This thread is some basic information about how to use the Adamtopia forum and make great posts.
INSERTING IMAGES
I have been getting some questions about how to insert images, so I put this explanation together:
There are 3 easy ways to add an image to a post on ATop. In all three cases, the images must be on the web somewhere to show up here.
YOU CANNOT JUST COPY A PICTURE FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND PASTE IT HERE.
1. ADD AN ATTACHMENT
1. Click on ADD ATTACHMENT button in the upper right.
2. The click on + Add Files button. Select 1 to 3 files from your computer. 1 MB max per attachment. Then hit the Insert button.
3. Attachments will be inserted in your post where your cursor is OR if your cursor is not in the reply box to the end of your post at the time you post it. (example broccoli smiley was posted now at then end of this post).
4. If you want to delete the image, right click on the image, it will turn blue/highlight and you can delete it or you can delete the file .
5. If you want to add more images, hit EDIT ATTACHMENTS and the + Add Files button. Then hit the Insert button.
6. You can also Insert the same image on the pop-up to get multiple copies. It will be the same as the original uploaded image.
2. COPY AN IMAGE FROM A WEBSITE
If you image is already on the web, you can just copy the address and paste it here. (Will not work for Instagram and other services that block copying or do not have the images hosted on the web.
Hit REPLY -- not QUICK REPLY. This will give you a formatting menu with a lot of buttons. Very easy to use
You need the link for where the picture is online. If you have a 2-button mouse, click on the picture online with the right button. It will be an internet address like this -- usually ends in .jpg .png or .gif
Paste the name of the image in the box after "Image URL:".
Then hit the "Insert Image" button.
Your picture will appear.
The internet address in blue (above) is the address for the button with the photo on it -- the insert image button.
>> If you want to post an image from Instagram here, you need to view the source code and find the image name OR you can put a copy of the image in an online photo gallery. See option 3 (next section)
3. UPLOAD IT FROM A PHOTO SITE
If the image is in Photobucket, Image Shack OR on any website, you can use the ATop Replay Toolbar. Click on the INSERT IMAGE button --6th button from the right, picture of a sunset.
A box will pop up. Just post the URL in the space that says http:// **** a few things that are causing problems ****
1. When you post your post, you will see the code before the post appears with the image. If your connection is slow, just wait. 2. You cannot copy and post a picture from your computer. If you copy an image from your computer and paste it in the reply box, it will show up on preview BUT it will vanish when you post because the image MUST HAVE A WEB ADDRESS ASSOCIATED WITH IT. You can upload it to the Adamtopia server and do not need to use a third party service to so this. This is the first method listed -- ADD ATTACHMENT.
3. Posting images with invalid file names. This is a problem with photos from Twitter sometimes.
You cannot post a Twitter large image URL -- example filename = /photo/1 OR if you just save it with the default file name = BCxca1fCEAAMCwY.png large
You can attach an image like this, but it will just post a link to it. Here is file name = BCxca1fCEAAMCwY.png large
In this case, you can fix the extension so it is .png (use rename on your computer) then you can upload it. And you will get this.

Hi Everyone,
This is Russ at Photobucket. I am part of our Community Outreach Team and my job is to make sure that your forum is the best it can be. I have noticed several posts asking how to use Photobucket to store and link images to this forum. I created this easy to follow tutorial as an up-to-date reference; I hope it is helpful.
Most forums require you to link to images that are stored somewhere else on the web. This “somewhere else” is where Photobucket comes in. Photobucket is a site that will host your images for free, and allow you to grab the image’s linking information with just one click. It’s that easy.
Step number one: Open your Photobucket account or register for a free Photobucket account here.
Step number two: Upload your photos to your new Photobucket account.
Step number three: Post your photo into a forum thread. There are two ways to do this, and with Photobucket, they only require one click apiece.
The first way is to use the “Insert Photo” button in the toolbar when you create a new thread or response. First, find the photo on Photobucket in a new tab or window, locate the “Links to share this photo” box to the right of the image, and simply click on the bottom option, labeled “Direct”. Photobucket automatically copies the code for you, so there’s no need to right click and select copy from a menu. Next, open a new thread or response in the forum and click on the Insert Image button. A new dialogue box will appear asking you to enter the URL address for the photo. Simply paste the info you grabbed from Photobucket into the dialogue box and you’re done. Easy.
The other way to post a photo is to skip the Insert Photo button and just use the BBCode, or IMG Code. Find the photo on Photobucket that you want to link to. Then, in the “Links to share this photo” box to the right of the photo, simply click on the third option from the top, labeled “IMG”. This is already written in the BBCode your forum requires, so just paste it right into the text of the thread you are creating, and presto!
Some of you have also been asking about resizing your images. You can resize your photos before you upload them to Photobucket, or you can do it right from your Library. 1. Select “Edit” from the top menu, then click the photo you want to resize. Additionally, from your Library view you can hover over the thumbnail of the photo you want till the gear icon appears. Click the gear and select “Edit” from the drop down menu. 2. Click the “Resize” button 3. Make sure the lock icon is selected to constrain proportions and enter the new height or width you want and click “Apply” 4. The next screen will ask you to save. Below the save button is a box labeled “Replace Original”. If you leave this box empty, a duplicate will be created in the new size and will need to be renamed. If you check this box, the original will be replaced by the newly resized image.
I hope that helps. If you have any questions or feedback on what would make your photo hosting experience better, please send it my way.

