Adam wants to be an Idol judge. So hmmmmmm....
5.21.13 by Q3
I am suspending my rational side. I really do not care about logic. Adam wants to be an Idol judge. We know he would be absolutely great at it. So WTF!?! Let’s put together a demonstration of how great a judge Adam will be based on his past comments. So here is the challenge, post any of the following in today’s news thread:
1. Post comments Adam has made about Idol contestants on Twitter, video, interviews, wherever.
2. Post comments Adam has made about being an Idol judge on Twitter, video, interviews, wherever.
3. Any pithy comments Adam has made as a judge or a critic that demonstrate he would be a frank, knowledgeable, and fun Idol judge.
I will collect all the posts and create a special demonstration of how Adam is the perfect judge for American Idol.
Let the game begin!!
Adam Lambert Wants to Judge ‘American Idol’ – And If They’re Smart, They’ll Hire Him
by Cassandra Rose May 20, 2013 10:00 AM
With whispers that the entire ‘American Idol‘ panel is set to be axed for Season 13, rampant speculation has begun about who should take over to save the sinking ship that is the ‘Idol’ ratings.
One such person who’d like one of the vacant slots? Our imaginary bestie Adam Lambert.
Lambert was back on the ‘Idol’ set to perform alongside former contestant Angie Miller when he was asked if he’d consider filling a judge’s chair.
The charismatic singer responded, “Dude, if they called me I’d be like, ‘YEAH! … Where do I sign?’ … It would be a cool opportunity to help people coming into the show and help them keep their vision focused because it does become very overwhelming.”
“To help them reach their dreams, that would be such a reward,” he concluded.
Those sentiments echoed the ones he gave the Hollywood Reporter, which asked the same “would you become a judge?” question earlier that night.
So it’s clear Adam would love a panelist gig on ‘Idol,’ and if the producers are smart, they’ll let him have it — not only to mark history (it would be the first time that an ‘Idol’ contestant has ever become a judge) but because he’d be good at it. The guy has a famously huge heart, so we have no doubt he’d be a compassionate — but honest — judge.
Also … man oh man, have you seen how much Adam’s fans adore him? Put him on the air every week and watch those ratings go through the roof.

