Fantasy Springs Indio CA | Recaps *stumbles into thread and waves to everybody* Just wanted to say a belated hello to everyone. I haven't been able to keep up at all with Atop and am missing my daily 'fix' and y'all badly I'm currently sitting in my hotel room opposite Fantasy Springs resort and will head over there shortly to meet even more wonderful Adam fans. Honestly, this part of an adventure like this is one of the best things about being an Adam fan ;D I just went down for brekkie a short while ago and the breakfast room was full of Adamites. Lobby computer had Adam pic up on monitor & cellphone ringtones were all going off to Tresspassing ringtones...lolol
I've been having a blast, but it's going to take me a REALLY LONG time to process everything when I get home. My body and brain currently has no idea what country, city or time zone it's actually existing in and I'mma wandering around #dazedandconfused. Which, if I'm being honest, is not that unusual...lol
I am so excite to physically be a THE FS for realz. Can't wait for tonight *bounce, bounce, bounce*
I also want to send my love to my darling friend Nica who I got to reunite and stay with again briefly in New York for oh such a short time. Love you to bits Momma Bear and yes, you were right.... two cheeses on the croissant you put in my packed lunch was perfect 8-) nom, nom, nom....... xoxoxoxoxoxo
Gotta go, places to see, peeps to meet and a Adam Fucking Lambert concert to put the cherry on top of everything.
Luvz to all, Cherie
Not going to be too coherent. Will try to get it together more tomorrow. This was not a show. This was a happening. Had a talk with Tommy about it afterward. Adam didn't want a structured show. Sure, there were the songs - especially at the beginning - that had a coherence but even those songs were totally on fire with lots of spontaneous do dads. We have seen Adam move like that but not CONTINUOUSLY!!!!! We were dying out there.
He was on and off the stage. No one knew WTF was going on. It was nuts!!!!!!!! The whole fan crush/security clash - threats, pushing, insisting on seeing tickets again - who the hell had them anymore? Surreal. Adam in the audience - everyone freaking out.
Cuckoo encore - Unreal. His interaction with each band member including playing the drums with Isaac. I tell you, I am in the "what the hell was in his tea" camp. He was so off the leash. WE LOVED IT
I kind of felt I was in the King of Hearts movie. Those who know that film will know exactly what I mean.
All of us met in the rooftop bar. So funny to see the faces of the fans. We were all stunned. I don't think there is another word.
My first Fantasy Spring. OMG
Uhm....what the hell happened last night?
Teddybear, we were on a crazy train of ecstasy that's what happened!!
It was my 2nd Fantasy Springs and I brought my sister-in-law (a casual fan) along this time. 10 min. into the concert, she was screaming "I love you, Adam!" then when Adam summoned us to the front, she immediately grabbed my arm and just ran to the front (we went from 18th row to the 4th). Oh my god, the looks on all the security guys! I fucking LOVE "HBIC Adam" especially when he addressed those sitters in the front.
Oh, btw, when Sauli & the rest of gang were passing thru the aisle to leave after the show, I was so close to him, like right there, and he happened to look at me so I just "naturally" blurted out "hi Sauli" then I did something so natural when you talk to your girlfriend---I touched his arm very briefly; and, he just smiled and kept on being pushed thru. He is so TINY in person! and I'm a petite myself! LOL.
I danced my ass off the whole time, then some more at bar later after the show, now it's almost friggin 3am and my feet are killing me, gonna get some sleep before the 5hr drive home tommorow morning.
One more thing, I want to give a big shout-out to JustKaren: thank you again for hand-delivering my Fault mag! I really appreciate it!
Eeeeeeeee, I need to flail about this concert!!!!! This was TOTALLY different from anything I've seen before from Adam. The energy was so wild and silly and fun and ridiculous and just messy amazing goodness all around. Such a weird mix—parts of it felt polished and perfect, and other parts were just random and weird and unrehearsed, but all in a really good way. It was definitely more like a party than a concert, and he invited the whole audience to just let loose and fucking get downnnnn with him!
I feel like this was his first chance in a while to hang out with his own music and his own die-hard fans and just do his own thing. The Queen concerts were incredible and amazing of course, but he was singing other peoples' songs to crowds of mainly Queen fans. And then he had a fair concert and a radio concert, neither of which were places he could really just do whatever the fuck he wanted. Unlike last night! It felt like he put on his own comfy clothes and partied with his friends who really get him. I loved loved loved all the improv and the banter and the goofing around. I adored his audience interaction and the way he badgered the casino tribe people to get up off their asses. Total hearts in my eyes for all the love he sent out to Sauli. Loved how he wanted to wrap himself up in his fans, literally, and trotted right out into the throng to be out where we were partying.
