Looking at the song lists for GLEE 5-5 and 5-6, it appears that these shows focus on the Ohio (High School) cast, not the New York cast. Judging by the reaction to Season 4, and the first few shows of Season 5, viewers have not taken to the new cast as they did to the originals (the best of which have "graduated" to the New York setting). It is my guess that Ryan Murphy is trying to focus on Ohio now and built support for this new group.
I had never watched GLEE up until a few weeks ago. But thru Netflix and Hulu +, I have managed to watch all shows leading up to this season. There really was a drop-off in quality in Season 4. For the first three seasons, I thought the show was perfectly cast. But the new cast members did seem to be lacking the same appeal. Perhaps it was the plot lines, perhaps it was that Cory Monteith's character and Lea Michelle's character were no longer together. But something was missing in Season 4.
So I have no expectations that Adam's guest appearance (be it one show, two or six) will rejuvenate the show. I will just try to enjoy it for what it is: a chance to see Adam perform and perhaps an opportunity to pick up some new fans.
Also for those that do not watch GLEE, special guest stars, when they do more than one show, generally have appearances sprinkled over a number of shows. For example, Kate Hudson last season appeared on about 4 or 5 shows, but maybe only 2 of these were on consecutive shows.

My take of GLEE is that Ryan Murphy and the writers are constantly evolving the storyline -- and that drives everything. And my expectation is Adam's character comes and goes. I hope we are lucky we get 4 or 5 episodes. I actually could not watch most of Season 4 -- something was off. I think it was lots of stuff at the same time. The MHS cast and situations were the biggest gap for me. Not nearly as good as Seasons 1 and 2.
