www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HsGELKLwXM...... Balboa park Adam and Sauli visited a while back..this is the same song danced to around the world.. We danced to this at the YMCA this morning.. it was GREAT What a great cause, I wish I lived in a bigger area where I could be a part of this. My friend, Judy, was beaten to death with a baseball bat by her estranged husband in May 1995. He waited until she took their daughter to daycare and then broke down her door and beat her to death. She was on the phone with a friend who lived in another state, but yelled his name and screamed, then he hung up the phone. The friend called the local 911 and told them her address. She was barely alive when police got there and took her to the hospital. They put her on life support, but later that evening she was declared brain dead and the family took her off life support. Her and her daughter had stayed with my family after he had threatened her about a month before. She thought everthing was going to be okay and that he wouldn't hurt her after they had a court date so they moved back to their apartment. Two weeks later she was dead. I had to testify at his trial and he received a life sentence; however, in Texas they get "good time" if they behave in prison and he is already out of prison. Makes me sick to think about it. Their daughter was only 5-years-old when Judy died and he signed away his parental rights to her family. I have lost touch with her Mom since I moved, but I think of Judy often. Love this video and the movement behind it. I learned a lot about the justice system in Texas when she died. Even though he broke down her door it was not considered breaking and entering, because they were still legally married and even though she had moved out of their home and gotten this apartment on her own, it was still considered his home too, because the divorce was not final yet! That is why he couldn't be charged with capital murder with a better chance at being kept in prison longer. It's like women are owne by the men they marry until the ink is dry on a divorce decree. Just a very ugly story all around.

lulu, that is horrible about your friend. aleks -- From the original (JM Barrie) Peter flung out his arms. There were no children there, and it was night time; but he addressed all who might be dreaming of the Neverland, and who were therefore nearer to him than you think: boys and girls in their nighties, and naked papooses in their baskets hung from trees.
"Do you believe?" he cried.
Tink sat up in bed almost briskly to listen to her fate. She fancied she heard answers in the affirmative, and then again she wasn't sure.
"What do you think?" she asked Peter.
"If you believe," he shouted to them, "clap your hands; don't let Tink die."
Many clapped.
Some didn't.
A few beasts hissed.
The clapping stopped suddenly; as if countless mothers had rushed to their nurseries to see what on earth was happening; but already Tink was saved. First her voice grew strong, then she popped out of bed, then she was flashing through the room more merry and impudent than ever. She never thought of thanking those who believed, but she would have like to get at the ones who had hissed.

When he woke me up this morning with this tweet, my not-working-on-all-cylinders brain thought that 'homies' meant homosexuals. I was for a while, why can't he wish a happy Valentine to me, a straight person... I kept pondering about that , on and off, for the unbelievable next 4 hours ( I know!) until , in the middle of work, I realized it might mean something slightly different, lol. I googled it eventually:) ETA// The morals of the story would be that my brain never works on all cylinders, duh:) ETA2// I can't find that poem Juniemoon wrote! I wanted to quote it, it's brilliant:) Oh sweetie! [laughs and hugs at the same time] This is *so* funny b/c the word "homie" is SUCH an American slang phrase, that I never considered how badly it could be misconstrued by someone whose first language isn't English!! The word "homie" makes absolutely no sense unless you know that it comes from the urban phrase "homeboy", which also makes no sense if one isn't familiar with the concept of the urban "hood" (aka neighborhood) from which "boy from my home turf" arises! [grins wryly] Its actually a bit of a gang term that's been assimilated into common usage. Sometimes a common term is utterly nonsensical unless you know the history behind it. [snorts] Not understanding slang expressions is a two-way street though, and it often also makes no sense when foreign phrases are attempted to be turned into English. Being an American, I had to get someone to explain to me the other day what on earth "blaming the Shin-Gimmel" meant in Israeli politics. Its actually kinda funny, in an ironic way. Pretty good explanation here: forward.com/articles/170634/lowliest-guards-on-the-israeli-totem-pole/ May use it myself in the future. [tries to engage at least one more cylinder to the one currently working] [operation fails. the only one working dies a sad death, too] So Adam wanted to say that they live together?

Lulu so sorry for the tragic loss of your friend. One Billion Rising gives hope that worldwide awareness of brutality toward women with help initiate legal action world wide to end this abuse.

Over-invested fan who is underinvested in love life here. I'm happy he's on my TV first thing tomorrow! I keep checking to make sure it's set to record. That's kind of crazy huh?