Celebrities and influencers can help take a business to the next level
Erin Bury | 13/05/20 | Last Updated: 13/05/20 3:14 PM ET
From Michael Jordan promoting Nike products in the 1980s and ’90s, to Alicia Keys becoming BlackBerry ‘s brand ambassador, companies have long tried to tap into a celebrity’s fan base to help them sell more products and reach a larger audience. And while larger brands have the marketing budget to bring on big-name stars as official spokespeople, small businesses often can’t afford endorsement deals.
But increasingly web startups are finding a way to tap into the power of celebrity: getting them on board as users to bring their millions of fans on to their networks. This new type of endorsement usually doesn’t require paid promotion, and often happens organically as celebrities look for the next app that will help them connect with fans.
Twitter was one of the first networks to see celebrities build millions of followers, and now stars such as Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga have almost 40 million followers each. Investor Warren Buffet reportedly gained more than 1,000 followers a minute after he joined the service in early May, and he now has almost 500,000 followers. Celebrities have also embraced photo-sharing app Instagram, where singer Taylor Swift has more than five million followers, and Facebook, where Fast & Furious actor Vin Diesel has more than 41 million fans.
Celebrity is also working for Toronto startup Wattpad, an online marketplace for authors and readers, that features more than 10 million free books and stories. Wattpad has raised more than $20-million in financing to date, and has more than 15 million monthly unique users and 500 authors using the platform. Among them are award-winners including Canadian author Margaret Atwood, who joined the service in June 2012 and has since posted collections of poems and other works, and has a been a vocal supporter of the platform.
“Margaret and I were introduced a couple of years ago and she immediately understood and embraced our vision,” co-founder Allen Lau said. “It was a natural connection and now she’s a very active user interacting with fans from all over the world.”
Aside from Atwood, whose collection of poems has been read 150,000 times on the platform, Wattpad counts authors such as Paulo Coelho as users. For readers who might be a bit too young to appreciate The Alchemist, Wattpad partnered with Sony Music to release an official fan fiction story about the popular British boy band One Direction. That story has been read in excess of two million times to date, but Mr. Lau said the impact it had on new authors has been the most important result, with more than 100,000 new fan fiction stories written by fans of the band.
“The fans created an entire longtail ecosystem of content expressing love for the band. These stories now have hundreds of millions of reads,” Lau said. “This kind of thing has real marketing potential.”
In addition to its millions of members, Toronto startup Keek, a video-sharing site that lets people upload and share 36-second clips, also has several celebrity users on board, including Kim Kardashian, who has nearly 1.4 million followers. The company is adding more than 250,000 new users daily, with five million plus videos posted to the network every month.
Isaac Raichyk, chief executive of Keek, said that 22% of all videos watched are celebrity content, and that the company hasn’t made an effort to reach out to stars, it’s happened organically.
“We are seeing tons of new celebrities joining daily because Keek is a powerful new way to stay connected,” he said, adding that celebrities such as American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert are now Keek users. “This provides a unique experience for the Keek community. Users are thrilled to be able to have a more personal and direct dialog.”
While “citizen influencers” are on the rise, celebrity culture is more powerful than ever, said Mark Schaefer, author of Return on Influence, a book about how average internet users are becoming as influential as celebrities thanks to social media.
At least 25 years ago, you could only be a celebrity if you achieved something. Now, the goal may just be getting to be known, Mr. Schaefer said. “I think the access to celebrities and their daily lives makes them even more powerful in the media.”
However, for companies that don’t have a large marketing budget, he said, pursuing citizen influencers is often easier than trying to get star users, and one passionate user can often have a lot of impact.
“A celebrity influencer can do a lot for awareness and reach for a brand but a true, passionate advocate might have an even greater role in the purchasing decision, even if they only have a small audience,” Mr. Schaefer said.
While Keek’s Mr. Raichyk said celebrities have flocked to his service, Mr. Lau said his advice for small businesses looking to attract star users is to remember that you’re providing a direct channel to their readers, fans, or audience.
“It is all about remaining genuine,” he said.
“We see value flowing both ways for the folks we’re working with. At the end of the day it is the product, and in our case, the community that is resonating for celebrities. That’s the most important first step before formalizing a more traditional business development approach.”

Ray Manzarek: Three enduring examples of his artistry
By Mikael Wood
May 20, 2013, 3:27 p.m.
Though Jim Morrison drew much of the attention (and nearly all of the eyeballs), Ray Manzarek of the Doors did as much as any of his bandmates to define the sound of the legendary L.A. group, which helped push 1960s rock to trippy new extremes.
"Words cannot express," wrote Slash on Twitter. Added Benmont Tench of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers: "His playing showed me the path to, and the joy of, improvisation. Indescribably important."
The Doors - Light My Fire (Live In Europe 1968)
"Break on Through (to the Other Side)"
In addition to providing atmosphere and melodic detail, Manzarek served as the Doors' de facto bassist, anchoring tunes with jazzy lines like the one here.
The Doors - Break On Through (To The Other Side)
"Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)"
Manzarek's inventive playing opened the Doors' music to dimensions untapped by most of the band's peers. Its version of this Brecht-Weill classic is a prime example.

