Those of you who are interested in symbolism and pomegranates would enjoy this article. Back in the 60s, a 16-year-old student wanted to prove to his English teacher that it was all bunk about symbols lying beneath the obvious text in literature. He sent a survey to 150 famous authors. This was quite a project in those days before the Internet! To everyone's surprise, 75 responded, including Jack Kerouac, Ayn Rand, Ralph Ellison, Ray Bradbury, John Updike, Saul Bellow, and Norman Mailer. You might find it interesting what they had to say: www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/130315A taste of the responses is this one from Isaac Asimov about whether he consciously used symbolism: “Consciously? Heavens, no! Unconsciously? How can one avoid it?” Haven't gotten past the first question in the student's survey but the responses from the authors tend to support the searching for symbols in a creative work but that the symbols are often subconscious and a surprise even to the artist. That does not make them any less valid; as Mailer responded, "Generally, the best symbols in a novel are those you become aware of only after you finish the work.” So, over-analyze away. Didn't Q3 arrange a poll here in Atop? And Cuckoo and TP were the winners. Or was the poll somewhere else? I'm not sure. It was after Adam asked for fans' opinion. I thought Shady had won that poll... ??? It was here in Atop, in the Daily News subforum. By the way, Dyg, I forgot BTIKM. That's one of my favs too.  It has grown on me and now I sing along when driving. I drive a lot from Denia to Valencia and the fast ones really make the drive fun - I am dancing and singing out loud all the way  |

It has grown on me and now I sing along when driving. I drive a lot from Denia to Valencia and the fast ones really make the drive fun - I am dancing and singing out loud all the way lol Last time I came to Oviedo from Pamplona I was alone in the car, so I had the volume way up. I started singing along the songs... and after 3 hours singing the whole album (I had it on repeat) I kinda lost my voice. lol That's what I get for trying to do what Adam does with my horribly untrained voice. : : : : But it was fun. Gonna do it again this Sunday, when I drive back to Pamplona. ;D ;D ;D |

Albiku and DYg. My plans for June 2013 is to walk the Camino de Santiago from Pamplona to Santiago, Spain with my husband and son for one month. 354 miles and then if possible walk from Santiago to the sea (another 80 miles). For many it is a spiritual journey. I'm not sure what I am considering it yet. But the movie The Way inspired me, and I have had friends that have done it from from Lyon.
