Adam Lambert Calls Natasha Bedingfield, Bootsy Collins, Iggy Azalea VH1 DIVAS Collab ‘F-ing Genius’

I wouldn’t be VH1 Divas week without a daily dose of this year’s host Adam Lambert. And guess what our fearless dance party maestro had to say when we told him Natasha Bedingfield, Iggy Azalea and Bootsy Collins are performing Deee-Lite‘s “Groove Is In The Heart” this Sunday? The only appropriate response: “That’s f***ing genius! I love that song!”
If it were up to me, Adam’s opinion about anything would be taken as law, because beneath that carefully coiffed mass of hair lurks a mastermind with perfect eyebrows. That said, we have journalistic integrity, so let’s back up Adam’s endorsement with some stats about the stars singing the middle school dance favorite.
Bootsy Collins “The Bass”: Mr. “Munchies For Your Love” (thank me later) actually slapped the famed bass line on the original back in 1990, so I’m sure he’ll be delivering as much funk in “Groove” more than 22 years later.
Iggy Azalea “The Flow”: T.I.‘s Grand Hustle protégé will be filling Q-Tip‘s shoes. Based on the Australian up-and-comer’s flow on “Murda Bizness” from her EP Glory, Iggy should deliver enough heart to do the A Tribe Called Quest legend justice. Plus, XXL already gave her a cred stamp by placing her on the 2012 Freshman Class cover back in February.
Natasha Bedingfield “The Voice”: I couldn’t ask for another counterpart for Lady Miss Kier‘s sassy vocals than the British singer-songwriter. Besides Natasha’s earworm skills (say thank you, The Hills cast and Emma Stone!), she’s got major pipes. See “Soulmate.” No wonder VH1 named her one of our 100 Greatest Women In Music.
Adam’s right. This performance is going to be f****ing genius. Catch it live Sunday, December 16 at 9PM/8C.
