When I see people saying no matter how well Trespassing sells it will always be meaningful to them personally, it reminds me of all the albums that have meaning for me (this includes Trespassing), some big sellers, many not. It also reminds me that the music business is difficult and unpredictable. Here are some stats from Neilsen/Billboard about 2011:
• During 2011 there were 76,875 new albums released that sold at least one copy in the US. • Those new albums accounted for 113.2 million sales - or 34% of ALL album sales in the US for the entire year - The other 66% of sales in the US were albums released in previous years, many being classic albums from long ago. • The top 1,500 best selling new album releases out of that group of 76,875 accounted for over 100 million (nearly 90%) of the 113 million US sales generated by new releases in 2011. So 2% of the albums brought in 90% of the sales. • Of these new 76,875 new US releases only 46 sold 500,000 or more in the US in 2011. Those 46 albums are only a little over one-twentieth of a percent of the original 76,875. Only 11 of those 46 sold 1 million or more. Those 11 albums are only about one-seventieth of a percent of the original 76,875.
The music biz is really rough. All things combined over the past three years I think Adam is definitely in the top 2%, probably the top 1%, but not yet the very top of the 1%. (There are no stats for this-I'm estimating.) The top 2% begins with artists/bands who still have day jobs! Adam is doing very well!
And thanks to everyone who votes and requests and reminds and, thus, helps expand his success.
peace&love

I'm way late, but I had to laugh at Augenpoesie's "household rubber" story. Of course, I thought condom at first, but that does not go with 'household", so then maybe she means an eraser. Hmm? I'm glad she had a picture, because in Canada we usually call them elastic bands. Gummiband in German (rubber band), of course I understood what she meant, but at the same time it made me giggle like a teenager (even the parts are similar, a "Gummi" is a "rubber"). And if I ever meet Adam I will abolutely NOT be able to tell him what I will have prepared for days ... hmmm ... how about preparing to be silent?

so glad this was posted, over 185,ooo views now. A luker's confession: A lot of times I get lost in the convo and drama on this board (even if I mostly lurk) and make it important in my mind. So sometimes following a link to one of Adam's songs catches me unawares and makes me realise that THIS is what I enjoy!!!! The interaction between us all is very good and very necessary, but an infusion of ^^^ THIS ^^^ will get me going for days on end. And I've heard the songs before, but I really appreciate people infusing the thread with what is great repeatedly so that I don't have to go hunt my nonexistent archives for it. ahem .. long post ... Summary: Thanks for bringing back THE essential ingredient for me to enjoy this time ...

So never trust the Internet when looking for adequate and useful information ;D Here the translation was "Haushaltsgummi = household rubber"... Maybe in the UK???
