Hi!
Quick check-in from this alternate Universe.
Let me see if I can try to describe one small chapter in this year's event. Last night we participated in what is called the "Core Burn" - where art installations made by communities of people from cities throughout the world all ignite at the same time - sending fire & embers, creativity, imagination, and this intangible freedom across the Playa towards the heavens. It's done while music pulsates through the air; indescribable neon-lit vehicles cross the desert like slow-motion fireflies; and thousands of burners and their decorated selves and bicycles weave through the scene - true 'glitter in the air'. We watched it all happen from the highest platform on 'Tiki Island' - a moving island in our sea of desert where John Frum might have found his 'Cargo Cult' - the theme of this year's Burn. Here's a little fascinating history. During WWII, Pacific island people living very simply in the remotest places on earth received packages that were dropped by aircraft or came ashore from ships and aircraft carriers that passed by in the distance. These natives had no explanation for what occurred - but they were grateful for the 'gifts'; and built images of these alien crafts and began to worship them, in hopes they would return. On one of the packages were the words 'John Frum' - thus, the icon and the question 'Who is John Frum?'.
I hope the livestream connection above will come back into service. It is the right one! It will provide you the best view of the Playa. My view from Tiki Island was beyond enthralling - sort of like the feeling I had when I spoke to Adam at the GLAAD Awards, or saw him in Napa at Live in the Vineyards last November.
My DNA wasn't programmed to experience either Adam or Burning Man. Now, both have happened, and I feel reconstruction going on, right to my toes. The building of a stronger, better, more resilient, more bendy me is happening.
And here I was, four years ago, thinking I had finished growing.

This site also shows Robin Thicke BUSTED grabbing that little blonde's derriere. What you learn when you read the news.. Looks like nobody wants to be associated with Idol this year. Anyone who hops aboard now will be known as the 'last call' candidate for judging. ugh.

The Lambrits @lambritsuk 2m Great article & enjoyed reading! RT @nilerodgers: trunc.it/omzvv Thoroughly enjoyed reading this article about Nile and his attention on not only his music, but how the course of music has changed. What I adore about Nile is he accepts music..it's all creation. No judgments. What a guy. Thanks, LadyM!

Now THIS is fabulous! If you want to hear Adam's vocals up front, what a performance! And Octavia and Isaac were still with Adam. Wow, blast from the past. I often wonder about Isaac. I know he went back to Loaded, but there was never a word from Adam. And Isaac wasn't his smiley self at the end of his time with the band. Hope all ended well. Whatever...but here the band and backup singers totally gel with Adam. Sooo good.. Adam has had so many performances, I so appreciate when Atopers post these gems. I forget. Thanks again, LadyM!

I haven't heard any more about him, but I thought he attended some event with Adam - included dinner. East coast? Does anyone else remember?

I am really offended by the Idol powers who think that if there are two women working together there will be catfights -- "And it looks like J-Lo could be the only female in the lineup because producers reportedly want to avoid the nasty catfights Mariah and Nicki engaged in last season." Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2406911/Jennifer-Lopez-lands-17-5m-deal-return-American-Idol-securing-bumper-pay-rise.html#ixzz2dTs6XZQcThis is utter nonsense and hateful. Can you imagine if they said we do not want two blacks on the panel together because there will be catfights? I honestly have no doubt that the braintrust from FOX, Fremantle and CORE/19 believe this but it is so untrue, and so sexist, I cannot believe we have to put up with this s#@! in 2013! Are they so stupid that they just put the wrong women on the panel! Two women who were not capable of being competent judges? I do not recall Kara and Paula having catfights or Kara and Ellen mud wresting. And didn't they want and promote that same Mariah-Nicki catfight? I used to love Idol -- even before Adam. Now I just find it a mix of boring and infuriating. It is certainly no longer fun to be an Idol fan. (or should I say ex-fan.) I also really do not want Adam to be heavily involved with this show in its current state of leaderless muddle. Hire someone to run the f'ing show. Give them carte blanche to find the best talent for the contestants. Go out and seek talent like The Voice does instead of relying on the mass cattle calls. And hire really good ex-Idols as mentors. Adam, JHud, Cook, even Kelly might agree to be mentors for a week. And please just let Randy retire and do not hire arrogant, self-absorbed judges -- or oooops you just did that with JLo. Well do not add another one!! It would be really interesting if all the women who watch the show decided to stop watching the show because the show owners are misogynists!
