Bored so I am playing around with numbers (not my strong point!).
Roughly 100,000 people auditioned for Idol in Season 8. Adam was in the final 2. That makes him in the top .002%.
I cannot find statistics for how many people have auditioned for Idol since it started, but, for fun, let's say the average is just half of Adam's season. That is a total of 600,000 folks. Of all of those folks, Adam is arguably one of the top five most successful, recognizable Idol contestants: Kelly, Carrie, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, and Adam. That puts him in the top .00083%.
Out of the 600,000 folks who have auditioned, two have come back to mentor. That is .0003%.
Out of 600,000 folks who have auditioned, only one has mentored twice. That is .00017%.
For comparison, your odds of being hit by lightning during your lifetime are 1/3000 or .03%.
No matter how I crunch the numbers, Adam has been VERY successful since Idol. He is doing great! He seems very happy. I have multiple opportunities to hear and see him. Hence I am very happy. It's all good.

This guy, Sam Jones, conducts GREAT interviews. If you have the chance to watch the one he just did with Dave Groehl, you'll find his insight into the music business very informative. Interesting perspectives. (I loved the part where he talks about getting out and playing in front of live audiences!) I would love to hear Sam Jones interview Adam. He really knows how to pick a brain.
