Adam to sing the Star Spangled Banner at Broadway Bares

Adam was one of the surprise guests at the midnight show of Broadway Bares. He was spotted during sound check and leaving the theater -- and the news leaked on Twitter. (Lots of the Tweets are in yesterday’s news thread.) Photos and videos are not allowed during the show but there are ninja’s in attendance. Plus, it appears that official photos and video will be released.

Broadway Bares 23: United Strips of America

Broadway's sexiest night of the year has arrived: The 23rd annual edition of Broadway Bares, entitled Broadway Bares 23: United Strips of America, is presented at Roseland Ballroom June 23 at 9:30 PM and midnight to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The evening features special appearances by 2013 Tony Award winners Judith Light (The Assembled Parties) and Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), Tony and Olivier Award winner Alan Cumming (Macbeth) and musical performers The Skivvies (Nick Cearley and Lauren Molina). Bravo TV host and executive Andy Cohen will announce the winners of the Strip-a-thon online fundraiser at the midnight performance.

This year’s edition of Broadway Bares is directed by Nick Kenkel and produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, led by producing director Michael Graziano. It was created by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell, who also serves as executive producer.

United Strips of America, according to press notes, "celebrates America's fruited plains and mountains majesties. A bi-coastal couple will set out on separate, sexy journeys through a dozen states – encountering scantily clad inhabitants along the way – in hopes of reuniting in the heartland." Max von Essen (Evita) and Michael Cusumano (Chicago) appear throughout the show as the couple. Guest stars also include two-time Tony nominee Christopher Sieber (La Cage aux Folles), 2013 Tony nominee Charl Brown (Motown The Musical), Lesli Margherita (Matilda The Musical), Kate Rockwell (Rock of Ages) and Eric LaJuan Summers (Motown The Musical).

Roseland Ballroom is located at 239 West 52nd Street. The 9:30 PM show is sold out. Tickets for the midnight show can be purchased online at broadwaycares.org or by calling (212) 840-0770, ext 268. A limited number of tickets also may be available between 3 PM and 7 PM June 23 in the lobby of Roseland Ballroom. Ticket availability will be based on cancellations and returns. Tickets will be first-come, first-served. Cash or credit cards will be accepted.

Through 22 editions, Broadway Bares has raised more than $9.8 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Another summer of popular music comes to Del Mar

Current chart-toppers, yesterday’s favorites, and everyone in between will be descending on Del Mar these next few weeks and months thank to a summer music lineup that seems to get stronger every year. Throughout the year, residents mostly rely on the Belly Up for their live music needs, but with the San Diego County Fair to the new season of the Del Mar Racetrack, the North County music scene gets a large boost every summer season.

“We’ve always been striving to get the best caliber entertainers we possibly can,” said Linda Zweig, the head of media relations for the County Fair. “Historically across the board, we’ve had huge names on our grandstand stage and we’re just trying to carry on that tradition.”

As for who Zeig is looking forward to this year, she points out Adam Lambert (July 2) is both a public and staff favorite. “For some reason,” she mused, “I’ve been getting a lot of requests to see Adam by older women…”