I had a really great spot—on the Vajayjay's side, about 10 rows back on the inside aisle. There was an empty row on the other side of the aisle, but just before the concert Adam's family and friends came and sat there. Terrance and a friend of his were having the time of their lives, I swear. They were dancing and flailing as hard as any glambert and having a total ball. Sauli looked like he was having a blast and mesmerized by Adam and sending love back his way, and I must say he is amaaaaaazingly hot and good-looking up close, damn! (And also absolutely teensy tiny!)
Pretty sure the security guards would be happy to never see Adam again, lol. The ones I saw were at first bemused at the flailing audience, but once Adam started breaking all the rules, you could tell they were having a terrible time dealing with the outcome. And the crowd did become kind of out of control actually, which became a distraction, what with people jostling and pushing and refusing to back to their seats and arguing with security, etc. Personally I'd rather have just a straight-out GA crowd than something like this. So that was my only complaint from tonight. Actually, I'm quite sure Adam's favorite is to have a GA crowd, or at least a GA section. He seemed to genuinely crave the immediacy and touch and energy of fans last night, to the point where he couldn't get enough on stage and hopped down to get a bigger fix.
I've seen some speculation about whether Adam was drunk or high. LOL. I've been at shows where Adam has been under the influence of whatever (and I have no problem with that actually), and I am 100% convinced that he was sober last night, and everyone I was with agreed. His vocals were totally on the mark, and despite the loose vibe of the show, he was completely present and aware and in-tune with everything that was going on.
This concert was one of those epic, crazy, completely-unexpected, delights. Absolutely nothing like FS #1, yet I think it'll go down as legend in the same way. If the Queen concerts were high tea on fine china, this was a Roman feast reclining on silk cushions—messy and imperfect and fucking awesome!
Hi, everyone! Well, my intrepid partner Tom and I are back from Fantasy Springs. Not sure where to put this recap, so if it's in the wrong place, I apologize. Please let me know if you want me to move it.
Here are my observations. We'll call them the Good, the Not-So-Good, and the Sweet.
The Good
- As everyone has said so far, Adam was awesome (no surprise). He sounded great, and he was clearly having a great time. What really struck me is how comfortable he is just being himself on stage -- I think his confidence and power has really grown over the past 2 years through the GNT and then Queen. He is also, above all, one of the most joyful performers I have ever seen, and it is impossible not to feel that joy when he is on the stage.
- Adam and his band and the back-up singers have mad love for each other. Watching all of them interact on the stage together, you can see they clearly have professional respect and great personal affection for each other. It was also nice to see Tommy and Ashley interact more with Adam and each other both at Costa Mesa and FS. I think the whole group has found a real comfort level on stage and it's really fun and lovely to see.
- Statement of the obvious -- Adam really loves his fans. The genuine love and affection that we have for Adam is returned in equal measure by him. Sigh!
The Not-So-Good (Caveat: I realize that these observations could vary depending on where you sat in the FS facility. We sat in the risers to the right of the stage. Peeps on the floor probably had a different experience.)
- FS is not a concert facility -- it's a large meeting room. I felt like I was sitting in my high school gym. Not my favorite place for a concert by a long shot. The feeling of connection with Adam and with our fellow concert-goers was pretty poor where we were sitting. The Pac Amp, which is more than twice the size, felt more intimate than the FS room. This may have affected the people around us -- most of them seemed to be having a good time, but they mainly sat and clapped. We were among the few on our feet and dancing.
- The sound quality was not good. It was loud, and Adam came through clearly, but the mix was murky. It was hard to hear the bass and keyboards at time. Quite a come-down from the Pac Amp on Thursday.
The Sweet
- After the concert, we sat by the pool to get some fresh (albeit very hot) air. When we walked back to the lobby, we saw Tommy and Ashley talking with the fans in the lobby. They were there quite a while, talking and taking pictures. We also saw Keisha, Renee, Brian and Isaac as they were leaving, and we spoke to them briefly to say thanks for the great concert. All of these people seem to be very sweet -- Adam has surrounded himself with wonderful people.
- With the exception of Keisha and Renee, who are really beautiful, the band members are pocket people. They are all very attractive (Ashley is gorgeous -- I have a girl crush on her), but very short and petite. I guess Adam likes to be the HBIC and the tallest one on stage. ;D
So that's it -- Adam is awesome, the band and back-up singers are great, FS is a lousy place for a concert, but it was definitely worth the cost and the 5-hour (round-trip) drive.
