I am aghast that RCA was so off base with their understanding of Adam and his fans that they would want an 80's cover album but I am pleased that Adam refused to recorded it.

JMHO -- He will be fine and there was no way he could have agreed to this awful idea of an album and have any future career as a recording artist.

Here it the text of a letter Adam sent to Shirley Halperin of The Hollywood Reporter confirming his exit....

Dear Shirley,

Thank you for your continued interest in, and support of, my musical career. After reading your article on July 8th, and seeing the very impassioned responses, I thought it would be good to write and let you know what is actually happening with my next album.

I've had an amazing few years working with the team at RCA; I admire all of them a great deal, and truly appreciate the energy & enthusiasm that went into making both "Trespassing" & "For Your Entertainment" successes.

That said, at this point, we are indeed having the oft-cited "creative differences" as to what my next project will be. Your article was correct, the label is "pushing for an (80's) covers album," and feels that this is the only kind of release they are prepared to support. While there are lots of great songs from that decade, my heart is simply not in doing a covers album.

Over the past four years, I have been truly fortunate to work with an amazing roster of producers, writers and engineers. Thanks to them, I have grown as both a songwriter and a vocalist. Artistically & professionally, I think it is essential that I continue with this evolution. I am already deep into writing new material with some very talented colleagues for a brand new album, and I can't tell you how excited I am to share this new sound & direction. This music is where my heart is, and I believe that is what my fans want to hear. So after careful consideration, I have made the decision to respectfully part ways with RCA. My passion for the music & respect for the fans will always come first. I am excited to find a new label team who shares this vision.

And then let me apologize to Shirley Halperin for doubting her original story, but at least the part about Adam being into the concept because he covered "Shout" and did 80's covers on Idol was wrong.

The "American Idol" season eight runner-up says no to an all-covers album, which the Sony-owned label was pushing for.

Monday's news -- as reported by The Hollywood Reporter -- that American Idol season eight runner-up Adam Lambert was being asked by his label, RCA Records, to consider recording an all covers album elicited an impassioned response from the legions of Glamberts worldwide. And it wasn't a positive one.

In what was a loud and fairly unanimous outcry, the rocker's fans took to social media, this site and popular American Idol debate destination MJs Big Blog to voice their distaste for the idea. The consensus for the most part being: that Lambert is an artist with his own musical vision who should be allowed to explore it to the fullest.

Now, THR can report, Lambert will be doing just that. The singer is walking away from his RCA contract after two full length albums, 2012's Trespassing and 2009's For Your Entertainment, along with several EPs and a live collection -- all issued by the Sony Music label.

Lambert revealed the news in a letter to THR, which follows in its entirety below. In it, Lambert notes "the oft-cited 'creative differences'" as they related to his next project, stating: "my heart is simply not in doing a covers album." To the contrary, Lambert adds that he's "deep into writing new material with some very talented colleagues," which will surely delight his audience of diehards.

The "evolution" continues, he says. "This music is where my heart is." But it won't be at RCA, where a typical American Idol recording contract stipulates that the artist and the label be on the same page creatively.

We still have @shoshannastone "coming to America" and we don't know why. What pray tell could this be about? From what I can tell it is about Adam and I can't imagine it is still only about Glee. Could be she is starting press for this but from what I have seen today press should not be that high a priority. So any guesses anyone? Or she could be doing press for someone other than Adam. Nah, Adam only. I still feel things are on the Horizon.

What can I say other than what has already been said .. nothing much .. besides that I'm like all of you and the rest of the world so excited. I follow an amazing man who opened up to the world as naturally and honestly as he is.

Adam gives me so much happiness, joy, excitement, fun in many ways. He keeps me on my toes, I hold him in my heart with love and support.
I see Adam as a truly blessed child who bravely goes through life believing in himself, has a good vision for the future, and with patience goes to his purpose.

Adam has it all, his life is good, I can see it in his eyes and his smile, is just written all over his face.
Ever since my eyes saw Adam, he keeps this glowing look.

Back to Glee, I do not know this program, I have not watched it, but I'm very excited, Adam will be in the homes of people from around the world, shine like a true star that he is.

I have a feeling that this Glee Season 5 will be more of a success it already is, with the biggest number of viewers, but it will not be the same after Adam.

Adam is in a sense a genius who leaves behind a trace of something amazing, something not to be forgotten, and with a feeling of wanting more. I am blessed Adam fan and very excited one ...

This is another great time for him. I can not wait for what's coming for us ... oh! boy, excited again .... SpinDance

Well, I think we all felt the last couple nights in Hammersmith have been a moment of significance. In fact, perhaps especially last night. The band, as it is now, seems suddenly to have switched into a higher gear - more confident, having more fun … and stepping into new territory … an amazing thought at this stage in our lives and in our careers … to be honest, I would never have thought it possible before this journey with Adam Lambert began.

Adam has his own style and path, and there was never any intention that he would be 'another Freddie" - but there are many parallels, in the mechanisms which we've already developed - coming together as an organic band.

It's very pure - having no extra guitarist means I am back in the old place, as in the Old Days, completely responsible for holding up the 'wall' of sound, but also completely free to control the dynamics and 'feel', working more or less as a four-piece - something which is only possible because Adam is such a strong pivot and front-man. No backing singers - no dancers - it's pure - somehow it feels like Rock ought to be … … dangerous and stimulating. It's completely - real. In this epoch of auto-tune and hard discs on stage, that's pretty rare these days.

And everybody seems to be having fun. Including … totally … US!

Many thanks to you guys in the Hammersmith audience - no bunch of rockers could be more supportive and inspiring. The view above is something nobody else sees … it's from Pete Malandrone … my intrepid and unflappable Guitar Tech - this is the amazing sight from the Apollo (Odeon) stage - you guys are beautiful !!

Listening to TSMGO live is an experience out of this world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The crowd tonight was 65-70% older men Queen fans And the crowd in general was a Queen crowd.

And the young men Queen fans were dancing and clapping like crazy too and EVERYONE was flailing!!

That's why Adam tweeted in the middle of the show, he FELT IT GUYS!!
HE FELT THAT ENERGY OMGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

I can guarantee you that after the first 10 minutes Adam had them ALL on the palm of his hand!!!!
Every time Brian mentioned Adam's name they were clapping like crazy!!

OMGGGGGGGG and I saw this live!! THE BEST CONCERT EVAH!!!!!!!!!!!
His voice was insane!!!
The last note on We are the champions and he ended the whole show of course with this note WAS UNFUCKINEPICEPICEPIC!!!
