The reference to Pippin!! I wonder how they kept a straight face with those lines!?!? I am familiar with the music of Pippin, and I saw it onstage many years ago, but, I don't get the reference to the second act. What's that about and why is it funny? I feel totally uninformed. I will try to translate my interpretation of this joke. I may not be right. 1. Only someone who has seen Pippin many times would show up for the second act and skip the first act. 2. They are referring to "Pippin" the Off Broadway show. The new revival is a cirque-noir version of Pippin. Very "gay". It has circus acrobatics and magical illusions plus all the stuff from the original musical. ETA: Of course the original Broadway Steven Schwartz, Bob Fosse version is very different than community theater version. And if it involved Bob Fosse.....Yes, "magic fingers". 3. Pippin is the stereotypical "gay" musical. Here is an example from the movie "Bring It On" youtu.be/swCJFVyXBNYETA: Perhaps the reference to the second act is also a theater geek joke. The musical was originally only one act, no intermission.

Holst, by "welly" I meant enthusiastic, strong effort - like a kick from a boot ("wellie" might be the real spelling). (Len uses the phrase on Dancing with the Stars a lot.) I love that Kurt gets to be a little crazy in this song instead of longing, loving, and plaintive.

Does anyone know who is playing guitar on the Glee version? Not up to the original Darkness version on hotness (that would explode Gleeks' heads) but really pretty great.
***
I am loving this version of IBIATCL!! And even my resident skeptic approved of it. Then bemoaned the fact that Adam does not do more rock music.
***
Just dreaming but how stupid was Idol when they had Adam, Chris Daughtry and Randy on the show, not to have them do a number together -- they could have added in the contestants like they do on The Voice. But with or without contestants -- Adam and Chris were together for the first time and they would have had a big moment if they did a song together. Adam on lead vocals, Chris on lead guitar and vocals, Randy on bass. Idiots are running Idol. {ETA: This came up in a discussion about how well Adam's voice compliments the guitar in IBIATCL...}

Idol is fucking IDIOTIC to totally blow that opportunity.

Saw the Broadway touring production way back when and was wowed. Also saw a filmed version somewhere. Ben Vereen was sublime in that part. As far as taking in the second act, yeah, the thing is confusing enough if you see the whole thing, so, I guess the crack could mean "we are sooo gay that we have seen any musical so often we can quote it line by line, so we can just take in the second act." Never thought that "Pippin" was particularly gaaaaaaaaayyy. Or was cirque de sole. But, my gaydar doesn't always work. As to Bob Fosse, I love his choreography and staging. That's gay, too? Huh. I lead a sheltered life after all.
