It ain't always fun, that is true. And it is not a matter of zoning in on pitch problems or off notes. It's not intentional. It's more like when you are trying to concentrate on your work, and a co-worker is loudly talking/arguing on the cell phone close by. You can't NOT hear it, no matter if you try to block out your awareness of it. And, yes, there are some times when it has ruined my enjoyment of an artist, including Adam. (Tho' with Adam that is rare, thank goodness.) I also find it painful to go to kids' music recitals and community music performances at times. So, you are right. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. It's true. I have a friend who loves showing me groups and singers she likes. Sometimes she gets annoyed, she says I'm too strict in my critizism. But seriously, I can't NOT notice if something's wrong or not good. And it totally spoils the enjoyment for me sometimes, just like you said. Thankfully, it's very rare with Adam. Very, very rare. The upside to this ability may be a heightened appreciation? Analogously a color blind person might not be bothered by colors that clash, but also wouldn't experience the richness that comes with seeing more colors. JMHO, etc. |
