9.11.23 Adam News and Info

It is a slow day and I have been reading a new-ish science journal...Nautilus Quarterly...which focuses on a different 'topic' each quarter and then looks at that issue with scientific eyes but from multiple perspectives. The current issue is analyzing and dissecting FAME. It is fascinating.

I am currently reading the essay "Homo Narrativus and the Trouble with Fame". Feel free to read it at <Nautil.us> if you are interested but what I am really wanting to mention here is the author's discussion of the process of imbuing someone with 'fame' and how that might pertain to Adam. Dodds speaks of our natural tendancy to imitate others and that this imitation is part of the fame gathering process [this is my take and application of what he is saying...he says much more but this is the part that we may be interested in following up...or not.

We find and 'choose' who we choose to confer fame on by who they remind of us. That in part is what is so difficult for Adam...he stands alone. It is partly why the people we do compare him to are people who had comparable difficulties 'breaking' in to the fame business...they also were unique. 

Simplified to the max, when I think of Adam, I am led to wonder if instead of regularly comparing Adam to all the greats we wish him to connect/compare him too or emulate in some way....Bowie/Queen/Freddie Mercury/Elvis etc etc....we would be more effective to compare other 'less' famous or peers TO HIM. When we encounter talented young singers....we could be praising them on how their voice/appearance/showmanship is reminiscent of the marvels of Adam Lambert....rather than just saying they are ok but not as great as Adam..... By the same token, always comparing him to singers like Freddie or Elvis simply focusses on a sense that Adam is either usurping another superior position/an imitation of an original/or just out of date. 

So....rather than 'accuse' another of copying something Adam already did....we should be praising the similarity....that makes Adam the benchmark standard rather than the victim being ripped off. This is the spoonful of sugar that may bring the fans of others to 'see' and identify with Adam. Also...if there are others that see value in letting their 'similarities' to Adam...their freak flags, if you will....fly freely, then ultimately that makes Adam's journey easier as well. 

We need to show Adam as the benchmark...the one to be copied...not the follower but the leader. Because that is what he is and the only way he would have it.

Why? I only follow people or organizations, that have something interesting or important to say, and only want poeple to follow me if they think I am worth it. Not an exchange game...
