Interesting Article (no Adam mention) Fans React as Billboard Changes Charts Formula New criteria seem to favor crossover pop hits on genre rankings
Read more: www.rollingstone.com/music/news/fans-react-as-billboard-changes-charts-formula-20121019#ixzz29mroSMi7By Steve Knopper ROLLING STONE October 19, 2012 5:25 PM ET In an attempt to present more accurate data, Billboard recently shook up its rock, country, hip-hop and Latin charts, resulting in broad pop stars such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Psy suddenly having more juice than their competitors. Fans of artists such as Carrie Underwood and Beyoncé did not take the news well: "Shame on you, Billboard!" wrote one commenter on the influential music-business magazine's website. "These are not the pop charts and this completely skews the formula to favor pop crossover hits." Billboard executives defend the new charts – which, as of last week, use Internet criteria such as download sales and streaming plays from Spotify, Rhapsody and others as well as traditional radio spins – as a broader picture of what makes a hit. "Are those of you upset about this rule change suggesting that what fans are streaming on Spotify or buying at iTunes doesn't count?" asked Bill Werde, the magazine's editorial director, via Tumblr. "Fans have the power today – more than they have ever had in the history of the recorded music business – and these chart changes honor that reality, above all else."....more ///

mys*&@^#r, that is such a cool story! they would have had to administer oxygen to me during the flight LOL. OT, but how the fuck did you know who Miss Arizona was? was she wearing a tiara?? ??? I had no idea who she was. She was very sweet and we had a nice conversation. She lives in AZ but went to college at Pepperdine, which is right down the road from me. As a matter of fact, she was flying to LA to go to her friend's wedding tomorrow in my city!! She was an excellent conversationalist and we talked about lots of things, her college major, my kids, stuff like that. We talked about my kids and their college majors and one of my kids works for Disney. He is a video game producer. So she mentioned that she is trying to break into "Broadcast Journalism" and does stories on the local Phoenix station. So I asked her what her name was and told her I would watch for her to "make it big" someday. LMAO now!!!!!!! Embarassing! So when I got home, I Googled her! OMG! So funny!!!!!!
