WeAreFamilyFdn just exceeded $28,000. Should be no trouble hitting $31,000 by tomorrow I would think. Yay.

nationalglampoon, my real advice (bad joke gone)From your posts and tweets, you seem to have a wonderful mom. Lean on her. Lean on us, we can usually be calm "sounding boards." I know you are very special to many of us here. Accept our love! This is a very wise post. May I just say DITTO. Yes, I agree. A very wise post. Nationalglampoon love to you.

General post about an article I read today: I think of much of our society as demonstrating a wide spectrum of opinions on all matters LGBT. I think that in most cases progress is not made by changing one hater into a supporter, even though that would be nice of course, but a lot of change is made by shifting everybody in society a little bit. That is, if there were a scale from minus 100 (total homophobe) to plus 100 (total support) and our whole population could somehow be graphed at somewhere on that slide, then if we move everybody a few points over to the right (+), then we will see a lot of change. In fact, I think that is exactly what has happened in the US over the last 4 years. This country as a whole has made a shift to the + side. People who were total haters are not quite so sure anymore and therefore less vocal, people who were somewhat neutral have become more positive and less fearful, people who were pro, but silent have become outspoken. Many of us here know that they have moved somewhat or even a lot along this scale, all because of Adam. This is a story in the Huffington Post today about somebody who has moved over to the side of reason, coming from a very antagonistic position. No he is not yet where we probably would want him to be, but progress was made. We have talked about Chick-Fil-A here quite a bit, so I am bringing this article over. Here is a story of progress, however limited, but progress never the less. And a story of engagement and tolerance by one person in bringing this about. www.huffingtonpost.com/shane-l-windmeyer/dan-cathy-chick-fil-a_b_2564379.html?utm_hp_ref=twThe article is worth a read. Dan has not become completely converted, but many things were achieved: a) Funds are not flowing to hate campaigns anymore b) Funds are flowing to positive organizations, helping somebody in need, maybe even occasionally someone, who previously would have been targeted c) The experience has probably changed Dan in such way, that should he now encounter somebody gay in either family, circle of friends, neighborhood or work, he will not be outright hateful, but will have turned from boisterously convinced that he is right, to somebody who is in the process of developing his opinion. I think this is huge progress and will help many and if this kind of thing can happen everywhere, we will overcome. Kudos to both parties involved.
