Am the only one who thinks Adam would be more than fine with Atop today? Conversation. Honesty. Diversity. Expression. Personal growth. ....that thought crossed my mind too.

REMINDER -- The Adamtopia Guideline are very clear -- Members can disagree with someone's opinion but they cannot disagree with their right to hold that opinion.
I will be deleting every and all posts that discuss the right of someone to hold or discuss an opinion.
Regarding the "gayness" discussion -- unless you have something new to post that will enlighten or inform the Members of this forum, do not post. I will also be deleted posts that are repetitive -- meaning, if you posted it once, it is enough.
>> YOUR POST MAY VANISH WITHOUT COMMENT OR AN EMAIL FROM ME or ANOTHER MOD.
If you have something new to add, the general discussion, done in a respectful way is OK.
Finally, even if you think a post represents the most homophobic, offense view in the world, it will do more good to express an alternative opinion then to call the poster "homophobic" or "prudish". The only way to learn, is to listen and to share information with others. Personal acquisitions cause people to stop listening and start defending.

I want to take a minute to say "Bravo" and "Thank you" to all the AToppers who have lurked, read and/or participated in this deep-end discussion today. It wasn't anything close to rainbows and puppy dogs for me, and some posts made me cringe while others made me give a silent fist pump. Still others made me say, "WTF???" or "Hmmmmm." There were a number of times I thought about just closing out the page and coming back tomorrow, but, as a mod, I felt I needed to hang in there.
IMO, this is one of the most "difficult" discussions we have had in some time. We are all products of our culture, our families of origin and choice, our religious teachings, our environment, our experiences, our age, our own instincts and programming, and our own personal journeys. Some of these influences we recognize, others we don't, or don't yet. The idea that
a) being a fan of Adam has prompted us to consider the topic of sexual orientation and behavior as we may not have before,
b) we have this forum in which we are encouraged to discuss ideas large and small, significant and trivial,
c) we have such a diversity in our membership and all are welcome,
d) we all strive (to varying degrees of success) to understand and be understood with love and respect,
makes me very proud and impressed of this place and all of you.

SlapDash - I agree with you. My initial remark yesterday was a reaction to Fever as well. IMO Johnny goes really far out... I understand that the whole choreo for Fever was designed that way - the high heels is SA... But to me his (Johnny's) movements looked a bit out of place yesterday, a farce almost... Adam's sexuality feels "real", it is coming from within, it is his essence - totally different. This is a touchy subject. Does Johnny act "too gay"? I agree, Adam is more my style but Adam supports all styles on his stage. My guess is that Adam's response would be that there are many ways to be gay. He has stood against remarks people make saying he is ok because he is not overly afeminate in support for those that are. And you are all familiar with his exboyfriend, Cheeks?! (BTW, in Husbands, Cheeks has a great explaination of purposely living up to stereotypical overtly gay behavior). I think the clearly gay Fever was Adam pushing the bounderies of accepting homosexuality without glossing it over. I don't think it has anything to do with Adam pushing the bounderies of accepting homosexuality. Adam needs dancers and he didn't have time to audition them and Johnny's available. There're 3 gay guys on that stage, but only one that's too much! This reminded me of Nigel on SYTYCD, "you're a man, do not dance like a woman" LOL. However, Adam knows how Johhny dances ... so .. {shrug} Can we clone Terrence?

I've been reading & trying not to skim most of the comments here that started with critiques of Johnny's dance style. For those (not necessarily on this board) that feel gay is fine as long as it's not thrust in one's face (no pun intended), I recall Adam saying in an interview "But I have the heterosexual lifestyle thrust in MY face every time i turn on the TV."
I was on a group tour of Croatia & Slovenia in September. In our group were 6 gay men - a group of 4 and two traveling separately. Five of these six were very conservative in appearance and behavior. One was not. He was what some would call "flamboyant". One of the conservative gay men shared with me that he was embarrassed by this person because he was exactly the kind of homosexual that gives others a bad name. The sterotypical gay if you will. Then he found out this flamboyant gay was a well-respected dentist. His opinion changed completely.
Now I'm not even sure what my point was except that homosexuals can be very judgmental of other homosexuals if they don't adjust their persona to fit with the idea of the acceptable heterosexual image. That's why people like NPH are rarely the target of homophobic slurs.
I think a person can love & accept Adam (or NPH or Anderson Cooper or any number of straight-acting gays) and still be somewhat homophobic if they are uncomfortable with someone like Johnny or the gay man on my trip.
I'm not lecturing anyone - just giving my opinion as others have. Now I'm gonna press Post Reply & hope no one was offended. ETA - I just went back & watched Fever again thinking I may have missed something offensive since I'm always totally focused on Adam during these performances. Nope. Some more headache for you all, just sharing one interview about the subject. I was reading through the thread and what JazzRocks wrote is exactly what I wanted to say. Adam has talked about his struggles among the gay community, about the "cattiness". I don't think anything bad has been said in today's thread. Adam has said (below) that in LA the gay scene is very black and white. You are a top or you are a bottom and your identity is expected to be born from that sexual position. People are boxed into what gender they identify with more. Now, if even the gay community itself can be this black and white, no wonder why Atop is a mess today. ;D He talks about his sexuality and how the gay community sees him on this great interview with Sarin Moddle: Uploaded 15.10.2012 In the beginning and especially @10:00

I personally think Adam should have been worried about kneeling down in front of Aurea and then her putting her leg in between his knees! He should worrry about that backlash! Sure looked to me like they were getting ready for cunninglingus! ;D LOL.. Aaron Hicklin has learned his lesson, don't think he's going to give Adam a hard time this time around.. :4OMG:
