Just so on cloud nine about everything that is happening.....just got to drop off some thoughts along the way:
- first of all, chiming in with where @mzsue was going with her post, because I think this is totally true. Glee is about team play, it's the team that must win here, not Adam as somehow being so much better than everyone else. And Glee as a team wins, if the ratings go up and their storyline becomes water cooler conversation for one reason or another. If the general word of mouth becomes, Glee is back and this is a season everyone must watch, then Glee wins. And if part of the conversation is Adam's contribution to this success, then he wins.
It does not matter whether I need to dissect a song like 'Roar' to pick up his voice, even though I have to say, I find it interesting to see how much it is still possible to pick it out, even though they try to hide him in the ensemble here. Of course I agree that he alone would have been stronger, but this is not what this show is about. To hear Adam alone, I'll go to his concerts or hope for Queen concert, etc. I think, we were very fortunate to get a solo performance for him in the first episode. We better be prepared for more group numbers mostly. Which does not mean, we should not run any solos up the charts on any Thursday we can. But, it is not what is the most important.
The really important part for Adam is, that the storyline that they are trying to build up for him, clicks with the audience. That Adam is not perceived as running away with the show, but rather that he is bringing an enhancing element to the show, and that the integrity of the show is still maintained. So, it is important that people want to tune in for the show, and not just for Adam only. The fact that a few people are tuning in for him alone, does not matter, imo. There are people that only tune in for Jane Lynch or only for Lea or only for Kurt, so no big deal, they know that Adam brings along an existing fan base. The question is, what the overall impression of the majority is. And I hope that they perceive the show as rejuvenated, but overall still as a Glee show.
Talking about Kurt. I have to say that I am very impressed with the maturity the show and especially Kurt is having. I mean, Kurt has millions of fans that want him to be the best and think the most of him. In fact, I have heard that many Kurt fans are a bit disappointed that he has not had a stronger storyline in the more recent seasons.
Now, his new storyline is that he is jealous of a guy who is singing circles around him. That is challenging in two ways. a) it exposes the obvious, that Adam is better than everyone ever when it comes to singing. Something that we know, and clearly the guys on the show know, but by no means everyone in America knows. So Kurt needs to be secure enough here to handle his place. b) Kurt gets to play the bad guy, something that gives him a stronger ability to show his acting skills and his sense of humor and sense of timing and that is all good, but a few fans of his who are totally in love with all things Kurt, and idealize him, may not want to see their guy, play this anti-role.
But the progress of the storyline depends on the extent to which America buys this storyline and loves this storyline. So, the show is taking some risks here too, but also opening itself up to opportunities. Hope it works out for everyone.
Finally, and this is my biggest happy spot right now, in all this, Adam clearly has taking acting lessons - or received them as part of the preparation for this role. From the pieces I have seen, he has really learned not to over-act (except of course when he is supposed to be OTT - and you clearly can see how he lets loose then, lol). But otherwise, we have now multiple minutes of Elliot tape and he plays it just right, which in Adam's case means quite restrained.
Now, that win is huge, if he can hold this up and expand his career that way. And combined with his good looks, this could open up a completely new fan base, if you ask me.
And thank you to Ryan for giving him just the right role, where he can get his feet wet and ease into the acting world the right way.
I am just loving everything I am seeing and doing the happy dance all the way around.

2 hours and 32 mins until "Ellen"....so I wandered over to the pink place to read the views on the Glee sneak peek vids. I was thrilled to see almost all berting away! Then I noticed the one poster who makes it his/her life's work to jump on Adam threads, challenging any compliments, making negative and sarcastic comments, etc......finally popped up just once so far on the video thread. And the best (s)he could come up with was "man, they're sure promoting this episode!" Hahahahahahaha! There is NADA to find fault with these vids! He did a great job and the Debbie Downers are having a helluva time finding something to pick on! I love it!

I think the ratings and viewer reviews matter the most. The Cory Tribute 10/11/13 FOX Glee 2.8 8 7.40 million viewers (big competition) ABC Grey's Anatomy 2.8 8 8.72 million viewers CBS The Crazy Ones 2.4 7 9.92 million viewers (followed by Two and a Half Men) Glee Season 5x02 10/3/13 FOX Glee 1.6/5 4.55 million viewers (big competition) ABC Grey's Anatomy 3.0/8 9.39 million viewers CBS The Crazy Ones 2.9/8 11.76 million viewers (followed by Two and a Half Men) This Thursday is during Sweeps Week with Grey's Anatomy, Crazy One/Two and a Half Men and NBC is running a special The Voice Live Results show...the competition will be much tougher. I am hoping it is north of 4 million viewers. In my market, Voice is an hour earlier I clarified my post -- the point is that with The Voice on NBC at 8-9PM vs. FOX's X-Factor at 8-9PM -- Glee has a very weak lead-in this week. So if it comes close to 10/3's 4.55 million viewers -- I will consider that a big win. ETA: To ratings purists -- I used the overnights vs. final ratings. It was not about the number as much as trying to say what good ratings will be. I think > 4 million will be a big win; <4 million will not be good. I used the overnights because that is what we will see Friday AM.

My laptop is away being repaired for 2 weeks... no Glee for me :( Friends? Internet cafe? Family? I mean there are options, aren't there? Hope you can make something work. This is seriously not the right time for being off-line for two weeks.

Perhaps would be useful to show possible label that he has selling power. I agree with al the above and would add something....I commented on twitter a while back on this too...there are a lot of fans talking real trash about the other singers on Glee and saying things like Adam is the only good thing about the show and the only reason they would watch an episode...or worse, waiting for snippets that include only Adam so they don't HAVE to watch. or listen, to the whole thing. There is talk about how Adam sings rings around everyone else and nobody else is very good at all. In my opinion, this kind of talk can go a long way to making regular Glee fans dislike Adam; does not help Adam at all; and makes us look petty and mean. Adam doesn't do this. We do not need to diss other performers to make Adam look good....he does that just fine all by himself. There is a lot of talent on that show...and quite a few of the singers are really good...especially the girls. Lea Michelle has as much...arguably more....singing cred coming from years in professional theatre. It is perfect that we continue praising Adam to the sky...but I think it is both wrong and counter-productive to talk poorly of the others. JMHO.....ignore if you wish... I agree!
