What Brian is playing seems to have little to do with what Adam's singing.....more musical people, what's the problem? (You are going to say it's me!) :D I would never say it was you! Well, probably not. I think this song does not translate well into the sparse keyboard version. Brian is just playing some very basic rhythmic chords to back up the vocal, with a little canned drum synth to provide the beat. It lacks the bass line which should really drive the song. Brian could have prerecorded a bass line and added it, but I would guess he didn't because the way Adam goes off and riffs on these intimate performances anything prerecorded wouldn't work. It has to be live to follow Adam down whatever garden path he wanders. Another option would be to have foot pedals for the bass line. I have a sister who plays keys in clubs, and she always has that piece of equipment with her. Or, he could have two keyboards, one for the bass that he could set at one sound level and sound effect, and one for the chord harmonies. At the very least, he could play a fuller accompaniment, basically filling in more. From what I have heard/read, Brian is a very accomplished musician, so why he didn't do any of those things, I don't know. Maybe it was just too much equipment to cart half way around the world for a couple of acoustic gigs? I think Adam does a great job of carrying the song regardless. I'll give Brian a pass on this one. |

Ack! It was so frustrating. I spent the last 2? hours trying to get Katie up and running on Ustream, but it's so damn hard via 140 character tweets.
She tried really, really hard to make it happen for us all - bless her, only got audio on her first try and we couldn't work out how to change it to vid/audio in time, but it didn't work in the end. U Stream is really easy to use ONCE you have channel set up and have had the luxury of time to play around and practice with it. I set my channel up weeks before traveling. Katie tried to do it in like 30 minutes from scratch after I tweeted her the U Stream app link, so a million bits of kudos to her for even attempting it.
But, in saying that.... once set up it is easy, however there seems to be at least three different parts to U Stream channel use. There is a personal profile page with personal settings, chat options, profile pic etc, a separate channel page which is totally different page to all other stuff which looks like what you guise see, but doesn't give you any options to do anything AND then you have the live stream app that actually just logs you in automatically and lets you hit a red 'go live' button and actually stream. And, for me, none of these seem to interact with each other : I have struggled with this overall app connectivity in recent weeks. I knew Katie had got her channel up and running but had audio only for her test and I could not for the life of me find which particular bit of the app I needed to get to to tell her how to change from audio only to vids.
#wassooooofrustrated, as was she, but we now know there are vids coming, so it's all goooo.... Thanks for trying, catz!! Katie was all excited, so cute... |
