Now Nile, if you wrote a song for Adam and he sang it for hours on end, I would sincerely hope that you have it still in your head a few hours later.    You are a master of good hooks, after all, and we are counting on you! Yes, I do agree with Q3 that hooks are key in pop and that Adam needs to have more of them, if he wants to win at the pop game. Not sure he should or will or can. Just saying without good hooks he has no chance in hell.

On the other debate we had tonight about RCA:

1) Nobody said that BTIKM was not the originally planned first single? Not sure what you are implying there or referring to. But, I agree, this was a deliberate choice. The date choice was very strange though and seemed not beneficial to Adam's interests.

2) Your statement that Peter Edge was busy reorganizing RCA.

While that surely was his main goal during that time, I do believe that even lousy managers are usually capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. Hence, while he reorg'd one unit, he at the same time made the major personnel decisions he wanted to make. And he also set the major directives, which in turn impacted Adam's rollout.
The most major one of these directives, you did mention yourself:

3) Cutback on promotional funds. If promotional $s for TSP were spent based on ROI-history with FYE, then they must have assumed that it is hopeless to promote Adam effectively to radio, because we know that Adam received heavy promotional lifting for FYE and yet had only very sluggish acceptance of both his singles on radio.  Hence they probably spent almost nothing for TSP radio promo. That, at least, would fit my outsider perception of lack of promo funding.

4) With that statement about reduced promotional funding, you kind of also confirmed my general observation/suspicion why radio seems rather icy towards RCA in general. Talk about sawing off the branch you're sitting on. I know that radio is a bitch and an aging one at that, but boy, that seems like a dumb thing to do.

5) Now we just need to figure out why Billboard is miffed at RCA. Is there any money flowing from labels to BB too? Just wondering.

6) Btw, agree with your assessment of the A&R related statements. A bunch of bs and I am not seeing the innovative stuff either.
