My favorite comment on this article is: Glad it was a Celeb that actually knows the musical, has professional voice training and isn't afraid to tell the Emperors that they are naked. I was so hoping that this would be the definitive movie of Les Miz. I really don't care how pretty the actors are or how much money they make. I wanted a cinematic opera that did the material justice for all eternity.

I've know Jackman as a musical theater singer, but I'm not seeing anything about opera as a glance through a couple bios. Can you tell us more.
I think an unusual thing about Adam's critique is that people in the business do not usually diss other people in the business. They leave that to the critiques. There is a risk that goes with expressing a negative opinion (one he seems to accept) in that people will say "sour grapes," etc. Going back to your post holst... I was surprised that he would post such a public statement especially as he is so supportive and positive...wondering why ?
I just telephoned my daughter and my SIL mentioned that Adam had caused a bit of a stir about something. The last time he instigated a mention was about the fisticuffs in Finland :(. In talking to him, I mentioned how Adam is usually the person who pimps other people and began to wonder if perhaps, in his usual manner of speaking on behalf of his friends, he was just upset that none of his really talented colleagues ever get such a chance and that was what prompted his tweets :-/. It would be far more in keeping with BB as we know him to be thinking "**** could have slaughtered that!" Harking back to something earlier (slightly OT). The anniversary show of the best of the best of Les Mis was mentioned. In the international line-up of Jean Valjean's, the Brits were represented by a guy called Phil Cavill. He played the part in the West End for 4 years until, after having a motorcycle accident and smashing his leg, he couldn't sustain the rigorous schedule anymore. My other SIL, who's seen LM (14 times and rated him as the best he ever saw) discovered that he (Phil) now regularly sings in a pub local to us on most Saturdays. We had dinner there and then moved out to the main room where, sure enough, there he was. It was amazing being that close to that theatrical voice in the small space. It just resonated! He sat and talked to us for quite a while, telling us about the choices he'd made, and then during request time sang for me the song I'd always wished my ex (or any other suitable candidate) might have requested for me (fat chance!) My favorite: the Commodores Three times a lady . It took my daughter to ask but at least it was sung by a worthy voice. When I see vids of some of those small acoustic sessions with Adam, I imagine the voice filling the room in much the same way. More [/IMG] . ETA: I found a vid of him singing in the pub! He's funny. www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-tvdUBE0Zc

In actual fact the only people Adam actually "dissed" were the casting directors and TPTB on the film. A performer can give their best possible performance in a role but if they are not suited to the role in the first place it can still be bad. Adam specifically called out the casting and praised the performers he was impressed by. The problem is these days is as Jack Nicholson said people "can't handle the truth". There is a difference between a critique and an personal insult and what Adam did was critique.

I don't understand why people think that Adam is dissing anyone with his comments. He praised their acting. He endorsed going to the movie. He didn't think their singing was up to par for that musical. Why is that a "dis" if it is true? But he didn't just say "their singing wasn't up to par", he said they were pretending to be singers. That's a diss imo
