I am not going to re-post all the quotes and I certainly don't want to spend all day talking about the AMA's but I will say this, I doubt that the AMA's would have had Adam perform in the pimp spot no less if he had "played it safe". I know many of you think it was a big mistake, I didn't think so. Also, Adam is quirky, "I'm a freak" as the song goes. He is, and always has, been true to himself and who he is. I don't want him to change that and I don't think he ever will. One of the best things about Adam is he never does anything the same way so we will always get something new from him, and that is exciting. He will never bore us with putting out the same type of material over and over again. I understand what you are saying, but Adam's AMA performance WAS NOT the rehearsed choreographed and approved performance. He added a few - uh - "touches" of his own that probably would have been best left undone - especially the finger at the end. He did say later that he got carried away by adrenalin and went too far. Ya think Adam? Water under the bridge, tho. 8-) ETA-Slapdash LaRue-what is the response at the feed store when you talk about Adam? ;D "God made Eve from Adam, not Steve from Adam!" I kid you not!

Welcome jo What a great first post! I had to bring it over from yesterday: "Okay, I don't like to post but this subject is very interesting and I wanted to give my two cents for whatever that's worth. As a diehard fan, I have all of Adam's music in various forms but what I tend to do is only listen to the Kiev concert over and over again. I rarely listened to either one of his albums. I think Adam's voice with the Queen music is otherwordly and I can't get enough. I've often gone over, in my head, what would have sent Adam into the stratosphere after idol and I do believe it would have happened had he done things right from the start. His first mistake was the AMA's and then the album cover. I think Adam was not realizing that his voice alone is what people wanted from him. I remember Barry Manilow saying that if he had just sat there (at the AMA's) and sang a great song (WWFM would have worked), he would have blown the roof off the place and I think he was right. If he had done that and tuhen followed with the voice front and center instead of the OT stuff being front and center, I think he would be huge right now. My humble opinion is that he did not rely on his voice as much as he did the OT look and actions to get people's attention. I think this was his biggest mistake from the beginning. His being gay certainly plays a role too but a lot of the OT in the beginning was all about the gay with the AMA's, the album cover, his GNT shows, etc. and I think it was just too much too soon for those people who still live in the dark ages, which is most of America, unfortunately. If he had taken it more slowly and built up to the more OT stuff gradually so people could more willingly accept that from him, I think it would be a different story for him right now. He would be huge because he is the most talented man I have ever seen in my lifetime and one of the most beautiful too." (for some reason, my "quoter" wouldn't work.) Anyway, I heartily agree 100% with your thoughts. I think Adam's launch was full of OOPS, especially the AMA performance and album cover, and his career would have been at a different place now had it been started differently. He did say in one interview that he had to get the feathers and glitter out of his system and he was ready for the next phase of his career. I think that becoming more "real" - I think that was his term - was that step and I think a good one. After he had his cry and downtime about the AMAs, and realizing the FYE cover was not the best idea, I think he has been working his cute little bum off to :-*turn things around and he is slowly succeeding. Maybe that unexpected and steeply uphill climb has made him stronger, as personal disasters in ones life can sometimes do. As Kelly Clarkson sings, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." heh. ;D I think he is much stronger for it and he surely is more gorgeous every day. [/IMG] Anyway, that was then and this is now, and he/we go on from here.
I guess, to keep it real and honest here, I will say up front that I don't agree with any of that. I am on the road and posting from McD's, so won't be able to rebut until maybe tonight. Just didn't want to delay. Midwifespal

The male crotch smooch did not disturb me and the finger was not shown on live TV, Adam got lucky there, that the camera was showing a different angle. It all worked out in the end for him, America has moved on, and his career is on an upswing and new trust is put in him as a host and performer, and it is happening even this weekend. He is and will be a successful artist, there is no question in my mind. His path may be a little more crooked since those days, but I am glad he "dares to dance in the path of greatness" You need to look for the close ups of the supposed "finger" because it never happened. There is video and photos that clearly show he grabbed the buckled strap under her crotch and did a "trolley pull" as Adam himself described it. There is one angle that looks like "the finger" and only one. The other pics show what actuallyy was going on.

I know that there are not so many country fans here, but I wanted to bring up Garth Brooks. Some of you might not know, but Garth Brooks is the best-selling album artist of the Soundscan era (1991-). And the the second biggest seller of all time, behind only Elvis Presley (The Beatles are third). His sales were astonishing. One of his albums is 21x platinum. He filled entire stadiums with his rock-style show, which included smashing guitars and flying. Brooks retired in 2001 because he was miserable. The point is not to get into Brooks's bio, but essentially he hated his own music. It turned out that what Brooks really wanted was to be a Dan Fogelberg style singer-songwriter. He tried to push the boundaries of what his fans would accept (particularly with the single "We Shall Be Free" in 1992, which included a call for gay rights). Over time Brooks developed an elaborate alter ego named Chris Gaines, a shaggy, soulful crooner. In 1999 he even released an album as Chris Gaines, to the utter bewilderment of his fans. Brooks now performs occasionally. This is the story of a clever, gifted man who had explosive success and finally had to flee from it. At least he had the sense to do it. For another example: visit the graveyard at Graceland. Country music in general ain't my cup of tea but I fucking loved Garth! He was beyond huge in the 90s! I went to his concerts a couple of times, what a showman! Beautifully said, woman!

what is the response at the feed store when you talk about Adam? "God made Eve from Adam, not Steve from Adam!" I kid you not! The answer to someone like that should be: Adam IS Steve, Steve was already there, he did not need to be created anymore. Ignorant folks : ETA: Just now seeing the news. I guess, I will focus on real life for a little. Yes this is sickening Now I know why mys*&@^#r wrote she wants to vomit. Such tragedy all around, what is happening, and is this right, one guy is at large and a few kids are missing, so this may not be over.

Last show was Nov 19th I am not a country fan either, but I love Garth. Fabulous songwriter! Saw him at Staples when he did the 6 shows as a benfit for the Ca fires a few years back. I was at the show that was live for TV. He did an incredible one hour show for TV. Then when the cameras were gone, did another hour for us. 30 minutes of that were acoustic. During that 30 min. he told us his biggest influence and the reason he went into music was.......... not a Country singer....... but Bob Seger! Since I am a big Seger fan, I loved that revealtion!!
