Thanks for your Sunday essay, Holst:))) Okay, this is re Holst's post and I'm consciously taking the risk of outing myself as a ... whatever the opposite of vocal connoisseur is... Here are the pop rock male voices (in 80s, 90s) which I love, a lot, and their music. (Bowie not included, Adam and he are in a league of their own): Anthony Kiedis, RHCP Axl Rose, G'N'R Brett Anderson, Suede Thom Yorke, Radiohead Damon Albarn, Blur, Gorillaz Kurt Cobain, Nirvana Richard Ashcroft, The Verve Mike Patton, Faith No More Michael Hutchence, INXS Michael Stipe, REM etc... Mmmm great list! Kiedis has never been the most gifted singer but there's something about his tone and delivery that really grabs me. Some of my faves and some links Steve Perry ( link ) Johnny Gioeli ( link ) Mark Boals ( link ) David Coverdale ( link )

holst - great post! As someone who values the SINGING ability as first and formost I can really appreciate the difficulty of relating to almost anything "valued" today. Interestingly I discovered that I LOVE electronic sound (I think it links into my scifi passion), so I am OK when there is as little singing as possible but lots of background electro sound (THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ADAM though). I do like a lot of pop music but for me, it is all about the rhythm and dancing. Now really bad singing (i.e. most autotune) can ruin it for me, even if the groove is great. There was a big backlash after the disco era when it did not seem as "cool" to want to dance to music and popular music kind of lost me. And nica, I love electronic music as well. The Benny Benassi remix of Trespassing is amazing - great singing, great electronics, and great dancing groove.

Also, you can click the middle button on your mouse (I always think of it as the clitoris , because that's kinda what it looks like!) and it will open the link in a new tab. Goodness (blushing). I've been mouse-less for years. I don't think I'd know how to work a computer without a mouse! (Blushing twice as red as you.)

cheriemelissa, please be patient - there will be someone who can help! I love your avi and it would be a great loss if you changed it. lynne, might that link be tinypic.com ? I have saved the bookmark but never used it. It seems that it has pre-designed sizes to choose from, their avi size is 100x75 which is smaller than here now (150x150). That link has video and url possibility, too, but I couldn't figure out how it works... That might have been it!

C'mon, he is acting - I think. Just starting anyway. No sweat at all, look at his face colour - and not really out of breath. Or maybe I missed it all and need to rewatch it...??? Yes, he's acting. He's being a dork. But I do look like that when I exercise, that's what I meant. I do think he was a little out of breath, though; I don't think he was just starting. And the sweating thing, I don't know if he was sweating, I meant it as a figure of speech... But well, broken English, you know. lol He was out of breath. ya know, when u finish running during the cool-down. He sounded tired although he was acting a bit making it look more painful than it actually was. The sweating thing. I don't sweat too much on my face even after 8 or 10 miles of running. So, my take is he finished running and was cooling down

Thank you holst and cassie! I find that overall the standard of musicianship both for vocals and instrumental music has noticeably declined. Of course there are exceptions. There were always manufactured acts for teens but finding those acts front and center all the time is what seems different to me since I "returned" to pop music. Like you, I find Adam the outlier in my music collection and that, for the most part, I have not been "turned on" to other pop acts.

Disclaimer: You sweat according to how yr body functions. It is not an indication how fit you are.
