The Decoding

Fans decoded it all within a few hours. It may not be correct but this is the best decoding I have seen.

DRIFT Lava drifts, DESCEND Lava descends down the mountain, FIRE Lava is hot like fire and flames. The song playing in the background is “Looking In” by the LA VAmpires and “By The Rules” has "lava flow" in it!

January – Adam’s month!

Two different, very important Adam births happened in January.

January 29, 1982 Adam Mitchel Lambert was born. This will be Adam’s 32nd birthday.

January 20, 2009 Adam Lambert Global Fandom was born. This is the date that Adam’s Idol Audition was broadcast. This year is the 5th anniversary of the birth of Adam’s Global Fandom. Like Adam, it started out small and has grown over the years. Yes, Adam had some fans before his Idol Audition was broadcast but that is different from what the broadcast of his Idol Audition started.

Today, I have a simple question for you – how should we celebrate these two monumental events?

Post your ideas in today’s thread and I will take those ideas, along with the ideas that have been sent to me over the past few weeks, and post a list in tomorrow’s news of three or four great ideas for an ATop vote.

Two things I would like to take off the table because they are already in the works:

1. A giant digital fan greeting card – while it is a great idea, there are already a few in the works.

2. A tweeter campaign – also a great idea but already planned.

So how should we celebrate?



Alternate Reality Show

It's that time of year again -- Idol season is starting. While I am not too interested in the Season 13 contestant and new gimmicks they are using to jazz up the program, it does make me think back to the Idol performance that changed my life. I mean really changed my life.

4 years and 51 weeks ago.

So today, I have decided to indulge myself and rewrite history -- just a bit.

Here is the edited reality we saw. Adam's audition cut-up for broadcast and part of the San Francisco audition show that was broadcast on January 20, 2009. [He owned me with two notes, "Ma-ma".

After the Season 8 finale (May 21, 2009), we learned that the real reality started with a different song – a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You”. I have often wondered if this performance would have grabbed my heart and instantly owned me. I think so, but I can never be sure.

Alternate Reality

I think the alternate reality is more fun. Can you imagine what Simon Cowell would have said if Adam showed up and auditioned for Idol like this?

Here is my fantasy for how Ryan and the 4 Idol judges would have responded if Starchild showed up in San Francisco to audition for American Idol Season 8.

So hope into my time-space continuum machine. Suspend reality. Chant along with me three times...

There is a bit of extra electricity in the air. It feels like glitter air.

Simon looks at a list of the San Francisco hopefuls: What kind of moron calls himself Starchild?!?

The performance ends, Starchild slams the mikestand to the ground. Ryan just stands there with his mouth open, jaw hanging, completely dumbstruck.

Paula: Oh, I love your hat! Can I try it on!

Starchild: Thanks! I did the embellishment myself. But I am not sure you want to mess up you hair.

Kara: I’m speechless.

Simon: Looks like something you got at Goodwill and dipped in glitter!

Randy (seeming oblivious to Simon): Yo! I’m like --- what!?! For me…kinda dark, wild but cool. I love your voice man, you give me chills... but...but dawg...I just don't know.

Kara to Randy: But can he sing? Isn’t that way we are looking for?

Randy: The boy can blow. He can sing the phone book. But...but...Yo...Dawg.

Kara: How do you hit those notes? It was all a bit strange and confusing and …. umm …. oh, it was a bit sleezy and sexy and wild. I just don’t know but I kind of enjoyed it.

Randy: Is the room spinning?

Paula: I think you are one of the most diverse singers we’ve heard. And you look fantastic! (Turning to Kara and Randy) He’s the best dressed contestant we’ve ever had.

Simon: Let me give you my opinion for what it’s worth. What the hell was that?

Starchild looking deflated: Was it a bit too much?

Simon: Beyond theatrical! Horrific, indulgent rubbish. I think there are a lot of people throwing their television sets out the window right now. If you want my honest opinion. I mean really, really horrific.

Where are the acrobats and the fire breathers and the stiltwalkers? I really expected to see flames shooting out of your head!

Starchild (softly): Oooo! That would be great. I always wanted to have fire shooting out of my head! And a dragon and lots of pryo and lasers and fog.

Simon: NONE OF THAT belongs on Idol. Ridiculous!

Kara to Simon: But can he sing? We should be judging on talent and viability in the music industry, and he has that. I think you just missed the whole thing. For me, for a moment it was like Studio 57 up in here.

Starchild looks up hopefully.

Kara: Well, do we put him through?

Randy: That’s up to you. We each have our own votes...

Kara: But is he a good singer?

Randy to Starchild: I think you are a good singer. I think you are in it to win it. I think it is time for someone like you.

Starchild whispers: Thank you (looking at Randy).

Randy: I’m going to say yes, I like this guy.

Simon: Are you f’ing nuts!?!?

Kara (points her pen at Simon): What are you going to say?

Simon: Lunatics are running the asylum. But yes. (Looking at Starchild) I want to see what you will do. (almost inaudibly) I am so bored with this show and he should be entertaining. And he won’t make it into the Finals anyway.

Paula overhears and rolls her eyes.

Starchild to Simon: If this is too much, I can be how you want me to be.

Simon: At least get rid of that god-awful name!

Kara ignores Starchild and addressed Simon: After all that you’re going to say yes?!? I was going to say yes before you said yes. (Turning to Randy) You heard me. I was going to say it first.

Paula: And I think you’re brilliant! That’s four yeses.

Starchild looks ecstatic and exits.

Ryan is still frozen and has not said a word.

Idol is truly never the same!
