All I know is that when I post positive Adam news or counter negative news (like the break with RCA) on some sites (no names here), I get called out as not being really gay, of actually being an older woman (as, in some minds, they are the ONLY ones who could like Adam Lambert).
Yes, there is a lot of self-hatred, and an special dislike of gay men who are not "straight-acting". I believe this is especially true of America, as opposed to the UK, South America, Brazil, etc, where Adam appears to have many "openly gay" fans.
Also, just my opinion, but I think if Adam truly had the support of more of the gay community, Trespassing would have sold more and he would be at a better point in his career. At the same time, I believe Adam needs to focus more on winning wide "mainstream" support. Shoshana and the US PR effort for TP seemed to be too focused on gay media, and not enough on the non-gay segments. As some gay radio personalities have said, Gays will follow if Adam shows he can achieve mainstream success.
Still I will continue to fight for Adam where negativity appears.

It's always a risk to post tweets without knowing the source. People can tweet whatever the heck they want. Some may have an agenda, others may just have incorrect information and some just retweet without checking facts. I've done 2 out of 3 of those things (never had an agenda except to help AFL : ) and have learned my lesson - ALMOST. Adam's tweet about Gale was really lovely. Made me tear up and I didn't know the man. Also the band tweets & Lyndsay's tweet show how loved & respected he was in the Adam Lambert world. I'm glad we finally have something to look forward to that we can sink out teeth into. (No pun intended). How glorious this Monday shindig will be!

Rolling Stone @rollingstoneHow Swedish DJ-producer Avicii merged bluegrass and EDM into a global smash: rol.st/19vXrgFAdam mention:Rodgers, fresh off Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," co-wrote the glitter-caked, Studio 54-ready jam "Lay Me Down," which features vocals by Adam Lambert. "Tim will do stuff that, honestly, I would've never thought of," Rodgers says. "On the last couple of songs I've done with him, I'm the bass player. I played a guitar riff and he just puts it down an octave and it sounds so funky." Should we assume that RollingStones has or hasn't heard a studio production of "Lay Me Down". Pretty nice description for the live versions we've heard so far. I'm not sure what to think of Adam being the only person mentioned in the whole article who isn't further described by something other than his name. Perhaps they think that describing the song as glitter-caked is all the description Adam needs and that he may be more of a household name than anyone else in the article. I'll go listen to Hey Brother again, I loved Man of Constant Sorrow so glad to see the singer featured again.

The lack of material support is the reason I am convinced the gay community at large is not interested in supporting Adam. (They are happy supporting the LG's of the world, but not one of their own.) and by doing so IMO they are making the social progress harder and slower. Too bad.
