2 day summer concert this year (they tout it as a 2 day festival, but really it's just the same as radio concerts every other station does but dressed up a bit): www.bbc.co.uk/music/events/e9wmxj/performancesNot a whole lot pop. Hours and hours and hours of dance and urban. Compare it to Capital FM's radio concert line up this year: www.capitalfm.com/summertime-ball/artists/

Trying to understand......... Yes, yes to your 1st and 3rd paragraphs. NCOE hasn't broken him in the UK. Airplay without Radio 1, even with Capital on board, just didn't get high enough - Shoshanna needed the high sales figures/chart position for NCOE from the fans to be able to push Cuckoo (high five to mys*&@^#r!). For your 2nd paragraph, I'd love to do a cross comparison between that airplay chart, the Radio 1 playlist and the Official (sales) chart. Radio 1 regularly jumps all over songs and puts them on their A list that never chart particularly well relatively. Getting on their playlist doesn't guarantee success, but they are the great influencer.

I would think it would be pretty difficult to get Radio 1 to jump on board with NCOE when it hasn't caught on anywhere else. It all comes back to the single choices and RCA dropping the ball in the US.
