I just remembered that when I was in kindergarten the town I lived in froze the high school football field so that the town could ice skate. I had the double blades too!

I love that Adam went skating! He skates about as well as I do, lol. I am truly skate challenged. Which is a bit of a problem since I live about 15 minutes from the longest outdoor ice skating rink in the world (or some such touristy hyperbole) and it's pretty much expected here that you not only can skate (just like were all supposed to be good hockey players) but love it, too. I do not much care for skating, or winter in general!! But I took my kids downhill skiing yesterday for their first time ever, and we all had a blast, so that's something, right? Hi Avari, I grew up in Toronto and as soon as I could walk I was learning to skate! I started with those double blade runners but that didn't last too long. Of course it turned into figure skating before long. Haven't done it in a while. I'm afraid the falls would kill me now so I mostly watch. I'm with you on this winter thing, never understood why my husband and I stayed in Wisconsin after we moved to the states. Weather is exactly like TO. Adam and I could probably be mirror images of each other the way I skate now. haha Group hug...I left Ottawa to move to my lovely island...daughter still lives in the Market area, just off St Edwards, and has a home-based hair salon ...small world...sorry everyone...could not resist....carry on....

Oh they are soooo different! I been there too, but in reverse! An ice skater on roller blades. Yipes!! I was an avid roller skater growing up and especially in high school. I even learned to waltz on roller skates in P.E. The first time I tried ice skating, I was a teenager. It took 20 minutes or so for me to get my balance going, but then I was going forwards, backwards, and turning around like I had been ice skating for years. Last time I tried ice skating, in my 50's, it seemed so much harder than when I was younger. I've become so much more cautious about risking injury in my old age. You are a dancer so I think you have an advantage -- but your first 20 minutes for some are hours of wobbling -- and I have seen a few kids and adults just give up in frustrating. ** I used to dream of being Peggy Fleming II -- and skated a lot. I pretty much stopped after college since no Olympic team invite was forthcoming. I went skating again after 30 years off the ice and it was sooooo much harder. Thankfully I only fell once (when I tried to be way too clever). Since then I have skated a few times a year -- it does come back but no more jumping for me!

Hair: B in first place, C second. I guess I like the more "mature" looks!

On Adam and skiing, boarding and other downhill sports -- I am so glad he did not ski. Really easy for a non-skier to get injured skiing. That would not be good for Adam right now. Looked to me like he was mostly hanging around, photo bombing people, and clubbing. I'm glad he skated. I am not expect to see video of Adam taking a run down Skating -- as long as you stay on the ice -- has a much lower injury rate. (And he does not look like he knows how to skate very well either.) My bet is Adam could be a decent skier or skater with some time, experience and desire. We know he can dance and spin. Seems like a matter of lack of interest. As Eber said on Idol about Adam as a child, "Sports, not so much." ) Didn't want to get more tomatoes thrown but I was FREAKED at the thought of Adam snow boarding or skiing. Thank goodness it is "sports, not so much"! Seen too many ski injuries among all levels of skiing. We want forward motion sans crutches! I know that you are just kidding -- but no tomato throwing here anyway. If someone has tomatoes they need to be turned into sauce. It is Sunday, and I am Italian-American. Not that I make Sunday-sauce, but I did grow up with it.