Ray Manzarek, Doors Keyboardist, Dead at 74
'Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him,' says Doors guitarist Robby Krieger

Doors co-founder and keyboardist Ray Manzarek died today in Rosenheim, Germany after a long battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74.
"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today," Doors guitarist Robby Krieger said in a statement. "I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."
Manzarek grew up in Chicago, then moved to Los Angeles in 1962 to study film at UCLA. It was there he first met Doors singer Jim Morrison, though they didn't talk about forming a band until they bumped into each other on a beach in Venice, California in the summer of 1965 and Morrison told Manzarek that he had been working on some music. "And there it was!" Manzarek wrote in his 1998 biography, Light My Fire. "It dropped quite simply, quite innocently from his lips, but it changed our collective destinies."
They quickly teamed up with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger and began playing gigs around Los Angeles. About a year later, the Doors recorded their debut album for Elektra Records. "We knew once people heard us, we'd be unstoppable," Manzarek wrote in his memoir. "We knew what the people wanted: the same thing the Doors wanted. Freedom."
The Doors didn't have a bassist, so Manzarek often played the bass parts on his Fender Rhodes piano. He also played a Vox Continental organ, which can be heard on the famous intro to "Light My Fire" and numerous other Doors classics. The group shared credit on most songs and split all profits evenly.
The group carried on for two more albums after Jim Morrison died in July of 1971, but they split in 1973. Manzarek remained extremely busy, producing albums for X and playing with Iggy Pop, Echo and the Bunnymen and others. In 2002, he began touring as the Doors of the 21st Century with Krieger and Cult frontman Ian Astbury. Doors drummer John Densmore filed a lawsuit over the use of the name and it lead to a protracted legal battle.
"Morrison required all three of us diving into his lyrics and creating music that would swirl around him," Manzarek told Rolling Stone in 2006. "Without Jim, everybody started shooting off in different directions. . . The Doors was the perfect mixture of four guys, four egos that balanced each other. There were never any problems with 'You wrote this' or 'I wrote that.' But [after Jim died] the whole dynamic was screwed up, because the fourth guy wasn't there."

Set The Night On Fire: Behind The Doors' 'Light My Fire'

1967 single "Light My Fire" is one of the NPR 100, our list of the most significant American musical works of the last century. Guy Raz has the story.
"My Favorite Things"
In 1960, Rodgers and Hammerstein collided with when the saxophonist let loose on the saccharine show tune "My Favorite Things."
It was a pivotal moment in modern jazz, as Coltrane consciously set out to vary his genre's repertoire. Some unintended results were its impact on American rock 'n' roll and on Ray Manzarek, a classically trained organist.
Five years after hearing Coltrane's "My Favorite Things," Manzarek moved to Los Angeles, where he met a poet, Jim Morrison; a guitar player, Robby Krieger; and a drummer, John Densmore, who also happened to be a jazz fan.
For Densmore and Manzarek, the freedom in jazz exposed the rigid parameters of the rock 'n' roll world, where AM radio ruled the airwaves. "In those days, if you wanted to be on AM radio, you had to be at three minutes," Krieger says.
The New California Sound
Krieger grew up in Southern California. The fun in the sun sound — surf doo-wop music, , Jan and Dean, and — provided the background music for kids like Krieger, who grew up near the beach.
Sandwiched between the north and south end of LA surf beaches is Venice. By 1965, long abandoned by the body-worshiping surf set, Venice was poised to become a New World beach of beat poetry. It was a place where Jewish pensioners, gathered in front of synagogues, mingled with the mystical hippies on the boardwalk — and a place where four artists, each one with his own musical sensibility, came together as The Doors to make psychedelic rock the sound of Los Angeles.
Manzarek remembers, "We were aware of . We were aware of and John Coltrane and . Plus, Jan and Dean and The Beach Boys and the surf sound. Robby Krieger brings in some flamingo guitar. I bring a little bit of classical music along with the blues and jazz, and certainly John Densmore was heavy into jazz. And Jim brings in beatnik poetry and French symbolist poetry, and that's the blend of The Doors as the sun is setting into the Pacific Ocean at the end, the terminus of Western civilization. That's the end of it. Western civilization ends here in California at Venice Beach, so we stood there inventing a new world on psychedelics."
