Thanks for the feedback. I am on twitter (same user name), but not very active. Just the occasional retweets, etc.
I am still trying to figure out a lot myself. Was posting more to get the discussion going beyond what I am reading for myself and clearly there are others interested to. Like I said, two thronged approach. One trying to understand the revenue flow stuff better, but have learned that this gets me only so far. In the end, there are steps happening in the industry to improve the situation by increasing the % paid to label via streaming, by having efforts ongoing to sort out the SR / Performance royalty questions better, by increasing artists ability to earn i.e. money from fan videos that use artists recordings, etc. I am glad to see all these efforts, but I cannot influence them and ultimately, I can only play so many things in parallel on my computer and need to make choices. As long as I play stuff that will result in royalty payments to RCA, then that is all I can do here. And so I have changed course a bit, because the other side seems of more relevance to me at this point.
But, on that second path I am still very much at the beginning and others may know already more. I also regularly get myself in trouble with streaming services, because my impatience makes me skip songs I don't care about and at least Pandora does not like that at all. (Don't do this!)
It is easy to start with an artist or a group of artists and then evaluate the music that you hear based on your selection. What is less clear is how we can get Adam out of the two main groups he is lumped with (other idols, grrrrr) and general pop/rock (Pink, etc), which worked somewhat for FYE, but imo totally misses the target market for Trespassing.
Pandora works by grouping and we need to find ways to influence these groupings, so his stuff is appropriately pegged.
ezinearticles.com/?Pandora-Internet-Radio---How-Does-It-Work?&id=5207014Adam wants to not have his albums be genre specific anyhow and he should not have to and his music is not easy to peg as a whole, because his body of work is so wide. But for a specific song, it is possible to say where it belongs and I think that we fans have to do that work of getting these classifications improved for him, because the present pegs just make no sense.
At least, that is the direction my thinking is going.
I want to see NCOE offered with the Pink stuff, that is fine, but I also want to see Kickin In with the Rhythmic stuff, and Electronic Music listeners to be offered Nirvana and Rock folks 'Runnin' and good question, where a song like Underneath would fit. But you get the idea. And the hope for all this, is of course, that hopefully some other listeners will be offered his tracks as a new listening experience, which I don't think is presently the case. But I have not yet got answers in how this all works. Still experimenting.
