Was all set to flail with you all last night and read the thread from the summit. I hope I can eventually read that.
Short recap:
When we got there (lynne was with me) there was a short line. The doors were supposed to open at 1:15 but it was closer to 1:30. The only other Atopper there was Dietcoke, who is the one that got me and Lynne our tickets. I owe her big time!
We had to check in and they gave us a name tag on a lanyard Some of the lanyards were from Turbo Tax (the summit sponsor) and some were actually from the Grammy Academy. I got the Grammy one!! We went upstairs and we were so excited when we saw the set-up. This was a small event, maybe 200-250. High stools on the stage with no desks or tables in front. OMG!!! We knew we would have an excellent view of Adam. They started late and as you saw on the live stream, introduced everyone with Adam being last.
The atmosphere in the room was very, very relaxed. The moderator did a great job and his gentle teasing of the Adam fans was taken well by all. Of course, Adam called us "Amazing, amazing, amazing!"
Chamillionaire was wonderful. Talk about stereotyping! I had no idea what this man was going to look like but I'll be honest, did not expect this nerdy guy in the white shirt and tie with glasses. So cute!! And OMG, was he knowledgeable about the subject or what? Adam listened to him so intently when he was talking about how he uses social networks for promotion. I am sure Adam came away with some great ideas.
Towards the end of the conference the guy on the floor with the mic said that anyone who wanted to ask a question could line-up. I really had no intention of asking one because I firgured there'd be a bee-line to get there. Surprisingly, when I looked over there were only 3 people there. WUT?! So, I decided to mosey on over. That man got there before me so there ended up being 5 of us who got to ask. People came up behind me but because that man's question was so damn long, they cut it off at me. Thank goodness!
So, I asked a question that lynne had actually mentioned when we were sitting down. I had a million questions I could have asked just Adam, but I didn't want to do that. "Have you ever gotten a suggestion, via Twitter, from a fan that you've used." Oh, I decided to use my Twitter name when I had to say my name so you all would know it was me!
So Adam briefly said somehting then Chamillionaire went into a longer reply, with examples. And, after he finished everyone was kind of looking at Adam expecting him to say more, so I said, "Adam?" (I realized later, that sounded just like the teacher in me.) Of course he gave his reply about not giving away secrets. But, as you all know, he always looks right at your eyes when he is talking to you and I sure wish he had talked a bit longer. I was about 15 feet away from him, I'd say.
Then the conference ended and a whole bunch of people went up to the stage to take pics. Quite a few people had things to sign. My friend, who also went with me but doesn't post here, brought her acoustic CD up. It was the first thing Adam signed. I wasn't close enough to get anything signed. She then came over to me and gave me the autograph. She has several things signed by Adam and she felt so bad when Adam stopped signing at the Grove right before me.
So, yesterday, I sort of got to talk to Adam and got an autograph on Acoustic Live. What a day! Being able to just stare at him sitting in front of us for 2 hours was an amazing experience. I can't think of anytime something like this would ever be repeated.
Then the rock stars left and the bar opened. Open bar, anything we wanted. There were passed Hors d'oeurves, too. And as if staring at GNAFL wasn't enough, we got gift bags also! There was a t-shirt, a very nice card stock Grammy poster which I will be framing, and an i-phone cover with the Grammy symbol on it and the Grammy saying, "Music is life. Life is music."
What a day!!!!!! (Oops, sorry. Guess this turned out to be not so short.)
