Also, I tried to google 'foil', and I still don't know what 'he really is a wonderful foil for us' means. Interesting use of the word. The common definition I am familiar with means someone who sets off and highlights another person/thing by contrast. Here I think Brian means that Adam challenges them and gives them a platform to show what they can do. Not in an antagonistic way, but in a synergistic one. |

A foil like this means that Adam, by having different qualities from them, serves to highlight their own qualities.  It is all good! It's more than good, it is bloody amazing and I believe them with all my heart, everything they say. Such a high praise from such gentlemen! I am really floored. |
