Artist's Bio
Los Angeles based artist Ashley Dzerigian was 11 years old when she began playing the oboe in her elementary school band after being told none of the other kids would choose it. Not one to follow trends, she picked it up quickly and soon got the attention of her band director who recruited her to play bass guitar as a second instrument. Ashley immediately began taking private lessons, and by the age of 13, took on a third instrument- the upright bass. She played in every band that her schools had to offer; including marching band, jazz band, orchestra and gospel choir. Ashley attended the prestigious Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, during which time she began taking gigs that her private instructors could not make, sneaking in the backdoors of bars and making a beeline to the stage at each venue. As music became more than just a hobby, she continued on to study both electric and upright basses at California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts), focusing on Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban music, and working with mentors Alphonso Johnson (Wayne Shorter, Weather Report), Todd Johnson (6-string bass pioneer) and upright master Darek Oles. After graduating from Cal Arts in 2005, Ashley jumped right into the indie-rock scene, touring internationally and recording with bands Great Northern, Eulogies and My Jerusalem; as well as singer/song-writers Lindsey Ray, London based artist Ed Harcourt and Beastie Boys' keyboardist Money Mark, to name a few. In November of 2011, a mutual friend of Dzerigian and Fender artist Tommy Ratliff tipped her off to an audition for Adam Lambert. After landing the gig, she soon found herself making television appearances on Ellen, Jay Leno's the Tonight Show (where her strap fell off and she delivered a performance on bended knee), American Idol, Good Morning America, Live with Jimmy Kimmel and playing in arenas nationwide.
