January 3, 2012 | 12:05 pm PT Welcome Back, American Idol www.americanidol.com/news/view/pid/6208/?ref=socialmedia_2012_01_03_WelcomeBackp://
The incredible journey is about to begin as American Idol, America’s No. 1 show, returns for its remarkable 11th season. Featuring host Ryan Seacrest and returning judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler, American Idol is set to return with a two-night event showcasing the nation’s most extraordinary talent Wednesday, Jan. 18 8/7c and Thursday, Jan. 19 8/7c. Auditions will continue with a special, extended primetime broadcast of AMERICAN IDOL Sunday, Jan. 22 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game on FOX.
The show’s judges – Jackson, Lopez and Tyler – traveled to Savannah, Aspen, Galveston, Pittsburgh, Portland, San Diego and St. Louis in search of contestants with the raw talent and potential to become the next American Idol. Auditions continue on Wednesday, Jan. 25 8/7c and Thursday, Jan. 26 8/7c; Wednesday, Feb. 1 8/7c and Thursday, Feb. 2 8/7c; and Wednesday, Feb. 8 8/7c on FOX.
The contestants who impress the judges will head to Hollywood and be put to the ultimate test during the “Hollywood Rounds,” airing Thursday, Feb. 9 8/7c; Wednesday, Feb. 15 8/7c; and Thursday, Feb. 16 8/7c.
On Wednesday, Feb. 22 8/7c, those who make it through Hollywood must then take the “Performance Challenge,” where they face the judges one last time before the top male and top female semifinalists are revealed on Thursday, Feb. 23 8/7c.
The judges have their say after every performance, but it’s the viewing public that determines who will advance to the next round of the competition and who will go home. In the milestone 400th episode, airing on a special night, Tuesday, Feb. 28 8/7c, the first group of semifinalists will take the stage to sing for America’s votes.
The following night, Wednesday, Feb. 29 8/7c, the remaining semifinalists will perform. The competition takes an intense turn on the two-hour LIVE results show Thursday, March 1 8/7c as America’s vote reveals the first set of finalists, then those that remain will have one last chance to perform for the judges who will round out the 2012 American Idol finalists with their wild card picks.
The following week, the competition heats up when the finalists take the stage on Wednesday, March 7 8/7c. One finalist’s journey will end as America’s vote is revealed on Thursday, March 8 8/7c.

I gotta say that I love this article; I agree with all of their suggestions: idolator.com/6132332/american-idol-11-things-we-never-want-to-see-on-the-show-again#more-6132332My favorites: - "Randy Jackson’s catchphrases. First it was “dawg.” Then it was “in it to win it.” Randy, you’re the judge who’s been there the longest! Stop spouting your annoying one-liners and give actual critiques of performances using a variety of words." - "Guest mentors who have no real advice to give. When we think of somebody who should be giving out advice, Miley Cyrus is not the first person who comes to mind. And please, we beg you, no more appearances by will.i.am, who basically lived at American Idol last season." (Note from me: As time goes by, we see further reinforcement of how good a mentor Adam actually was in Season 9. Wish they would ask him back this year!) - "A non-threatening young man as the winner. We’re not saying a girl has to win American Idol Season 11, but enough of these by-the-numbers guys with yawn personalities." (Note from me: AMEN!!!) Of course, none of these changes will be made, but a girl can dream! And I will still watch the show anyway. ;D

WUT??!!!!!!!!!!!!! They took Adam, Daughtry, and JHud out of the opening credits and put Lauren, Haley, James, Pia, and Casey in them!! WTF?!!!!!!!! Three of them don't even have albums out yet! I am OK with Lauren, since she was runner up but c'mon...... the other 3 have yet to prove themselves!

I was reading an article in the Houston Chronicle last week and one of the music critics said that one of the things that desperately needed to happen this year w/Idol was for the judges to actually judge and give constructive criticism. I wish I could find the link; it was a good article. This? www.chron.com/life/article/Delete-these-tunes-from-Idol-play-list-2587943.phpThis season, the best thing the judges can do is actually judge It's pretty sad when Randy Jackson comes off like the voice of reason. They all need to be more honest, more coherent and a little meaner. Lopez has the cred to really hone in on what it takes to be a superstar. Tyler has the catalog to really offer some hefty, sage advice. And Jackson - we just wish he'd stop saying "dawg."
We're always going to miss Simon Cowell (though The X Factor did him no favors). But smarter, sharper criticism might make it hurt a little less.Yes!! Thank you! Here's some more: Judging the judges
Last season's major overhaul ushered in A-listers Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez to the panel, which generated lots of excitement for the first few weeks. Even I was hopeful. Then we got to the live shows. Lopez had almost none of the Jenny-from-the-block spunk we'd hoped for (though she looked jaw-droppingly gorgeous). And Tyler's bleeped babbling was funny for about three episodes.ETA: This post was brought over from the 1/23/12 Daily News Thread.

Madonna's new mv featuring Nikki Minaj on Thursday on AI - I have to admit, I will be watching for the first time this season 'cuz I wanna see what that's gonna be like. Then, they'll perform at Super Bowl Sunday.

Well the auditions are over and I can say that not one person has really grabbed my attention. Just as well because I couldn't possibly follow another person like I follow Adam. And now I have even less respect for the judges!!!