If you can give me specific things that you don't like or don't work properly then I can bring it up with our product development team. Please also let me know which browser and browser version you are using. Thanks, Russ
Russ, I'm using Google Chrome. Version 29.0.1547.76m <------ I have a green checkmark beside this, telling me my version is up to date.
You asked if there are "specific things that you don't like or don't work properly" and I've compiled an initial list. I'm quite sure everything in PB is working just fine by photobucket standards, so these are the things that have driven me crazy ever since photobucket switched formats many months ago. In the past, I have communicated back and forth with PB "help people", but they can't help me.
1) First of all, where is the “view all” function? Is it hidden somewhere?
2) Ever since the drastic change in format, it has been hugely TIME CONSUMING to find images.
I have a lot of albums, and some of them have 300-400 images. In the old PB format, each row on my screen consisted of 5 images. I could instantly see between 20-25 pictures at a time on my screen and, with the “view all” function, I could scroll down through 200-400 images fairly quickly. With the new PB, my pictures now are displayed in a narrow strip, 3 wide, down the middle of my screen, and there is no “view all” function anywhere that I can see. I have to keep clicking to the next page, over and over and over again.
Here is what I see when I open one of my albums:
If I scroll down just a tiny bit, I can sort of see three more images, although they're cut off:
As you can see, there is a huge amount of wasted blank space on either side of my screen... more than enough space for 2-3 more images in a row.
Do you know how long it takes to find one particular image when you have 400 pics in an album and there are only 9-12 (max) pictures displayed on my screen and there is no "view-all" function?
A PB “help” person told me the only solution was to zoom down in order to see more images on my screen. So, to get more images displayed, I tried zooming down a lot. At 50% I could actually get as many as 24 pics on my screen, but the images are so tiny they're pretty much impossible to see, and I can barely make out the names of my albums over on the left side. Zooming out to get more pics displayed does nothing but give me a headache and severe eye strain.
3) And speaking of my list of albums over on the left… in the old PB, I could see all my sub-albums at a glance. Now I cannot see any sub-albums at all… There are only tiny triangles to tell me that a particular main album has sub-albums. I never remember off the top of my head which sub-albums are found under main albums, so I end up having to click on multiple albums/multiple triangles just to find the sub-album I’m looking for. This is very time consuming and frustrating. And the triangles are extremely tiny to begin with, and when I tried zooming out to get more pics on my screen, the triangles virtually disappeared entirely.
Am I missing something? Is there any “button” I can push that lets me automatically display ALL my albums at one time?
4) And in Edit mode: After I've edited a pic, where is the “replace” button if I don't want to save the original? I have major complaints about stuff in editing mode, too, but I'll save that for another day.
5) And in the old PB, there was a very handy function where I could click on a button and it would instantly tell me the size and dimensions of my image---> e.g., 235kb, 547x335 Now, it appears that that wonderfully convenient function is gone. Now there is something called “Media info”, but it gives exactly zero info.

Thanks, Seoulmate. This feedback is great. I've gone back and used the site with your suggestions in mind and they have a lot of merit. I will bring this to the attention of our product development team. Thanks, Russ

Dumb question, I know - but how do I send a Personal Message to a member? I've received a few PM's, but I don't know how to initiate one. - Thanks for any help

Click on "messages" up at the top beside "profile" etc.,..then click "create message" located at the top right.
Add your subject and the person's user name....
OR (easier) just click on their name in their avi and you'll open their profile page where you'll see a "send message" to the right.

hope someone can help. I am using an ipad since I am sort of technically challenged and as of the last couple of days, I am unable to view all the wonderful videos posted by members.
SIMPLER method to post a VINE video: 1. RIGHT CLICK on the video, choose OPEN VIDEO IN A NEW TAB
2. From the NEW TAB, COPY the URL line from the start (https.... up to .mp4 only). Disregard anything after mp4.
3. PASTE the line that you copy to your POST .... you don't need the VIDEO ICON ....
SAMPLE:(I have to put a space between "h and ttps" so it doesn't load 2 videos ... just to show you the line I copied ) h ttps://mtc.cdn.vine.co/r/videos/7DE119527B1165901911598243840_33a43dab18a.1.5.16619029690961292683.mp4
If SIMPLER method above does not work... here's another method... POSTING a VINE Video
1. RIGHT CLICK on the video 2. Choose INSPECT ELEMENT on the pop-up menu. 3. The whole video line will be automatically highlighted. You cannot isolate a line so copy/paste the whole highlighted section (if you cant copy with your mouse, press CONTROL+C to copy and paste (or CONTROL+V). Isolate the https line that ends with mp4. See sample below.
4. Click on the VIDEO icon (same process you do with You Tube URL) and paste the line (see underlined section above) and PASTE, then click on INSERT Video.
5. DELETE the whole section you copied originally (TEXT = quoted section in #3) or you will get 2 videos with a messy text embedded with it.
