I can't imagine Adam not changing things. He usually does this not by challenging but by have great ideas. He did it on Idol, he is doing it on Glee, and he is doing it with Brian and Roger.

I would have agreed with much of what you wrote, if I had not seen Queen featuring Adam Lambert in Las Vegas. In London, Adam was singing Queen arrangements of the setlist Brian and Roger put together. And, although the setlist included WWTLF, a song that they did did not perform with PR, it was pretty much a standard Queen setlist.

For better (IMO) or for worse (probably an originalist view), the Las Vegas show was more Adamized.

Consider that on a short set (for Queen), at a Top 40 hits concert, they included a non-hit that could have been written for Adam to sing, "Who Wants to Live Forever". It could be that Brian and Roger did it because it was the Adam fan request, but when Adam was on stage, that concert was pretty much a whole lot of Adam. There were new vocal improvs all over the place.

I go with what Brian and Roger say...

"He does bring his own approach and he has this amazing range, a gymnastic, beautiful tone and he really fits our material so well," Roger Taylor said of Lambert.

"He has all the elements – he has the passion, he has the humor, a little bit of camp. And when the shots are down, he has the power. It’s incredible," May added.

And when was the last time Queen got reviews like this in the US?  [similar reviews from Rolling Stone and many other reporters.]


Just like I believe people who never saw Freddie live can never truly understand how magnificent he was; people who have not seen Queen featuring Adam Lambert [at that was the Las Vegas billing] just can never truly understand how this collaboration between Brian, Roger and Adam works so well.

Finally, one thing that never existed with the original version of Queen -- Freddie was up front alone. There was a bit of interplay but there was always seemed to be some form of tension on stage. Adam and Brian and Roger all seem to like each other and have fun making music together. I like it. Purists may not. But it does seem to breath some life into this whole adventure.
