FLAC (lossless) recording of 1st Queen + AL London gig
bit.ly/MrQoGT Talon... can you help us with this one please?? Thanks in advance.
I will. I'm downloading now. I should be able to put it up in mediafire in the not too distant future
Now we only need days 2 and 3 and hopefully TALC will come through for Day 2:)
A few of the long-time posters over there were reasonable but they were shouted down/piled on by the rest. I appreciate that some were trying to being objective over a very emotional issue for them.
And, I do understand that. I appreciate those who were trying. I don't read there, and really don't understand why it needs to be brought here either. I also understand that it is emotional for them, but there is no reason to bash Adam because of their loss of Freddie. One has nothing to do with the other. And, yes, I do understand that *anyone* trying to replace (not that Adam was) Freddie is hard for them. But, their constant bashing of Brian and Roger has made me very irritated, to say the least. Would Freddie have approved of that?? I think not. That's just my opinion, and I'll leave it at that.
This is very difficult for me. I'm soxtalon over there. I try to be very diplomatic (as some of you have noticed...
)
The unfortunate part of that is really seeing both sides and just getting grrr in general
But I simmer and get over it quick and back to my happy self. If you notice I actually have probably posted more here than there about the collaboration because I frankly didn't want to get in the middle of it. So I generally read the Q+AL stuff but only post in the Q areas.
But what I have to say is this:
Both sides suck.
Most Queen fans would say that without Freddie, Queen is not really Queen. From that though most people also love seeing Brian and Roger live. So how does that happen? Well since B&R don't feel confident enough in doing a show without a singer than they have to find one. Finding one to please everyone is impossible.
That being said, I am appalled at the harshness of some Queen fans at time and I agree that B&R are given an unfair shake somet imes although I can understand some of their frustrations - it goes a bit beyond just AL.
(I think if AL was the first it might be better...but there are some fans who think B&R will whore it out with anyone who wants to sing with them...any old X-Factor/AI person while the fans themselves feel more sacred about the band/songs. I think B&R feel the songs are sacred, but are willing to have fun at anytime and perform with anyone that wants to perform - no harm no foul. I agree with them but understand why some are against it)
There are also a few posters who are just jokers and will bash anybody for a joke. It's juvenile but I know they don't mean harm...so I just brush them off. There are the good Queen fans...and some who are on the outskirts of the bashers, and there are some great Adam fans over there as well trying to make some good points.
These good points are received by a lot of Q fans over there, I can guarantee that.
BUT then both of the passionate sides of the coin rise and it becomes war especially when it starts coming down to Adam vs. Freddie. The one thing that seems to have really sparked the war is when a few Adam fans started claiming that Adam was superior to Freddie. Yes. everyone can have their own opinion...but discretion is probably better and knowing where you are. That's one thing I would want to teach. Note I'm not completely blaming Adam fans there for 2 reasons. A. I'm sure the AL haters over there are spurring more and more outlandish statements and B. I guarantee that if the rabid Q fans came over here they would be just as outlandish and instigating.
I won't. You'll never again (at least this directly) ever see my opinions about Freddie vs Adam. I have discretion
I could be wrong but I feel that most of the haters react because a lot of the Adam is AWESOME and has really ROCKED with Queen makes them go on the defensive because maybe just subconsciously it seems Adam is substituting for Freddie so any talk about how good Adam was seems like people are forgetting Freddie - rightly or wrongly (and I think it is wrongly so we're clear).
Ah well...I think the truth is there to find and I think there is a statement that both riled up sides should probably agree on but won't because of ego or what not. And that statement is as follows:
Freddie is widely considered the greatest frontman in rock history. He had an amazing voice, was a phenomenal performer, and a legendary gifted composer who wrote and sang for over 20 years yielding legendary hit after hit, and gig after gig until his tragic death cut his legacy short.
Adam has a wonderful voice, great stage presence, and is a really down to earth gentleman. Adam certainly has great potential in the world of music. Someday he might be considered in the upper echelon of the talent in the music world or he might tragically never be noticed or fully embraced as his talent suggests. He may even approach legendary status, but it's simply to early to bestow that upon him.
As for this marriage of Q+AL - It does not fit like a glove. There are some moments that are brilliant, and some which are not quite as perfect, but Freddie WAS Queen's singer so it was obviously tailor made for him while Adam is doing a phenomenal job trying to fill in to shoes that aren't necessarily his. He has made B&R thrilled, and those open enough to attend his concerts usually walk away quite satisiied at the least and well rocked at best
It is a marriage that has earned the right to continue despite the haters and if done respectfully should be given the chance to please more.
And to counteract the general arguments.
OTT Q fans - Adam is far from a talentless reality show product. True, he has gotten an opportunity that has not been afforded someone of his lack of big time experience, but that doesn't make him any less talented or deserving. In a world where the music business is sometimes easier to get into but much harder to stay there, he should be given all the chances in the world to shine with the amazing vocal talent he has.
OTT A fans - Adam simply does not have the time in and catalogue to be spoken of in the same league of Freddie...yet. He also has a voice which some people feel is better suited to pop/theater than true rock and roll. This a matter of opinion of which everyone is allowed. But the truth is Freddie sang all the Queen songs because they were his songs. Adam is singing someone else's songs so they will never sound completely right to some ears. That doesn't mean it's bad but it does mean that some will not approve. It also doesn't mean it shouldn't happen.

End of statement...and end of rambling. :D Sorry for the longwinded post - just trying to get some of my feelings out as a Queen fan on an Adam board. I've tried to be very respectful about it and hopefully I haven't offended anybody too much
