Remember Simon's face when someone's tried to sing Mariah or Whitney's songs. That's me for Adam's (and Queen songs - except Adam). I usually cannot listen to people who try to cover Adam's songs, I just can't (yes I'm that bad). But this guy's one of the better ones, I can listen most of it.  still cannot listen the whole thing though :-/ I must say that I've never had this problem even with Adam's songs. If cover is good I have nothing against it. I have a lot of cover songs in my music library, often 5 or 6 covers of one song that I particularly like. I've never had problems with covers before, either. Coming from a classical and jazz background, "covers" are standard. Not many people writing new stuff like Beethoven or George Gershwin. BUT, once I have heard Adam sing a song, I have little interest in anyone else's version. Even the originator. Heard the original version of "Come Home' playing in the background of some program and thought, "It doesn't sound right. That voice doesn't do it justice." That was before I actually realized what the song was or that I had heard Adam sing it. My ear , brain, and body are just tuned to Adam's voice and interpretive skills. What can I say? |