I spoke with one of the staff and asked if this was a busy night for them, out of the ordinary. He said when Adam came the place went crazy! He also said ever since they had Adam the first time their business has grown steadily. Could be all the FS references on line! I lived in SoCal for 30 years and never knew they were there. I also didn't prompt him with why I was there!
I left FS this morning to return home and only made it to Phoenix. I did not drink last night but I have an Adam hangover.
I’m sure it felt different to the people that were going down to the stage but with my view this is what I saw. The surge started and you could see it run like a huge wave, then slow and pulse. When Adam started telling people not to push and be nice it was if someone had commanded their dog to STAY and that dog was a Jack Russell who really wanted to be still but the energy was too hard to hold. The forward movement did almost stop completely. I've been trying to put last night in perspective but... it may take some time.
It was a party concert, I moved stuff I forgot I had. [img src="
[/IMG] [/blockquote]
OK this is one of those posts that I said I would be making yesterday. Nothing to do with todays news, but hopefully it's OK to post
Since it appears to be very slow tonight waiting for the OK concert, I thought I'd try and give a brief recap from our California trip. We got back home at 1:30 this morning. We loved both CM and FS2, and they were both completely different. We spent the afternoon before CM at the fair with grandduchess and Theosgma, plus met up with Tippytoes shortly before the concert. We ran into Didilynn and Mayumi and her family once we were inside the venue. Sorry we couldn't make contact with everyone else, but I guess traffic was backed up getting to the venue. DH and I were seated in the first row of the back section just left of center and the view was excellent. We were able to see Adam clearly and the sound was great. We were sitting next to two sixteen year old bff's that had been to his first CM concert, and we had more fun with them throughout the concert. They were so excited and screaming through most of the concert, just beside themselves; great fun to watch.
Both Mr. Mangokat and I felt that Adam was on fire and from our perspective he certainly didn't appear tired. He was on the mark throughout. We loved every minute of every song, but PTL absolutely blew us away. We loved the MJ segment, and so did the teens next to us. The crowd was really into it and I kept checking around us and everyone was on their feet until it was over.
Just after the lights had gone down at the beginning, I looked to my left and saw Sauli coming down the aisle. He stopped to talk to a couple of people (who I finally realized were Neil and gf), and then sat down with them. I must admit that I had a hard time concentrating on Adam for the first time ever because I kept glancing over at Sauli to watch his reactions. Halfway through the concert I also saw Eber sitting with them. They were about 8 feet to our left. I pointed them out to the teens girls, and they went nuts at seeing Sauli. He is absolutely beautiful and very striking in person. It was really fun watching the reaction of Adam's family. We left after the concert talking about where we ranked this concert compared to others we've attended, and we ranked it very high. Little did we know what we would experience in two more days.
We headed to Palm Springs the next day and spent the afternoon of the 21st roaming around FS meeting other fans. Our group of Atoppers met for dinner before the concert. So glad to meet all of you, some for the first time. After a great dinner and lots of squeeing, we headed to the venue. We sat on the first row of the raised section to the right of the stage right next to Justkaren. We had attended FS1 and figured it couldn't be topped, but we weren't willing to take the chance and miss this one just in case. You have all seen the videos, so you know he topped the first one. It was absolutely the most fun we've ever had at ANY concert, ever, ever ever. It was wild, it was crazy, it was pure fun. The three of us stayed put while people clammored to the stage and the aisle right in front of us, but he came within 8 feet of us when he came down into the crowd, and he was stunning. When it was finally over, many of us met on the floor, and I think we were all completely drained. After a short meet-up in the lobby area, most of us headed up to the wine bar to try and unwind and relive the concert.
There was a lot of conjecture that night if he'll ever be invited back to FS, since he broke all the rules. From the tweets from FS since then, I wouldn't be surprised if he is. It's a long haul from Florida to California, but I can guarantee that we'll make the trek again, because we can't risk missing him at FS -- it seems to work some magic with him. To all of you who shared the magic with us, hugs and many thanks. To those of you who were there in spirit, we'll look forward to the next one!

Fantasy Springs Indio CA | Recaps Alrighty!
Even though I'm completely devoid of creative energy (jetlag has made me pale) I need to post to say a few things about July . . . this July, which has been like no other in my life.
My inspiration today is seeing posts from both grandduchess and CatzMadam. A memory I'll always treasure is the photo in my mind, as I watched these two Adamtopians leave the rooftop bar at Fantasy Springs, around midnite after Saturday's show, arms around one another in friendship.
