(Adam part)
It was announced this morning (March 6th) that Queen was bringing American Idol alum Adam Lambert on board as its lead singer for a summer trek across North America.
While no one can ever replace the late, great Freddie Mercury, Queen has pushed on by inviting various guest singers on tour and in the studio with them in the past. For its last major world tour from 2005-2009, Brian May and Roger Taylor reunited Queen with Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers as its new frontman. The new lineup even put out an album The Cosmos Rocks in 2008 before parting ways in 2009.
Soon after, Queen wound up playing with Adam Lambert on American Idol that year, which sparked rumors that he would be the group’s next singer. In 2012, Adam even joined Queen for six shows in Europe, and this past fall, they performed together in Las Vega
Now on the heels of the full-fledged Queen + Lambert summer tour announcement, we started wondering about other great classic rock bands that continued to record or tour with a new frontman at the helm. Of course, it’s always difficult being the new guy in an already established band (Rodgers can attest to that), but here are four other bands, like Queen, that carried on their success with replacement lead singers.

Adam Lambert phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about his upcoming tour with Queen!
The American Idol alum announced on Thursday that he’s hitting the road with iconic Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor for a 19-date North American tour this summer, which kicks off at the United Center in Chicago on June 19. It will also mark the first time the trio performs together in locations like New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Dallas, and more.
The “If I Had You” singer reveals he’s “thrilled” to be touring with Queen and admits he’s at a more mature place when it comes to hitting the stage with the legends.
“I was talking to the Queen guys about this today … when I first met them and the first couple times we took the stage together, it was good, it felt good, but just last year at the iHeartRadio Festival it just felt more grounded and evolved and we talked about a lot of reasons, but I feel more grounded.”
And the age gap between the 32-year-old and the rockers isn’t getting in the way of their collaborative force.
“That’s what’s cool about it is,” Adam says. “It doesn’t feel like a huge age gap. They have all these amazing stories and tons of experiences and I try to act like as a sponge around them and listen and learn.”
“We have a lot of fun together [on stage],” he adds, “and there are a lot of impromptu moments, that’s my favorite.”
