I know it has been ages since I posted, but something just popped up in my other fandom that is similiar to something we've been discussing here recently.
Def Leppard has been my favorite band since 1988. In 1991, one of their guitarists, Steve Clark, died. A year later, the band released a new album and hired Vivian Campbell of Dio and Whitesnake to tour with them for that album. He's been a member of the band ever since.
Right now the band are celebrating the 25th yr anniversary of their diamond selling album Hysteria and uploaded a quick video on You Tube saying "Happy Birthday". It's several comments (by just one person) that made me connect Adam and Lep. The commenter said that if we wanted to give love to the correct place, it should be directed at Steve's grave, not at the living members. Of course I had to comment that if that's how they wanted to show love that's great for them, but not to dictate to the rest of us how to show our love. As a matter of fact, I am showing my love by going to see them in concert on Thursday.
The point is, if a beloved member of a band dies, it looks like there will always be those people that want the future of the band to die with them. In Def Leppard's case, it's not even the lead singer, like Freddie. It makes me sad that these folks can't move on...for their own sake. Just because I am able to accept Vivian or Adam with / in the bands, doesn't mean I disrespect the memory of Steve or Freddie.

Avari, I am often a member of the Adam Needs Idol for Exposure Club, which believe me is a terrible, anxious place to be. Adamtopia has really helped. I try to focus on what an outstanding, once in a generation voice he has, and trust that that kind of talent will have a great career. When angst rears it ugly head, I go to the Dark Side to vent a bit. Haven't felt the need to do that for a few days.
