Help me learn some English worlds please. I posted yesterday, but I don't think any one noticed it.
- What is the equivalent English word that indicates the fashion style that looks shabby (for example torn, faded jeans), but still edgy. (this is the word Vietnamese press described Adam's airport fashion style)
- what is the English word that describes something strange, weird, over the top but in a positive way? (this is how they refer to Adam's performance style)
There are more, but they are off my head right now. I will ask later. Hope mods don't mind.
Thank you.

its' hard. If I have to translate into Vietnamese, I can only find words with either meaning, can't find any with double meaning.

The two words that come to my mind are "grunge" for the shabby but edgy look, and "flamboyant" for the weird, over-the-top performance style. I may be totally out of it, though--maybe "these kids today" wouldn't be caught dead using the word "grunge."

Those are really hard questions --- On the fashion word -- it depends on the overall style of the wearer. But faded, ripped jeans in the US would probably just be labeled casual because it is so common. There might be a reference to ripped jeans and/or faded denim. If done by a major designer, it might be labeled "destroyed". If done by a ready to wear line, often labeled "distressed". If real worn apparel, that is authentically worn out jeans, they are labeled vintage. (Not Adam's style, and only cool if they were worn out by someone else.) Adam most often has clothing that are "destroyed" or "distressed" and a few items that are "deconstructed" (the black jacket with the frayed edge seams and ripped hem.) In general, the style is on the way out. And being replaced by some very odd fashion trends like "Grandpa" style and neo-60's fashion looks. *** - what is the English word that describes something strange, weird, over the top but in a positive way? (this is how they refer to Adam's performance style)There is no exact English word I can come up with -- words that come to mind are flamboyant, theatrical, brilliant, camp, dazzling, glam/glamorous to cover the OTT part. A US reviewer would probably use a phase to communicate this idea. "Rarely seen flamboyance". Perhaps someone more literate than me can come up with that word.