This is what really happens. Love. Acceptance, understanding. We begin, worlds apart, literally and figuratively. Years and miles and oceans of thought separate us; and then something occurs, and our lives are changed.
Adam will never know how he's mobilized this army. From my basic training I've emerged brave, curious, joyful. I've become an explorer, just when I thought there was nothing more to be found.
In London - each performance - Adam enthralled me with a presence defying all I'd ever seen or heard. Adam sees his stage and his audience and knows exactly what nourishes us. The infinity of give and take. He took the stage, each night, knowing what the Queen audience yearned for; knowing what he could not serve. Instead, he poured forth the raw glory of himself. They devoured him!
I cannot find worry or angst after experiencing Adam and Queen. Adam is so beyond top 40 radio - stunning and exemplary aren't words that do justice - no comparison with Rhianna or Nikki or Bieber or Levine or Usher or Katy or Gaga or any of the 'pop' artists of today. Can't compare gold with fool's gold.
Then there was Fantasy Springs #2. I was one of the women in the lobby. I know Adam tweeted; but I don't gamble and I already had a drink in my hand. I didn't travel to Palm Springs, one day after coming home from Europe, to experience 108 degree heat. I came to see Adam perform. Friend and I had just finished lunch. We each had a glass of wine in our hands and were heading to the elevator when we noticed the lobby crowd. Someone said "Adam is coming down for the sound check" - so we sat on the bench at the lobby grand piano (obviously no one was playing!) to see what would happen. Someone came from the elevators, surrounded by security. This person looked pretty small, and I thought 'what a poor excuse for a decoy!'. Head down; baseball cap on. Oh! Then he walked right by me and there was no mistaking the lip and upper lip freckles - and the teeth!! It was Adam, and he was, really, amused and laughing and looking very human. Inches away. I didn't touch.
That's what I need, folks. I need to see the real thing. The real human being, because all this beauty and amazingness might make me forget that I'm rooted and sane and just merely obsessing. On stage he is twice, three times, the size. Adam creates a presence that is both commanding and astounding, perfect and vulnerable, orgasmic and childlike, confusing and clear.
You know this - you've heard of this from those who've been lucky enough to see him 'live' - 'alive'! It is so fleeting; so momentary! When it's over it feels like a dream. I can't hold on to the reality of Adam Lambert. I want to, but he is fine sand in my grasp.
So, I do the ridiculous thing. Like at Fantasy Springs. I climbed over chairs to the front (guys, I'm 60 years old) when Adam commanded it. I screamed, for a moment, when a bone in my foot was crushed as the throngs moved aside, trying to accommodate the commands of security. It blended into the cries of ecstasy we felt with 'Naked Love'; I felt the pain of bondage.
Fantasy Springs was WILD. Adam was wild. His entourage of friends and family were dancing and partying as they came to their seats. Made me wonder if my life was bland in comparison. Is life always this wonderful? Always such a reason to spin? I mean, they were on Cloud 10 - no wonder AFL came to party till they take us away! I was seeing the man who performed the night of the AMAs. He was determined to BE. This may be our unleashed, Zodiac, fuck-you Adam. I love wild! On the edge, in the front seat of the rollercoaster. Bring it on! His vocals were incredible. Don't worry about this boy caring for his voice. He knows what to do. He's got it and he knows it. Roger was right; please believe it. His voice is one in one hundred million.
"Thank you for letting me be myself again". Yeah!
I blame it on Adam's influence. He made me brave enough to go for the men's bathroom just before the show began; when the queue for 'Ladies' was a mile long and NO ONE needed 'men's' - how stupid is that?? Thanks to Adam, I'm outside the box. I'm ready to try to change 'by the rules we play'.
I began this post telling you how delightful it was to see Catz and Duchess leave arm-in-arm; I haven't mentioned how Theosgma gave me a bandage for my broken toe; nor have I spoken of the laughter I shared with Didilynn and JustKaren; or conversations with Lynne and Mangokat/Mr. Mangokat and many others from this kind, encouraging, understanding, unique place.
A special thank you to Drakius - the DVD of Kiev is spectacular! And Adamrocks . . .you know why.
Tomorrow begins another chapter. Time to take my sorry self - still on Moscow time - off to rest. The toe that's now turning left will always remind me of the journey that took me off course, onto that poetic 'road less traveled' - although, Topians, I have to say, we are blazing a trail that is clearer and more spectacular every day.
