Only indigenous people or those who some have indigenous blood call themselves "Hawaiian" in Hawaii, out of respect to the original people. The rest of us are "Hawaii residents" or "island residents"... it sounds strange to most of you, I know, but that's just the way it is. Mars is a former "Hawaii resident." He is definitely local, with family here. Ethnicity is all mixed up in Hawaii and people like listing their nationalities-- the more the better. Sorry... got a little carried away with my Hawaii tutorial... lol. |
