cassie - thank you for putting my thoughts about the band and Adam last night into better words than I could likely find! As much as I love the band Adam has around him, hearing him with seasoned professionals was really refreshing.
That being said, I love Ashley, I think she is the best bass player so far, and I rather like Tommy Joe better on guitar than on bass! I think this is because Tommy Joe likes playing guitar better than he likes playing bass. And he is improving! I think the more opportunities he gets to do solos and improv, the better the show is.
It's all good.

Last night (January 31, 2013), Adam Lambert performed and received and award at the 2013 We Are Family Foundation Gala at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Lambert was presented with a Unity Award, during last night’s event. www.gigwise.com/news/79275/video-adam-lambert-performs-with-sam-sparro-and-nile-rodgersVIDEO: ADAM LAMBERT PERFORMS WITH SAM SPARRO AND NILE RODGERSSinger performs album collaboration track 'Shady'Adam Lambert joined forces with Sam Sparro and Nile Rodgers last night, at the We Are Family Foundation concert. Watch a video of the performance below.
The trio collaborated on Adam's song 'Shady' for his album Trespassing, but they've never all performed it live together - until now. Adam was presented with the Unity award at the We Are Family Foundation's Celebration gala at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, and soon after performed 'Shady' with Nile, Sam and Nile's band CHIC. Nile had previously described recording the track as "one of the most organically perfect jams I've had since Bowie," and seemed toenjoy performing it live.
...and Virg's Shady..

Regarding the band with Adam last night. We expected them to sound AMAZING, right? Isn't that one of the reasons we were so excited for Adam to sing with them? To sing with world class musicians? Nile has also been writing, producing, and arranging songs for decades, for the best in the business. I expected the arrangements of the songs to be fantastic. What's wrong with people going crazy for how incredible they sounded? It's not a diss towards Adam's band members. It is just reality. ... except that some people really are using this to diss the band in a very nasty and hateful way. The band haters are having a field day, that's for sure. B-| Anyway, Cassie, what did you think of the vocals? I thought he sounded incredible. Meh. The vocals were okay.........NOT! He sounds fantastic! You would think it would get to seem commonplace, since when do the vocals NOT sound great? But, he can still amaze me. Some great high notes that are his signature and bring out the screams and head shakes from everyone. But, it is his TONE that takes my breath away. I know that Sam's mic was not working at the beginning of Let's Dance. But, even after, I was struck by the difference in the voices. I have noticed with Sam and with the Queenbert concerts a huge difference in the tone of Adam's voice and others. At first in Kiev with that Victor guy I thought his mic was set wrong. Then, I noticed it with Roger and Brian when they sang in each concert. And Sam in this one. At first I thought, "The sound guy must have the mics all set to 'Adam standard' so that they don't pick up the other voices well." But since I have heard the phenomenon repeated so many times, and since it wouldn't make sense not to adjust the mics for each individual singer, I have come to the conclusion that the resonance, richness, and ring in Adam's voice makes it stand out like no others. It is there whenever he sings, but I notice it all the more in contrast to the other singers on the same stage, with the same equipment and the same sound engineer. Even four years later, it boggles my mind. No matter what style he sings, what tempo, what range, that resonance and presence and beauty is there. It underlies every genre he sings. It seems effortless (tho' in reality it takes a LOT of technique). It sets him apart from other singers for me. As does his remarkable control. His voice is so consistent from note to note, phrase to phrase, fast or slow, at the top, in the middle and at the lower end of his range. With many singers we can tell it is live because of the less than perfect sound, the inconsistencies in strength or tone, the occasional bobbles or missed notes, the muddiness of some lyrics and phrases. This is where Adam's technique really serves him well. And where people think he must be lip syncing, because it sounds "too perfect." The consistent excellence of Adam's delivery sets a standard that, IMO, no other pop singer today can reach. So, yeah, I enjoyed his singing. (do we have a smiley for humorous understatement?)
